10/10 recommend. I ordered my pizza by calling. The process was very smooth and I was informed it would take about 25 minutes which was accurate. Pizza was delicious and loved the crust! The owner and his wife were extremely friendly. The ambiance was nice and aesthetic. This is my new go to pizza spot!

This place was absolutely delicious!!! I'm still thinking of how good their coal fired pizza is. The owner is such a nice guy as well!

Best pizza in all of NC. Maybe the entire Eastcoast. No notes. Pizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzza

My son suggested we try Societa while visiting in Durham. Offering during that evening was pizza on the house, never expected this! Please.. experience the ambiance, the most enjoyable ownership and chefs, but of course the pizza. We had a Sausage and Margherita, crust cooked to perfection, sauce had a sweetness, hint of spice the tomato so flavorful..really..just go and enjoy. I cant wait to go back!

Roberta pizza, ortalena pizza and giordiano salad with lemon vinaigrette

We are visiting from out of town and my daughter wanted pizza last night. The food here was amazing! We got 2 pizzas and a salad. It was enough food that we even had leftovers for the next day. The owner was so nice and friendly! My daughter loved the lemon vinaigrette so much that he offered her some to take home. Such a cute place too!!

I've been back weekly since they've opened. Some of the best coal fired pizza in the area. The crust has the perfect bite.

Overall, I cannot speak highly enough of the service. I always feel anxious asking for vegan versions at restaurants which don't have anything vegan on the menu, but I felt very at ease here. The staff was extremely professional. They brought me a separate salad, which was some kind of pepper / oil / radish situation. The main dish was a basil & eggplant pasta with red sauce. The noodles themselves were delicious, and I loved the basil & eggplant. I did feel that the sauce was perhaps a bit bland / undersalted, but I suspect that was because of the vegan accommodations. I think the salad suffered for similar reasons. I think they could improve their menu by designing an intentionally vegan main dish, particularly one that was more well-balanced to make up for the lack of cheese (everything else had cheese in it, so I'm assuming that was the problem with my dish). Overall, however, I was very impressed with the service and it was a very positive experience. I appreciate the lengths to which they went to accommodate me.

Because they state that tables of 2 will only be allowed the table for 90 minutes, we didn't think timing would be an issue, but indicated it just in case. The restaurant wasn't busy, assuming since we were on the earlier side of a weeknight. However, despite all this, we still barely made it to our show. The restaurant is cozy and moody and smells wonderful. I love being able to see the kitchen from the tables. However, service was a little off-putting. Our waitress was cordial, but she didn't tell us about the specials until after we asked and even then, only stated the name of the dish--no description. This wouldn't have been as off-putting except that she was energetic and forthcoming about the drink and food specials for the table next to us, which was a larger party. It honestly made us feel like there was a different attitude based on perceived tip. Pacing of our food was a little awkward. We ordered the burrata bruschetta and the golden beets and mozzarella salad to start and they were brought out separately--the salad only after we had finished the burrata. Both dishes were good, and the real shining star was the mozzarella under the salad. After we finished the salad, our waitress cleared our plates and then said, "ok now I'll put the entrees in." Again, since we had a schedule to adhere to, we were a little perplexed. We sat with nothing on the table for about 10 minutes, which I think would have been better filled with food or something to munch on. My friend got the cacio e pepe, which was divine, and I got the tagliatelle al ragu, which was good and very filling. Because of the timing, we didn't get to order dessert, which was a bummer. In fact, our waitress didn't even ask if we were interested--just dropped the check off. There are a few other things I'd like to try on the menu, so I'll probably be back, but this wasn't the stellar experience that I'm used to from Matt Kelly restaurants.

The restaurant sits on Franklin Street, right in the heart of Chapel Hill near UNC. It's a lively, walkable area filled with shops and restaurants. Parking can be a little tricky--we circled a few blocks before finding a gravel lot nearby (free after 6 p.m. and all day Sunday). Inside, the place had an old-school, authentic feel. The staff spoke Italian, which added to the vibe, and the red curved booths reminded me of classic pizza joints from my childhood. The menu is posted on the wall behind the counter, and you order before sitting down. We also noticed their most recent health score was a 99, which was reassuring. My wife ordered the chef's salad, and I went with the meat stromboli. Her salad was fresh, colorful, and much better than the iceberg lettuce you often get. She enjoyed it so much that she finished before my stromboli was ready. When mine came out, it was served on a pizza pan with a side of sauce--it looked and tasted great. It was also clear they do a strong takeout business, with lots of people picking up orders and the phone constantly ringing. Overall, the food was solid, the atmosphere memorable, and it felt like a local institution that's earned its recognition. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Chapel Hill.

The vibes are intimate and cozy, and I'm so glad I made a reservation because even on a Tuesday night, the whole place was full, and people kept coming throughout the evening. There's a few smaller tables and a bar overlooking an open kitchen. Bonus vibes points for the fresh flowers on the tables. The menu is Italian with a small, focused menu. We started with the focaccia bread, and wow, it was pillowy and melt in your mouth good. The butter that accompanies it was a warm hug that brought the whole thing together. Otherwise, we ordered a few other dishes. The waitress was really kind and helped us ensure that everything we got was vegetarian. We ordered the linguini vegetarian, rigatoni, and the gnocchi. All were very flavorful and rich tasting.

We shared the caramel bread pudding with ice cream and the olive oil cake with citrus crème anglaise. The olive oil cake is a must order. Because of the restaurant's small size, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation if you plan to dine in.
