Today I came in to get sandwich bacon egg and cheese sandwich, very simple. New employee, doesn't follow well. Not trained and disrespectful to and to poor service. The sandwich was terrible. Bacon was burned and was more worried about collecting payment instead focusing on making the sandwiche right. I have been coming to place for 20yrs never been asked to pay my sandwich before my sand was made which leans to making a bad sandwich with bad service. The sandwich was so bad I threw it away half eating of it. I specifically asked to NOT toast the sandwich still did it way. I will stop coming. Smelled so amazing from the street we decided to pop in. Staff was so pleasant, and the shop has the small town feel you usually won't expect to find in a big city. Although technically in Yonkers, it's a stones throw (by a toddler) from the city limit. (It's that close) Now for the food: I ordered a toasted everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and bacon DH ordered a toasted plain bagel with sliced turkey. Listennnnnnnnnn...... When I saw they were generous with the cream cheese.....It oozed out as I took my first bite. The integrity of the bagel was perfect. It had that perfect crunch when you bit into it, reminded me of a brioche (what do I know)? The bacon was thick and held up well. The combo may sound strange, but it's quite good. My DH said his sandwich tasted like ' real turkey' so that's a huge compliment coming from him. We took our order to go because of alternate sided back where we live, but we plan to come back and dine in. Now I want to finish my bagel while I await NYDS to do its thing. McLean Ave Bagel Cafe have good bagels. They are best I've had in Yonkers so far but they are not the best in NY. I'm one the will travel to Manhattan, BK or BX for the perfect bagel and plan my days activities around that when I'm craving it. However MABC definitely gets the job done and they have one of the best overall menu's in the area if you're looking for something else. Come early on weekends because they get packed and it can be challenging to get a table but they are well staffed and move quickly. read more

I started going here recently as the Bronx doesn't have much bagel spots and the fact that there only about 12 min dive away. They make really good bagel sandwiches and have great pastries. There bagel are good, lil fluffy and crispy on the outside. I like their bacon egg and cheese and their egg salad on wholewheat everything toasted with lettuce, tomato and black pepper. There operation runs smoothly and fast, so don't let the line fool you. One of my favorite bagel spots in the NYC area. It seats about 15 with a deli area to order food. They have a large variety of fresh bagels, ranging from everything to plain. You can have various breakfast or lunch items added to your bagel. My wife got an everything bagel with bacon, grilled cheese, and tomato, I got a toasted plain bagel with turkey. Nathan was our very helpful and friendly server. He advised us of the various cream cheeses and other items that they offer. This place has been a neighborhood staple for over 20 years. I used to frequent it back in the day, and my family and friends in the 'hood still do. I try to pop in whenever I am up visiting Woodlawn. This is a family-run business where they really seem to take the time to get to know and have sincere interest in their customers. They have an impressive array of muffins (their corn is excellent, and the cinnamon-coated crumb blueberry divine) and feature as varied an assortment of cream cheeses as any place with "Bagel" in their name should (and quality lox per my stepfather, of that is your thing). The quiches are always good as well, and the sandwiches solid. Prices seem to have hardly changed over the many years I have been visiting. The coffee is pretty standard, but then again, Woodlawn is more of a tea community anyway. They do seem to have pared down some offerings (used to have feature some great soups and larger breakfast options that I'm not sure they do any longer), but it's a rare pleasure when you return to a place and the reality almost lives up to your fond, fond memories. read more

Used to be really good years back, but with new ownership they started using cheaper supplies and you can really taste it. They also don't make anything fresh anymore, everything is premade and just heated up on request like mcdonalds which didn't used to be the case. It's also pretty common that orders are messed up. I have eaten here several times the egg sandwiches. But be weary I stopped going after being given really old chicken in a chicken sandwich. My son got sick after eating it I returned and showed them how the chicken was so tough it could t even be cut with the nails of my finger. It was as if they cooked old freezer dried chicken. Went there a few weeks ago and ordered an everything bagel with bacon egg and cheese with a large coffee with 3 sugars and extra milk. I asked the girl who was helping me to not make the eggs dry she said OK. As I stood there and watched the guy making it I saw him take precooked eggs from a bin near the griddle put them on the griddle top it with bacon and cheese. I didn;t think anything of it but then I saw them put it on my bagel. I told the girl that the eggs were dry and I didn't want it. The cook turned around and gave me a dirty look. Once again I stood and watched the cook and once again he did the same thing. When I got my sandwich I told the lady that he used eggs that were sitting around and he only reheated them and that they were dry. She insisted that they were not dry and wanted to open my sandwich to show me. I told her I didn't need to see it I saw what the cook did. I said I don;t think I will be coming back here. Here response was, "Ok don;t come back!" She told me the price and I said where is my coffee she said "oh how do you want it?" I told her and of course she didnt make it right. I have 3 problems w/ "Bagel Cafe" as it's known around town. Let me lay them out: 1. They are stingy with the butter. You want cream cheese (which they make in house), you will get GOBS of it. You want butter, you are going to get a scrape of it. I have had to re-butter my bagels after coming home THREE TIMES, even after telling them to put "a good bit of butter on it". They just ignore you. I won't get buttered bagels here any more. 2. They will put green tomato slices in your sandwich. Like, unripened tomatoes. I hate that. Just tell me you don't have any ripe tomatoes. I look at that like: would you eat this? If you won't eat it, don't give it to me. 3. They nickel and dime you. The prices are weird, and the drinks are too expensive. One time, I asked one of the owners to make me a sandwich. I asked for ham, swiss, mayo and mustard. He made me turkey and cheese. I really really don't like turkey. He repeated the order, telling me he made me turkey and swiss with mayo. So I was like, "No, no I asked for HAM, I don't eat turkey". He offered to make it again, but I really had to leave to go to work, and it had taken him forever to make the sandwich, so I said "Forget it, I'll just take it, I gotta go". Then he asked if I had wanted mustard. I was like: "Yeah, I did, but I have to leave" He charged me like, $8.00 for this sandwich. God forbid he ring me up for $5.00 and cut me a break bc he got the order wrong. The sandwiches can be good, but they are too expensive for what they are. Especially when they are wrong or I have to pick out unripened tomatoes. The amount of meat is inconsistent too. I've gotten some sandwiches that are good, and others that are light on the meat. If I spend another dollar, I can go to Avitabile and get an Italian hero, which is full of better, more expensive deli meats and on a hero. If Bagel Cafe was a person, I'd say get over yourself. read more

So I've been putting this off for a while. Only because this place has good iced coffee but I have some serious health concerns. I frequent this location for iced coffee and sometimes a bagel. I noticed today that the same sugar spill on the counter behind the register is still there from 4 days ago. The only reason I am sure it's the same is it has the same weird shape as when I first noticed it. If they don't even wipe down the counters, what else are they not doing? Also, they only use one glove when handling your food. While they like to make it seem like they are only touching your food with the covered hand, if you watch close enough, you will see this is not the case. What is the point of that? Laziness? Lack of knowledge? While I understand it is important to be speedy in the food business, you never sacrifice quality and health protocol for speedy service. You just don't. I want to also point out the glass case where the cream cheese and cookies (?) are kept is deplorable. The crumbs, the weird things in plastic tubs which might be raw chicken (whatever it is, I should not be seeing that next to the quiche I want to order!!) it's just ridiculous. Most of the staff is wonderful and helpful with the exception of a woman who can be really short with you unless she knows you. Then she calls you sweetie. Last encounter with her she made my bagel with her phone in one uncovered hand playing on snap chat. The place just looks so dirty. Please have some standard and clean up. SHOW some PRIDE in your local business. We do even though it's deplorably kept. read more

Wrap was ok. What I expected ( literally just grilled chicken in a wrap), just with a hefty price tag. All their sandwiches are. If you want a bagel, go ahead on in. If you want anything else, just be prepared to spend a few more dollars than you would if you just walked next door, across the street or down the block. Very happy this place exists on McLean Ave. I have a hard time finding foods for my dietary needs up in this area. They made me a simple whole wheat veggie wrap with roasted red peppers, cucumbers, lettuces, tomatoes, and cheese. They also have a veggie burgers on their menu. The muffins are fresh and tasty. The homemade soups are generally very good. My friends are always pleased with their sandwich choices. The prices are fair and the service is nice. The owners have been here since the 90s and are a constant, pleasant, friendly presence. It's a lovely place to either grab something to take away if you are in a rush, or to sit and eat there in an unrushed setting over your paper or with your company. read more
