    The Reuben.

I got a Reuben and home fries. The sandwich had little meat and the home fries were cold. This was after 11 PM but just so you know, they're not making it fresh, that's for sure. I might have known it, as I took it to go and asked how long it would be and the cashier told me "less than 5 minutes". At least I survived!

We wanted a quick breakfast after a long morning of yard work, and the overall experience was second to none. We arrived and was seated quickly, great ambiance with a family friendly feel. Our server was outstanding, and the coffee easily the best we've had. The pork chops were delicious, very well seasoned, and with the eggs, hash browns and toast was a great breakfast addition. The Pancakes were very nice, soaked up the syrup nicely. The grits were made fresh and was definitely worth the wait. Best breakfast we've had in a while.

Great breakfast! Our first time there and would definitely recommend for breakfast. We were in town for a couple of hours and just got done with our appointment and it was still breakfast time. It was recommended to us so we decided to try. The ambience and setting was reminiscent of the old school diner look and feel. Our server was very friendly and our food was delivered expeditiously, which surprised us because they were extremely busy. Gotta try when in Broussard, LA.

About the only option other than Waffle House for a late night hot meal. Been twice and both times it was great! Love the atmosphere and the food was actually really good and not expensive.

Reminiscent of a 1950's style diner down to the neon lights, Mel's is such a fun place to eat! The walls are adorned in Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and James Dean photos and Norman Rockwell paintings. The food is your basic diner fare, nothing fancy but hits the spot especially if you're in the mood for Waffle House-esq grub with a much cooler vibe. I got the western omelet and hash browns and had to try one of the biscuits they claim to be the best in the world. The omelet and hash browns were decent but the biscuit truly was one of the best I've tasted. I had to stop myself from ordering another it was so good. It was very good all on it's own, too. I didn't need any butter or jelly, just savored the delicious light fluffy flavor all on it's own. Do yourself a favor and order at least one biscuit when you go! Service was not great on our visit. The waitress rushed us and forgot several items that our table ordered. I'm hoping that was just a one time thing and would go back to Mel's in spite of that, just hope to not get that same waitress-haha. Take a step back in time and visit Mel's! It's definitely worth trying!

There's no host stand or clear seating system, so the entrance felt chaotic. We weren't sure what to do until a nice local told us to just grab a table. After sitting down, it took about 5 mins for a waitress to stop by with the menus. The menu includes both breakfast and lunch items, but the ordering process is confusing. We were told breakfast orders would be taken at the table and lunch needs to be ordered separately at the cafeteria style counter. My husband went to the counter to order lunch while I stayed behind, waiting for the server to return with drinks and take our breakfast order, she never did. The smothered pork dish looked worse than school cafeteria, and unfortunately tasted like it too. It was overly salty and the pork had a weird taste to it. Since we had already paid for the lunch item upfront and still hadn't been able to place breakfast order, we decided to cut our losses and went to another restaurant. Overall, wasted 35 mins and left frustrated and disappointed, definitely won't come back!

The main issue here is the overall service experience and the food quality. The interior is old school but immediately chaos; there is a Luby's style ready serve food line and tables as well for dine in. We didn't know but apparently you just find a table and sit down, we were standing around waiting to be seated for a bit. Apparently you order lunch plates at this hot food line and then order breakfast via your server at the table. This makes no sense. We waited 35 minutes for staff to take our breakfast order and beverages unsuccessfully, so I went up and ordered a lunch plate of smothered pork and just paid up front. The guy working the ready made food line was also pretty rude and didn't want to be there; great! It was definitely below Treebeard's level and was very salty and not very flavorful. The sauce that they poured on the rice was extremely salty as well. Meh food quality and the absolute chaos of the brunch dining experience made the brunch meal very unenjoyable for our group. We left afterwards and went to another restaurant to eat.

While other restaurants in Abbeville…read morecome and go, the Park has stayed the same and keeps on serving up satisfying selections to locals and visitors alike. The Park has a big breakfast following. They do pancakes and omelettes in addition to their standard breakfast fare. If you get a chance you should certainly try their Sweet Potato Pancakes! A Southern speciality! I am usually in the Park for lunch, and they are excellent for a midday meal. It should be mentioned that if you want to eat breakfast for lunch, they will accommodate you till 2PM! If you want a more traditional lunch, they have a daily Plate Lunch that pairs a hearty entree with rice and two sides. They also have a great selection of sandwiches ranging from a simple BLT to loaded Po-Boys. There's also a Crab Patty Burger for something delicious and different! But that's not all! There's soups, salads, and seafood! There's also a Short Order section of the menu. For the health conscious, there's a selection of grilled seafood served with grilled broccoli! There's also dessert! Usually there's slices of three to four pies, and often bread pudding. This will be a great finish for a homestyle meal. It's a small historic building, that's not too fancy. In fact it is so historic that the restrooms are outside out back. However, this shouldn't deter the visitor looking for a good meal, as we all know that local hole-in-the-walls are worth visiting...
