I was looking for a new mechanic in the neighborhood and found Val and Alex via a Yelp search. They had a few 5 Star reviews so I'd figure I'd give them a try. I was having issues with my car's AC and most places wouldn't help me. Thankfully they were able to solve the problem easily at a reasonable price. Since then I've taken my car back for a full inspection and they were very good about explaining everything to me and being honest on what was really important to fix and what wasn't. After checking around town for the best price for a new radiator for our 2001 Volvo XC 70, I decided to take a chance on Val at Empire Auto Repair whose shop is only a stone's throw from our house. Even though he quoted me the best price, I was skeptical because I had no idea if he knew what he was doing. Well, all my skepticism vanished when I picked up my car. Not only did he repair my radiator for less than I would have paid anywhere else but he gave the car a thorough inspection and fixed a few little things free of charge in the process. I have to share this amazing story that happened to me yesterday. Shortly after leaving church my car began to overheat, not knowing anything about what to do (cause I only know how to pump gas and drive my car) I called a friend. She told me to pull over and check the water. I had no idea where the water goes !! I pulled into a gas station and asked the attendant if there was anyone at the shop next door today. He said he was sorry but it was closed today and nobody to help me. I asked someone else pumping gas to show me where I would check the water on my car. He began to check and wasn't sure. I still had my friend on the phone, I had just finished telling her that I was already feeling frustrated and ready to lose it when out of nowhere a man shows up (Val from Empire Auto Repair) and starts looking at my car. The gas attendant yelled out saying that was the mechanic from the shop, it's his day off, and didn't know why he was here! He immediately opened the shop, pulled my car in, fixed the broken cap and tube to the water pump thing, drove to another shop and back to get me the part, came back, finished the work, and didn't charge me!!! How amazing is that? God is so good to me even when I don't deserve it. I was so humbled by this kind man, I was smiling from ear to ear in absolute awe. I knew God sent this man at this exact moment to show me love. He said he didn't know why but felt he need to stop by today. He believes there was a purpose to this situation. He was really nice, straightforward and honest. He actually explained to me that I needed to change my water pump and showed me a breakdown of how that worked, why and what he was going to do. Val is the man, very honest professional and won't rip you off like other places. I have a few BMW's and 3 other Mercedes-Benz's repairs can be expensive on these cars and not everyone knows the correct procedures and how to work on these cars they are much more complicated than other makes.
