Friday night one server/host but that is my only critique. The food was far and away above par. The steak was tender and delicious the fried corn was perfect and so was the potatoes The hamburger steak with mushrooms and onions was hot fresh and perfectly seasoned. This place a hidden gem right in the heart of Shelbyville. Small and intimate but well worth the effort to find it and eat here. I am reminded the patients is a virtue, so don't be in a hurry and you will enjoy you meal here. The deserts was a perfect finish to a really good meal. read more

The restaurant name itself is confusing. The sign out front says "Emmy's" while most everything inside says "Urban Plantation". The food is unimpressive and lacks flavor. The most polite way to describe the atmosphere is "eclectic" as the decor is mismatched (not in a nice way). We've visited 4-5 times over the last year. There's a younger man and woman who've been friendly and helpful, the others have made us feel like an inconvenience for coming in to eat. Our visit last week will be our last visit, period. There was an odor in the large, rear dining room that wreaked of dirty mop water, wet material from leaking pipes, or mold. We want to support locally owned businesses, but we'd like quality, tasty food in a clean environment with friendly front of house staff and servers. read more

Great lunch! We didn't know what to expect--the building has definitely a mom-and-pop flavor, and parking is a little confusing. Once the meal arrived, though, we had no further doubts that we'd come to the right place. My chicken salad sandwich was in the most incredible croissant/bun I have ever tasted. The sweet potato fries were perfect. When considering dessert, a nearby diner recommended something called Mikey Pie. It was truly delicious! Well heck! I have forgotten the name of our very sweet server. Sandy maybe? Pretty blue eyes. Anyway! My husband and I ate here over 5 years ago and we must have come on a bad day. It wasn't memorable. We never returned. So yesterday, I decided to try again. I noticed the name had changed out front to "Emmies" and I assumed new owners. After chatting with our server, she explained that only the name had changed. So we ordered lunch with fingers crossed. It was EXCELLENT. We both had the meatloaf, which was so, so good. Really moist. Nice glaze. Our veggies varied. We had cabbage, tomato & cucumber salad, mashed potatoes and pinto beans. All four veggies were really delicious. Everything was definitely homemade. Even a few peels in the potatoes :) We ended this adventure with a brownie & ice cream, served warm with toasted nuts. Yum!! Left stuffed!! In the south, sweet tea is a staple wherever you go, but not everyone gets it right. You know? Their sweet tea is 1960s country tea, just like your mom or grandmother used to make. My family went here after we toured Jack Daniels the other day. We were hungry and found this place to be one of the top choices is Shelbyville. At first, the atmosphere was very laid back. The decor is something that might of been cool in the early 2000's. I was hesitant to eat here because the layout of the restaurant was just weird to me. However, good thing we ate here. This place has fantastic food. All of our plates were tasty and well portioned. It reminds me of mamma's home cooking. Great place! Whenever we are in town, we will be sure to come back. read more

My wife and I are in the area visiting friends and wanted to try a local restaurant, you won't be disappointed! The mushroom Brie soup was sweet and creamy and my wife had the green pepper soup which was delicious but needed just a touch of salt and pepper. The hand made Reuben has red cabbage sauerkraut with the hand seasoned beef on honey bread which was quite good and my wife had the pork chops also seasoned well.The hand cut sweet potato fries are good with the au jous dip. We stopped in on a Monday evening and had to go exploring to find the hostess/server. When we arrived there was one other family in the restaurant and a couple arrived shortly after. The restaurant needs a little music in the background to break up the awkward silence. There are specials listed on a board in the front of the restaurant, but no mention on the menu or table. The food tastes good, but was a little pricey for the portions. I ordered one of the specials, grilled chicken, it was good, slightly dry, but not bad. I can't help but to judge a 'Southern style' restaurant on their sweet tea and theirs was meh at best. Meh also described the food, bland sides without much texture - though the meat was well seasoned and freshly cooked everything else tasted reheated or stale. The broccoli casserole was mushy and tasteless and the sweet potato fries were massive spears of nearly burnt potato. I'm not sure what they were but I couldn't really call them fries. For a nearly empty restaurant the service was rather slow and the price for a lunch special of reheated food was too much in my opinion. Maybe lunch just isn't their thing! read more

When this place first opened it was top notch and had excellent food. It has gone down considerably over the last year. We use to love to eat here but no more. It's really to bad. It's the only place I have ever had corn bread served to me that was made with old meal. The chicken and dumplings was in reality chicken soup with hardly any dumplings. The tea was a joke. We had a lovely dinner here after a family event. We had reservations for 40 which meant we had the entire restaurant to ourselves. There was two servers so service was a tad slow but they were super pleasant and did their best to keep us all happy. I had the ribeye sandwich, tea, macaroni salad and the brownie sundae. This place is amazing. Service was friendly and competent. Food was really good. We had two breakfast options that were outstanding and our daughters had two lunch options. They said their burgers "were the best they'd ever had"! My hubby said the candied bacon was seriously killer!!!! We visit from California often and Shelbyville has limited options for food. This place was really cute! Stopped by when we were driving back to the Boro and would go out of my way to return. Had the plantation salad and brie and mushroom soup, the salad was great, it had grilled veggies like asparagus and squash on it and made for a more interesting salad. The mushrooms brie soup didn't taste anything like brie, but it was a really good cream of mushroom either way so I was happy. Host and server was really nice and friendly without being too much. For our winter visit on a cold windy day we started out our day with a trip here again.we started out with soup.we tried the mushroom brie which was fantastic,we also tried the soup of the day zuppa tuscana a wonderful blend of potatoes kale and Italian sausage.my wife had the apple Walnut salad which was DELICIOUS.i had the Belgium waffle plate with sausage and eggs.thumbs up.our third trip and like always very satisfied. read more
