Truly some of the best empanadas you can eat. This past weekend was my second time running into Empanada Papa in the wild. This time, they had a stand up at Strong Rope Brewery in Red Hook, and it's a lifesaving addition over there. The lovely folks behind the stand are warm, welcoming, and ready to give you what you need. And what you need is carnitas. And beef and cheese. And surprisingly, the INCREDIBLE spinach and cheese. This last one kind of stole the show, and I'm almost always a meaty Petey. Basically, pair any empanada with some of their pineapple habanero sauce and you have a serious flavor bomb on your hands. Wash it down with some beer in a giant open, airy room? Perfection. My only concern is that Empanada Papa may have broken up with Empanada Mama? But as New Yorkers, we should just mind our own business, so I'm going to just keep it moving. read more

Never heard of it or anything, but I was like "hey, empanadas sound good right now." So I ordered two chicken and one beef. The pack your cute little empanadas with meat so it's not all just bread when you bite into it. If I could describe their "sauce" it'd be tangy and sweet. The cheese filling had a unique flavor and made you want more. The texture of the shell was just right, not too hard and not too chewy. We've been pretty loyal customers to Empanada Mama for quite some time, but we were absolutely blown away by the empanadas here.
