I've been ordering from here since they've opened and have nothing bad to say about them or their service or food. If you're expecting Taco Bell service and Taco Bell prices, then go to Taco Bell. I have been to this location before but never reviewed. I do believe some things changed during that time. I do like that they sell their hot sauce now which is great because it's awesome! My favorite empanada is the kale, sweet plaintain, and cheese one! They got it just right. The beef one was good but unfortunately the insides where a bit cold. The guava and cheese is stuffed fully however the ratio is off and the guava was very solid (not melted) at all. Although the empanadas are good (not amazing), they are a bit overpriced. Their staff isn't totally knowledgeable about their options either. As the new waitress had to ask another worker about the prices of the empanadas as all of them are not included in the 3/$12. The restaurant was also very cold inside (no heat). Not sure if it was just an off day for them but the service was sub par. read more

Yumm. I was really looking forward to eating here since I had sampled some at Wightman Farms. I was not disappointed! The selection is pretty good. I had 2 Mexican chorizo empanadas with black beans and corn....delicious and once I added the hot sauce (heaven). I also ordered a tres leche cake that looked amazing...some of the other sides to select from were tostones con ajo, rice and yucca fries. The atmosphere was so inviting, they have a vintage coca cola fridge that I envy. Price is more than other empanada places I have been to but sooo worth. There is parking however the parking is small. On the plus side they are signed up with door dash delivery so it makes it so easy for me to enjoy the deliciousness more often!!! read more

I so want to give Empanada Lady 5 stars. The customer service and delivery is great, and the flavor selections have a nice variety of meat and veggie options. We were excited to try them. The Kale, Plaintain and cheese was delish. But both the beef and chicken empanadas were too, too salty for me and my family. I picked up a few empanadas at the Nutley Farmers Market, since I kept hearing about the Empanada Lady. It was exciting to see they had a stand there. My empanada was hot, gooey, had great taste and the disc was very flaky. This is as far as I can get. These are not my favorite. And even though they are stuffed with filling, the one that I had gave me these weird stomach cramps where I was literally doubled over in pain. This happened within minutes of eating my pizza empanada. I happened to buy 3 different frozen ones to take home and the people that these were served to, had the same result. Not sure if it was just a bad day or a bad batch of empanadas but I won't be going back for a second tasting. I give it 3 stars because I believe they have a decent product. By far empanada lady is my fave. I love their selections. Being a vegetarian latina I can usually only order cheese empanadas in most places. But here, their vegetarian selection is much better and more with the times (people want to eat healthier). Only down side is last 2 times seems like either they were reheated or the oil was old as they looked too dark almost burnt. Empanadas should have a golden look. That double-frying meant that the empanadas held up to being re-heated (still a little crispy, I'm definitely impressed). You'll have to wait a bit as every order is fried to order, but it's worth the wait. Mexican Chorizo w/Corn, Black Beans & Queso Fresco - very flavorful, a little spicy, was a little dry, would have liked a little more queso fresco in this as the beans absorbed all the moisture. Classic Guava & Cream Cheese - very rich, as candied guava was used. Personally I prefer my guava a little more tart, but this was still enjoyable, I'm happy I shared this as there's no way I could have eaten a whole one Loaded Potato w/Bacon, Corn, Cheddar Cheese & Cream Cheese - This? this I could eat every day! Damn tasty empanadas! Great selection, great interior, and great people make this place a winner. I'm pretty certain it was Cynthia Soto, the owner, who took my order on Friday, and was more than helpful in letting me know about the specials, the food on display, and what experimental empanada flavors were in the works. I ordered the 3 for $12 and had Chorizo, Beef, and a guava cream cheese dessert empanada. They were all fried rather than baked like some places and the flavors were intense. I loved the spicy-ness of the chorizo and and guava cream cheese was a perfect end to my lunch. All of them were perfectly crisp too, def not overly dry. Worth it to mention the decor inside all has to do with a Caribbean excursion and really feels like Havana or something. The tables are even painted to look like runways. Another thing that I liked, the sauce that is given with the empanadas. Usually empanada places serve green chimichurri sauce, or regular hot sauce, while Empanada Lady gives what I can only assume is a mix of both.. ? All I know is I would drink it like a beverage if that was possible, and would certainly buy a jar of it if they decide to bottle and sell it. Had been wanting to try this place for a while and finally stopped in for some empanadas to go. We ordered the chicken & potato, chipotle chicken & cheddar, loaded potato and banana nutella. Each one is priced differently from $4.50-$5.25. They were ready pretty quickly and were still hot when we got home. We couldn't tell which was which, so we started biting into them. They were all super delicious! The chicken & potato was stuffed with filling and was made even better with the sauce they included. The loaded potato was great and the chipotle chicken & cheddar was cheesy and had a nice little kick to it. We ended on the banana nutella empanada, which was amazing and dripping with nutella. I really liked how the empanadas were not overly greasy, but still had a nice crunch to them. I also really like how they close the empanadas because it doesn't leave too much of a crust - my grandmother would use a fork to close hers and I was never a fan of the extra fried dough. The only minor suggestion I have is to pack dessert empanadas separate from savory ones - the nutella leaked out and got on the other empanadas, kind of changing the taste of them. Great food! Loved the empanadas! The cheese one was so great and cheesy! Service was fantastic! I will definitely return! My only complaint, and it is a very tiny one, is the Cuban sandwich. It was real delicious and the meats, cheese, pickles, and mustard were so good! However, the bread was a bit thick. I prefer a little less bread for my sandwiches, but that's just me. I really wanted to love this place. I went for take out on a Sunday afternoon and got three empanadas. I ordered the buffalo chicken with gorgonzola, the loaded potato, and the 3 cheese empanada. I'm not really sure what happen but the buffalo chicken empanada was literally just shredded chicken...no buffalo sauce...no gorgonzola. The cheese empanada was SO stuffed with cheese it was essentially inedible. The loaded potato was the best of the three but still not my cup of tea.
