Tucked away on Lincoln Rd. just off Nostrand, it's not a place you would notice just walking by, but it's just a short walk from the Sterling St. stop on the 2/5. It's got a great interior and modern decor, if you care about such things, and does delivery (including a rewards program for frequent customers). As a vegetarian, I have really enjoyed all the empanadas I've tried so far, particularly the broccoli/mozzarella and spinach/ricotta. The Pink and Avocado sauces also have a nice garlicky zest. The plantain/cheese was the only one that didn't wow me, but the guava/cheese dessert empanada was also great. Be sure to buy 4 or 5 of these -- they're small, but fortunately not too expensive ($2 for veggie, $3 for meat/special empanadas). read more

This place has a nice variety of empanada flavors similar to another place I love in Queens called mama's empanadas. I had the Americana (cheeseburger) while my boyfriend had the Pastelon (ground beef, sweet plantain and cheese). He's a picky eater but ate it all so that's a plus. Went here last Saturday during their opening weekend and caught the live music in the afternoon, which was awesome! The food is great, I tried the shrimp and guava empanadas and really loved them both! Also tried the mango smoothie and it's super smooth and yummy! My favorite was the avocado sauce with the shrimp empanada. But they told me to put the hot sauce onto the guava empanada, and that REALLY changed the game. I got attracted to the overall aesthetics. This is a family place. From a Christmas tree to the character from the Nightmare before Christmas smiling at guests upon arrival, I would say this is great place for a casual chat. Exposed brick wall and wood ceilings make this establishment extremely comfortable. Thankfully, their restroom is being renovated, but it still may take a while. Staff was great. I did a pick up order here for my first time. Food was ready upon arrival. I was greeted by friendly service as well which is a plus. Everything looked clean and organized. I ordered the ropa, spinach, platenos and cheeseburger empanada. My favorites were the platenos and spinach and ricotta one. Get their avocado sauce on the side, it adds a nice flavor. I ordered through Grubhub. I was looking for something different and I found these amazing empanadas. Bacalao, shrimp, spinach and cheese, apple and guava and cheese, and the others I ordered were all delicious. Also ordered the Lime drink with fruit. Excellent! I was so excited to try this place out because I am a fan of Empanada Mama in the city . However I was instantly let down because they did not have any avocado sauce. This place is so great! My boyfriend and I went here for a casual dinner and tried eight different flavors. All of them were perfectly fried and fresh with tender fillings. Our favorites were the chicken with bacon and the Cuban. I'm sorry but the food nasty af lol I ordered a Pastelon, Chicken, & Americana empanadas. The chicken one isn't bad but the chicken got a weird taste, the one with the plantain and beef and cheese was NASTY AF I don't know who idea was that for that weird combo I threw that up after one chew it taste like dog food ( don't ask me how I know what dog food taste like) and people actually said it was good and I was being hopeful. The Americana one reminded me of a chopped cheese. It ain't bad but it ain't that good either. So I don't know how these people giving 5 stars reviews yall weird. Nowadays, it seems that every hip eating establishment that opens in rapidly gentrifying NYC is the brainchild of a transplant to our town. Empanada City defies that trend. The families that created this gem have strong roots here and have built something from the ground up that they can be truly proud of. Let me say that I'm a native New Yorker, but my wife is originally from Brazil. She and I enjoy eating empanadas, but she is without a doubt the empanada expert in our family. According to my wife, the empanadas at Empanada City are, hands down, the absolute very best she has ever eaten. I wholeheartedly agree! The empanadas are prepared fresh with every order. That, alone, is unique. They are never greasy, the fillings are generous and the prices are extremely reasonable - $2 each for most empanadas. While my wife tends to order either chicken or shrimp, I am (trying to be) a vegetarian, and Empanada City has plenty of options. My favorites are broccoli + cheese, spinach + ricotta, plantain + cheese and guava + cheese. The mixed vegetable empanada is a great choice for all who would like to avoid both meat and cheese. I should add that the smoothies are very delicious and complement the empanadas perfectly. My husband and I traveled all the way here after I gave birth to try these empanadas based on the lovely yelp reviews. It was a long wait and when asked about the wait my husband was told that they have a lot of online orders, understandable but I don't understand why face to face customers have to suffer for that...but I digress. Our order came up to $50 and I was shocked so i went to check and it turns out my husband accidentally ordered the signature chicken with bacon instead of the plain chicken. There's a price difference in these two items. I pointed out to the cashier who got the manager or supervisor and he proceeded to tell me to "be careful next time when placing my order." I was so upset as a customer who spent about $50 and traveled to this place to be ridiculed by the manager in front of the other customers over a mistake in ordering an item. Long story short I will never be back here. If it wasn't so emotional I would've requested they refund my entire order. Food wise the empanadas were okay I loved the mango smoothie but the service from the manager will keep me away from this place...caesars empanadas is a food truck but empanadas taste just about the same and their service is way better. The manager responded but still doesn't seem to get that no customer wants to be told to be careful on their order next time and spoken to as a child. As a former food services manager myself I know that we always want to control inventory but customer service comes first and so does respect. I would never ever return to this place and if you are human and make mistakes ordering items you might not want to come here either or you'll be told to be careful when ordering items. Okay so I got there 10 mins before they closed bc I'm an indecisive idiot lol but they were very kind especially the gentleman that took my order. I ordered the pastelon, Americana, ground beef, Cuban and guava and cheese. They were amazing but my fav had to be the Americana. They all had different distinct taste personalities and the the their sauces (heat,pink, and avocado) paired with them like the Americana went well with pink, pastelon went well with heat and avocado and the Cuban went well with all! Get the sauces! And the empanadas was labeled with initials on the side so u won't take the wrong one in a group setting. Really good a little pricy but worth it! Don't get the drinks I got the lemonade it was too much sour and sugar (if that's a thing) just get water or soda bc the empanadas is great with that in my opinion. I had the chicken and tomato empanada in addition to the meat and plantain empanada. Both were extremely delicious. I regretted not getting a third empanada to try. The place is very cute inside and service was exactly on point. Minus one star because I also had a strawberry banana smoothie that wasn't too good. It tasted like they used a high fructose corn syrup strawberry juice and blended that with ice instead of using actual strawberries. I've always walked/drove by this place wanting to stop by one day. Let me just say I'm thankful I did this evening!! The decor is very nice and the empanadas were omg. I came with my daughter and we ordered the chicken, shrimp, Cuban and grave/cheese empanadas. To start off the guava and cheese was just as good as it expected. Love love love!
