This was our first meal on our two week trip to Italy. It was so good we also plan to make it our last meal before we leave! The service was on point and the large restaurant was beautiful and relaxing. We started with the typical, and tasty, suppli antipasto, rice balls stuffed with cheese and sitting on a lovely passata di pomodoro (fresh tomato sauce). Delicious from start to finish I stumbled upon this place on my way black from a night time colosseum tour. I was so happy when I saw that the fall menu (Oct 2018) was featuring mushrooms and truffles, two of my favorite things. I started with a garlic bruschetta and avocado salad and then had a delicious mushroom pizza. I had wanted the Pinot Grigio but they were out so the server suggested a local Lazio white wine that was devine. For dessert I asked the servers favorite and he suggested the cannolo, basically a deconstructed cannoli, and it was so good. Capped of with an espresso, it was an outstanding meal. My fiancé and I were really excited to eat here. We had heard great things from friends so we decided to try it out. We arrived at 7 on the dot and the man at the door said "we can seat you now but we need you to be done by 8:30".... this took me a little by surprise by his remark but we decided to eat here anyway. The restaurant is a very modern, brightly lit restaurant with large dining areas. The tables are grouped VERY close together. We could hear 3 separate conversations going on from our table and I could easily touch each table without getting out of my chair. Not a very intimate restaurant. We started with 2 orders of suppli (each order is 1 piece) and an order of fried zucchini blossoms. I really enjoyed the zucchini blossoms. I wish there had been more cheese in the suppli but it was still okay. Now for the pizza debacle. We had ordered a margherita pizza. They brought out a margherita pizza. We cut two slices and started eating it. The waiter came out to the table, took the pizza away and said "this is not your pizza". My fiancé and I looked at each other very confused. The waiter brought out a different margherita pizza a few minutes later and it was completely inedible. I wish we had taken a picture of it but we were in such shock at the whole experience that we completely forgot. The pizza was a blob of melted cheese with the center being VERY watery. The cheese gave off a lot of water when it was baked and the center was a watery cheesy mess. We barely touched it and just left it in the middle of the table. We had also ordered cacio e pepe pasta. This was just okay. The pasta was very chewy and it wasn't the best. When it came time to pay, a different waiter came to clear the plates and asked us if something was wrong with the pizza. My fiancé pointed out that it was inedible and completely watery and just a mess. She asked if w me wanted a different pizza or something else which was nice but at this point we were over the whole experience and wanted to just leave. We declined the offer and asked for the check. She went back and spoke to our other waiter and a man (either an owner or manager). The man brought out our check another 20 minutes later and didn't say a word to us. Just charged our card (which they had taken off the pizza) and left. The food was excellent. Pizzas were good, the zucchini appetizer was unreal, but by far and away the best thing I tried was the calzone. Holy moly. Order the calzone or don't go. So why 2 stars do you ask? Our waiter was a raging asshole. He showed no interest in us from the start (yes, we ordered drinks and a bottle of wine immediately), and continued to treat us like trash throughout the experience. The worst part? After our food came, he literally never came back. We wanted more drinks shortly after the food arrived. We didn't need special treatment--we just needed the baseline service one would expect from a place that serves "one of the best pizzas in the world." There are other excellent pizza places in Rome. My first impression walking in was a beautiful restaurant with very polite, well trained staff. From the street it does not appear large and when we were seated, they brought us to a large downstairs restaurant with many tables. Downstairs is also where the prosciutto is hand carved for all to see. We asked for a sausage pizza which they don't but the waiter suggested a chorizo pizza. The pizza was good, we thought the chorizo was sliced too thick for a pizza (hard to bite through). Good flavor, not a good topping. We also prefer a wood fired pizza. The pizza was thin crust which we liked. We also ordered the hand sliced Parma prosciutto. It was as expected, great. We saw lots of pasta being served, it looked amazing. A few months ago, while heading to a taco stand in Mexico City, the Uber driver and I came to the conclusion that it is impossible to come up with a way to rank taquerias, because in the end it comes to personal preference. Well, it's kind of similar with pizzerias in Rome. Depending on who you ask, you'll get a different opinion. We all have a favorite one. But when reading articles written by chefs and connoisseurs, Emma was consistently mentioned. Having lived in Rome for a few years now, I tend to classify pizzas in three groups; those that I avoid (frozen pizzas sold as fresh in tourist traps) those that I would normally eat (pretty much the same taste anywhere), and those that I'd go out of my way to eat. Emma falls in this last group. While the size and atmosphere of the place yelled of 'tourist trap', once you try their pizza, you're hooked up. I could try to describe the flavors with words, but I'd fail miserably. Instead do yourself a favor and try it out. read more

We ended up eating at 7:30 and sat downstairs surrounded by tables speaking English and Andy Warhol posters. We shared the zucchini blossoms (without anchovies) after reading a lot of enthusiastic reviews about them. They were OK. Like overrated cheese tempura with some green leafs mixed in. Personally, I wouldn't order them again. For pizza, we ordered the white kale pizza and the mushroom pizza. The pizza was good, but far from the best we had in Italy. The crusts on both were very thin and crispy. We both liked the kale pizza the best. It had crispy kale on top and prosciutto and cheese layered underneath. The mushroom wasn't bad, the tomato sauce was actually delicious and it was loaded with mushrooms, but it was just very simple. read more

The Margherita is excellently prepared and, I dare say, among the best in Rome. We also tried their Prosciutto and Pata Negra Pizza: both memorable and well done. The pastas are also good. We had to try the Zucchini Flowers because of the rave reviews. It was fantastic. This is the thinnest pizza I've ever had. Buffalo Mozzarella Cheese with prosciutto was terrific. Perfectly cooked and oh so tasty. Definitely one of the best we had in Italy. The Pasta was also lovely. The sauce was so simple but tasty. The server suggested the Apple Pie for dessert and it was a hit. A great finish to a terrific meal and evening. I also tried the Gunpowder Green Tea and it was very good. The service was excellent. 4.5 stars. Very busy. Waited about 30 minutes for a table - not complaining, just nice to get on a list. We were able to go have a drink somewhere and come back to be seated promptly. The atmosphere was much more modern, which is a nice change of pace with all of the trattorias and osterias around (not that I didn't like those, I did, just nice to change it up). We ordered two supplí for starters, the spinach and pear salad, and a margherita pizza. The supplí were hot and crisp, with melted cheese in the middle. The spinach and pear salad was well balanced and had a honey drizzle. Not too sweet. The cheese and pear paired well together. The pizza was cooked perfect and very thin. We are visiting November 2021. I love their pizza crust. However, I paid extra for the fresh buffalo pizza. The cheese was not fresh. Hard mozzarella. We encountered this twice on our 2021 visit to this establishment. They also served us olive oil that was not olive oil but vegetable oil. As we left the restaurant we noticed an Italian, local, eating the same dish but with real, fresh buffalo mozzarella. When we ordered the buffalo caprese salad the mozzarella was of an extremely inferior quality. It seems Americans are segregated outside, and served inferior ingredients. Buyer beware. read more
