The best bagels in the Bronx hands down - you can't beat them. Empire Bagels is the definition of no frills - they really don't have a storefront, all ordering is made via a walkup window. In addition to bagels, they have a number of different cream cheeses which are also very good. The bagels are made onsite, and like other Yelpers said there's something about getting them at the source which makes them extra special. My favorite is eating them within the same day of buying them, they're soft, chewy, warm, and delicious - I don't even need cream cheese or butter I'll eat it straight. Their selection is great too; plain, sesame, poppy seed, onion, everything, cinnamon raisin - they have most standard bagel flavors. This was not my first time coming to this place. Today though I walked away after rude service. When I asked for French toast bagel, I was told they didn't haven't it. I was calling my husband to see what would be his 2nd choice, he rudely told me to come back once I have my complete order. Once I came back, I had to wait for him to finish his conversation with another customer before he took my order. And while giving him my order, he walked away and I couldn't tell him I needed two coffees. When he came back and I tried telling him, he told me to wait as he walked away to take a call. Service was friendly and cracked me up the way the guy just said "No" for the several things they were out of (whole wheat bagel, blueberry cream cheese). As other reviewers noted, bagel was fluffy. Like a roll, to me. Not my personal preference, but decent. Bagel was still warm, and mid-morning on a weekday, there was a stream of customers but no line. Ate it at the bus stop bench. Yes, they have limited beverages but you can just pop on in next door to the bodega. Window service only and people (including me) wait on line in the rain and snow. Get there early on the weekend to get your favorite bagels because they do sell out quickly. They're open from 5AM-12PM. I've been living here for many years and have never had any issues but lately I have been so disappointed with the service! I brought a bagel with cream cheese and the cream cheese did not taste well. I went back and spoke to the mexican worker and he told me it was me! I told him I didn't want my money back or even another bagel! he was rude snatched the bagel from my hand, threw it in the garbage and walked away from me! this is not the first time that he's been rude, my son said he is rude to a lot of the customers. Just realized I never wrote a review for all the years I have been here. I mostly eat bagels as my breakfast since I was young. Out of all the places I tried in the bronx, queens, Long Island, Manhattan and Jersey, This place is my top favorite. This place has fresh bagels all the time! Every morning you will always see the workers making rounds and rounds of bagels. The bagel itself is big and doughy. They don't go lite on the cream cheese! They put a great amount of cream cheese, so every bite has that delicious flavor. My favorite to get is everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese. My boyfriend always mixed his up. Once in a while we will get coffee from them. It isn't my favorite, but it is not the worst I have tried. The price of the bagel is worth it. I alway recommend this place. Enjoy! read more

And I'm glad i did. Hands down - empire bagels has to be the best bagels in the Bronx ! The bagels are made fresh, on site, right inside. They open at 5am - 12pm 7 days a week. Fresh, soft and warm bagels. The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is because it's a bagel stand - If they had an actual shop, to sit and enjoy their bagels - 5 stars for sure. I normally don't have the time or the care to sit and write a review, however, today I have plenty of time. My parents are in town from Texas, my father wants to have the full New York experience, so one of his last requests before heading back home was to have a bagel. Nothing extravagant, a simple bagel and a black coffee. No problem, I responded as I pass a bagel shop everyday that has a line, which to me means the community loves them. Early Saturday As i have to move my car i stop to get him a few bagels and a cup of coffee. An hour later he has nothing. Why? The Spanish workers who take orders decided that the black guys order SHOULDN'T BE FULFILLED as everyone else's. I stood outside for 15 minutes waiting on three bagels and two cups of coffee, while a lady behind me got two dozen bagels fulfilled a guy next to me got his order plus something else he randomly asked for and three others. I'm not one to sit and call people labels, nor am i one to even care, however i am annoyed at the fact that everyone with a lighter skin tone than me got service while I brought my father air bagels. It's one thing in this community to be looked at while walking on the street in a hoodie. It's one thing to be followed in the Walgreens store you have to visit when you run out of toilet paper, even the racial slurs you endure at Peach Pit, but when people whose the same tone as you or even the same background discriminate it sucks! There has to be a level of accountability that everyone gets the same services they pay for. Empire. I'm disgusted by the treatment i revived today.
