My husband and I came to Mr. Esquisito for a Friday night date around 7:00 p.m. We didn't need a reservation, which was nice. The restaurant is small, seating only about 25-30 people, creating an intimate atmosphere. However, the lighting is so dim that I had to take a second look just to read the menu. I'll start with the positive: our waiter was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind. My only criticism was that he couldn't really recommend a standout dish when we asked what the restaurant was known for. For appetizers, I ordered the octopus. Unfortunately, it was inconsistent. Half was perfectly tender, while the other half was so tough it was difficult to chew. It was served over an ajillo sauce that was good, but not enough to save the dish. My husband ordered empanadas. The steak filling was much better than the chicken. He asked if he could order one steak, one shrimp, and one chicken, but was told they don't allow mixing flavors. For my entrée, I ordered the ribeye with white rice and beans and added a lobster tail with butter sauce. The ribeye itself was cooked well, but the sides were disappointing. The beans had a strange flavor, and the rice was mushy and completely lacked seasoning. The lobster tail was fine, but nothing special. The ribeye was $58, and adding the lobster tail brought the plate to $72. At that price point, I expected an exceptional meal, not one where the sides were the weakest part of the plate. My husband ordered the skirt steak with peppers, French fries, and maduros. His steak was good, but we both agreed the side options felt like an odd combination. The menu could definitely use some more thoughtful pairings. We boxed up our leftovers, but unfortunately the food didn't even reheat well the next day. Our bill came to $233 for two people. On top of that, gratuity was automatically added, and there was a $10 fee for paying with a debit card. That was an unpleasant surprise and made an already expensive meal feel even more overpriced. For over $200, I expect to leave saying, "I can't wait to come back." Instead, I left feeling like I had paid Manhattan prices for a very average meal. A lot of items were listed as "MP" (market price), so we could not even know what the dishes cost until after we got them (???) The food took about an hour to come out. At the end, they even charged us for an extra dish we didn't order, and we had to catch it ourselves. Overall, between the slow service, poor communication, and billing issues, I wouldn't come back. Was really excited to try this restaurant due to the hype, but reality didn't quite match. Nestled in a busy street you'll have to find parking on adjacent side streets. The inside of the restaurant is small, but they were able to accommodate 7 hungry men in the back which was pleasant. It's a BYO spot so we brought in several wine bottles and they were kind enough to bring us glasses and a wine opener. We went with the garlic wings and tostone steak guacamole sliders. The appetizers were the best part. Our mains were a Tomahawk Steak, Fried red snapper, and a skirt steak. The churrasco was mediocre best, didn't come out Medium Rare which is how we ordered it and thr taste just wasn't quite there. We ordered a variety of sides since each dish comes with 2 options. Some of our sides included rice, beans, tostones, Maduros, and French fries. Again, the sides were also better than the meat. The fried fish however was fantastic! Very crunchy consistency from the batter, reminded me of chicarrones. For dessert I ordered the pistachio tart which seemed like it was store bought and not homemade. It was my cousins birthday and she ordered the chuleta that comes hanging from the bone with mofogo on the side smothered in a white garlic sauce. We got two of those actually. A wonderful experience! We heard great reviews and decided to come check it out. There is plenty of metered parking spots. We were greeted by william and he was our server , he was amazing! Needless to say it was Delectable The appetizer was so good ( tostones were freshly made, the chicharrón was crisp and the repollo with their special sauce was the topping of this ). Now on to the main dish. Have you ever had a Churrasco that didn't need any Chimichurri sauce, well you've come to the right place. It was cooked to perfection & very well seasoned. The yellow rice and maduros were again perfect. But to end this delicious meal, the flan was the perfect choice. Perfectly balanced and so creamy. Food that is truly Exquisite! Went for dinner on a Sunday and they were crowded. Luckily we got a table fairly quickly but there was a constant influx of diners. They do not take reservations. Had dinner for 4 here and really enjoyed the meal. Restaurant is byob for beer and wine. For appetizers we had fried calamari, which had a seasoned batter and came with a style of a red tomato sauce. Calamari was cooked perfectly, with a nice crispy exterior and a very tender interior. The food is very Instagrammable and I was worried that it would be all show no substance, but that was not the case. It is very flavorful! We ordered 4 dinners, chicken mofongo with a garlic sauce, paella, Bistec encebollado (steak and onions), and the real show stopper, Langosta Chaufa. If you order the chaufa and the paella plan extra time for them to make the order. The only down side to our visit was there a fairly significant wait for our food, and that was very likely because of the time necessary to make the paella and chaufa. The garlic sauce on the mofongo was amazing, we asked for extra to add to the mofongo and to dip some of the seafood in. Steak with onions was tender (this is a thin sliced well done meat so getting it tender was great). Prices also seemed reasonable for what you got. The chaufa was delicious and had plenty of seafood. The paella also had a good amount of seafood. I was happy with the mofongo, the sauce helped keep it hydrated. Would go back, and try other menu items. My second issue is that a lot of the menu is listed as MP (market price) so I don't love that, but considering the amount of food and seafood it is completely understandable. read more

This is our second time here and that is why we are so surprised with the service we received. We took my elderly parents for an early dinner at around 4 pm. Thought we would have a cute night out with the parents. Server Edwin was nice, but the lady manager in the back, not so much. Edwin confessed that there were two chefs out causing our dinner to come out late. We see patrons entering, ordering, eating and leaving...yet we are still waiting. Edwin offers a ceviche, I don't eat fish, we take it because my father (88 years old) was getting very loopy. Edwin confessed that our order had been pushed to the end of the cue and he would comp a meal. A meal! Amazing. Thank you. An hour and a half later we receive our food. No problem. However, when it's time to pay, nothing aside from the avocado and maybe a coffee was comped. It's 7 pm, we are just getting my elderly parents home after spending 3 hours in a place that made us feel extremely uncomfortable. No "we are sorry" from the manager. Which she did mention to my father that if the food tasted good after the long wait. She said that!!!!
