I wanted to clear that up before someone gets gaslit into living here based on the owner's response to my experience. The cost of utilities I was charged here have still been the highest I've paid in utilities in all of the apartments I have lived in to date. I frequently called to make sure they weren't reading the wrong meter. We had moved out a month early and the utility bill remained as high as months when we did live a full month there. Also, I feel the way trash and sewer is divided amongst tenants is unfair. It was explained to me that trash and sewer was split equally amongst all of the units, this did not differ between one bedroom units and three bedroom units. So unfortunately if you are a two bedroom household you're still getting charged the same amount of trash as a family of four. I understand this is policy but I just want to warn others that their utilities will run high. As far as the fees I mentioned that are impossible to get out of. Although the fees are small the cost range depending on payment type, (ACH, Credit Card, Check) and all of them had a fee. I am personally one to try and avoid unnecessary fees and had emailed a leasing manger at the time of living there who told me that all of their payment options had fees. So if there was a free option, the leasing manager neglected to tell me and it was not an option in the booklet they provided at move in on how to pay rent. I was not given the option to walk the apartment before signing our lease but I understand how I should've asked. It should be policy to walk the unit before signing so future residents don't need to ask. My move in inspection form included many issues I had with the apartment including the scuffs, missing items, dents, etc. We did the inspection immediately upon move in. It wasn't until a week later when we fully moved that we found tampons behind the drawers of the bathroom cabinet, tampons and socks under and around the washer/dryer, bugs and crumbs on the top of the cabinets and in drawers. For the toilet concerns, I didn't know Reno was known for hard water which contributes to the mold growing in the toilet. I have never had a mold issue before or after moving into the apartment. I won't be blaming the hard water. I had to bleach clean the toilet at the end of every week to keep it from taking over the toilet. I understand you having your staffs back and admire that but I did indeed get yelled at by (I believe Michelle) when requesting a maintenance order for the black mold growing in my toilet. When I explained to her that I attempted to clean it with bleach but it continued to grow back she yelled at me that I should have never tried to fix the issue without consulting management first. Maybe we interpreted the conversation differently? After the conversation I stopped bleaching the toilet only for the maintenance guy to tell me that it was definitely black mold and to buy bleach tablets to fix it. What's the point in discussing the concerns if you're just going to lie and deny them? At the end of the day I would not recommend these apartments. The staff is not friendly and they do not care about your safety. Again, there are plenty friendlier, affordable, and cleanly apartments near UNR. Don't let these people take advantage of you or lie to you!

Even the trash situation is kept in check (one of the things I make note of at any place I toured). Has a nice year round outdoor pool and hot tub. Package lockers are included in the price. For the fitness minded there are 3 rooms to work out in (spin room, yoga room, weight/cardio room) Gated community that actually closes the gates after office hours. Naturally, over the past 6 months, I have had to deal with the most obnoxious and excessive noise from newly moved in neighbors that I've ever experienced. Screaming children, yelling parents.. I have contacted both security and management on numerous occasions (10+ at this point over months) and they have done nothing to resolve the continued issue but send "lease violations." Now, they are interfering with the validity of my lease agreement to have a reasonably peaceful time living at The Alexander. It is a shame that management has not escalated this situation in any manner as I will be seeking legal counsel.. the fact that you pay $1600/mo to listen to shrieking children and disrespectful and disruptive adults on and off throughout the day when you are trying to work is absolutely unacceptable. Management has gone downhill and sending "please be quiet" general emails DOES NOTHING. All of my other neighbors manage to come home and leave quietly but the ones causing disruption and annoyance all day get to stay and ruin it for everyone else...

In addition I always feel safe even when walking my dog late at nights alone. The ladies in the office, Shawna Julissa and Maggie are always welcoming and ready with a smile - so much so that my little granddaughter LOVES to visit the office to just say 'hi' or grab one of the wonderful cookies they make every morning. There are a lot of elderly people that live here and I just see everyone (mostly) around them caring for and looking out for them including management and maintenance. Speaking of Maintenance - you could not find a better crew anywhere. I've had a couple of things I could not fix that turned to be crazy easy to fix but they are right there to help and never make you feel like you are putting them out. As a matter of fact anytime ANYTHING breaks or won't work (even like something as simple as a broken toy) my granddaughter says immediately "call Mr. Matt he can fix it". LOL. To be honest, is parking sometimes a challenge if you have more than one car, well yes it can be but people need to remember this is an apartment complex and not houses with driveways. While I am not naturally a complainer (there are some of those of course that want to complain about everything), I have found that when I do need to lodge a complaint or a concern the staff in the office (now) handle it with concern and professionalism and don't blow you off. Now can they fix every possible thing that humans do (remembering this is an apartment complex), no. But they do respect and do their best to maintain the best living conditions for every tenant. This is not just any old apartment complex, this is OUR Sharlands - it's a community of neighbors, management and maintenance that cares and looks out for each other and that is something hard to find. She patiently answered my one million and ten questions throughout the move-in process, and she's continued to be incredibly helpful anytime I call with some random question or need something, including today, when I managed to leave without my key and lock myself out of the apartment. Overall, the complex is nice, the units are well maintained, and we've been really happy with ours. They also do a good job of bringing little extras to the community, like having food trucks come by pretty regularly, which is always a nice perk. Depending on where your building is located, traffic noise from Arrowcreek Parkway can definitely vary (I genuinely don't understand why people drive so fast down that road), but otherwise we really like the location. My only real complaint has nothing to do with management and everything to do with residents who don't clean up after their pets. Management and maintenance seem to do their best to stay on top of it -- bless the maintenance team -- but at some point, people need to take some pride in where they live and clean up after their own animals. Aside from that, we've had a really positive experience here and would absolutely recommend Serra Vista to anyone looking for an apartment in the area.

While we continued to have noise issues with our downstairs neighbor and the units weren't quite as sound proof as one may like - especially in the early phases - it stays pretty quiet. I always felt incredibly safe in this complex and I think the code system for the gate works well - though I wish the codes could work on all 4 gates. The facilities are well kept and go largely underutilized. We had a few run ins especially when it came time to renew our lease with confusion in the front office but overall - this place is great. They treated like a 55 and over communities so heaven forbid you have children because they do not like having kids here they say that they like dogs, but they don't. I frequently put my trash out and they will consistently ignore my trash and not pick it up. I consistently get notes and complaints on the door. This place completely ruined my rental history now that I'm trying to find a different place to move, they have completely destroyed. My credibility as a renter and all I have done is done my best to be a good tenant and keep to ourselves. I've always paid rent on time. I've always paid utilities on time. I've always picked up my dog poop I've always been my very best to be cordial to other people but apparently when you're a single mom who has a five-year-old and a three-year-old with severe ADHD and on the spectrum, you will absolutely be hated in this Little what they wanna call community. My ex was brutally beaten and robbed of all his rent money. We were unable to pay it. We couldn't find any charitable organizations that would help because they claimed he made too much. We were forced into an eviction. We notified the landlord ahead of time. And left as soon as the notice was on the door. They refused to work with us, despite the circumstances. On top of this. We are both 86ed from the property for literally nothing. Because of an eviction tied to being beaten and robbed. It could be argued this was a discriminatory behavior on their end. My debt for this property was given to my ex in the divorce. They still refused to let me on property to visit friends there. I can understand 86 for bad behavior. But there was none of that. Bottom line. Don't rent from here. They are compassionless and enjoy penalizing people. Many believe this place is a scheme to evict and move in new people constantly.
