I'll preface this by saying if it were based only on the food it would be a 5. If you could add decimal points, I would say, 4.4. Pizza is exceptional, crispy, cheesy, good toppings, easily the best currently available in Durham. Wing s were tasty, could have been cooked longer. Burger was tasty as were the waffle fries, but the pizza was by far the best. My reason for a minimal deduction was the service, not very attentive, maybe a little understaffed, but not equivalent to the price paid for the food itself. The refresh of the old El Rodeo space is nice. Add more staff, or raise the service expectation of current staff, and this place would be top notch. Emmy's Pizza: A New Yorker's Review Living in New York for more than 40 years, I had to write an honest review. Hands down, five stars! I've ordered here more than 50 times. The reasons I'm giving it five stars are the following: consistency, customer service, food quality, taste, presentation, and cleanliness. This is my go-to spot if you have an extra few dollars. This knocks Pizza Hut out of the box by a thousand when it comes to quality. Not only do they have options for gluten-free or Detroit-style, but this place also doesn't leave you hungry. Yeah, you might pay a little bit more than Pizza Hut, but it's truly worth it for the fine dining experience. Let's get to about 90% of the menu. Let's start with the Margherita: delicious, crispy crust, fresh mozzarella, and the sweet basil they put on top. Definitely five stars. Let's get to the next square pie pizza. By the way, just to let you know, I've been to over 100 pizza places in North Carolina, having lived here for 12 years, and this is definitely my top along with Anna's Pizza, but we'll talk about that later. I've been dying to find a vodka pizza because the best vodka pizza I found was in New York by a restaurant called Artichoke's Pizza. They make the most delicious vodka pizza in NYC, but back to NC... I wish they put a little bit more vodka sauce on the pizza, but it's still delicious. I haven't found a vodka pizza in North Carolina that comes even close. Next stop, the impeccable Roni pepperoni pizza (apologize if I'm butchering the name). It gives you a surprising spicy kick, but not too overwhelming. I had to buy it five times just for the true experience. It's a legend. They even brought back my Bodega days in Spanish Harlem with the chopped cheese on a pretzel bun. The pretzel bun was so delicious, a little pricey, but like I said, so delicious. Ground chopped cheese, seasoned to perfection with grilled onions and peppers. It's a must-try if you have the pocket. Now last but not least, and if this is a mistake, I apologize... the chicken sandwich. My family loved it, BUT I believe they make it with chicken thighs. I'm a chicken breast fan, so it was mediocre to me, but definitely fresh ingredients. If you don't mind chicken thigh, you're going to love this one. Oh, and lastly, I had a birthday party for somebody and the customer service went out of their way.. if you don't try this place, then your Nuts That's my review. I hope you enjoyed it! read more

Great food and drinks! My daughter and I sat at the bar and shared the Brussels sprouts salad, the Le Big Matt burger and a small pizza. All were fantastic and we stuffed ourselves and still had leftovers. The very best part of the night was our bartender/server Ivy! Despite arriving later in the evening and we were the last to leave, she was kind, helpful, enthusiastic and clearly loves her job! IVY IS THE BEST! After waiting 20 minutes after we were sat at our table, my husband had to go up to the host and ask if anyone would be able to take our drink order. Once our waiter greeted us, took our order, and gave us our drinks, he did not come to our table again until our pizza came out around 45 minutes later (although we could see him walking around/folding pizza boxes in the back). We then ordered another drink but he didn't bring it over until we finished our food. I thought it was just our waiter, but we rarely saw the staff check in with any table and heard people around us asking where their waiters were and how long the food would be. Emmy Squared is a new Detroit-style pizza spot that opened in Brightleaf Square! When we arrived at around 6PM on a Friday, we were told that we would have to wait 2 hours for a table because we didn't have a reservation. However, after a few minutes the hostess kindly offered us a spot at the bar. We started our meal with the Zia Fries, which were delicious! They were smothered in queso and ranch and topped with some bacon and scallions. For our pizzas we ordered the Big Hawaiian and Big Ang. Both came out hot and had a nice crunch! The Hawaiian was balanced and we liked the chile glaze that was drizzled on top. The Big Ang was quite cheesy and also had a nice tangy bite from the banana peppers. Two regular pizzas and the fries were more than enough to feed our party of 3 and send us home with leftovers. Overall, we enjoyed the food, but one thing to note was that for the entire 1.5 hours we were there, the restaurant was at most half-full. We're not sure if the supposed 2 hour wait was due to staffing or if there was a huge party that never showed up, but it was minorly inconvenient to sit as a group of 3 at the bar when we were told that the tables next to us were reserved yet empty the entire meal. read more
