The bagels at Utopia Bagels are definitely worth the hype and deserving of their reputation as one of the best bagel shops in the five boroughs. My everything bagel had a near-perfect balance between a crisp exterior and a satisfyingly chewy interior. That reputation means Utopia is likely to be busy no matter the day or time. I went around 11 am on a Wednesday, and there were about 10-15 people ahead of me. Between ordering and actually getting my bagel (and it was just a toasted bagel with cream cheese, not an egg sandwich or anything), it took about 15 minutes. That being said, are the bagels at Utopia worth making a special trip for? Not really, for me personally. While Utopia may technically be the best, there are enough bagel shops around Queens that come close enough that I don't see myself going out of my way to visit very often. Utopia has recently opened a few locations in Manhattan and Long Island City, so it's easier than ever to give them a try without coming out to Whitestone.
In the 80's and 90's utopia bagels was my go to spot. Although I still live in the area, I branched out to other bagel stores that were closer, more convenient and in my opinion, bigger and better bagels. Every time I wanted to go back to Utopia bagels, the lines were always out the door. I always thought to myself. Why? So, I finally went back yesterday as I had some time to kill and the line was not that bad (10:30 am. On a thurs.) Upon entering I see they've expanded the store since I was there last (which was many many years ago) . They have so many employees behind the counter, which keeps the flow moving. They have a lot to offer as far as baked goods, cold, cuts, eggs, etc. the usual . But, all I could think about were the Flagels. I got hooked on their flagels back in the day when they first started making them. My mouth was watering for a sunflower seed Flagel with butter, I had to have one. Back in the day the tops and bottoms were covered with sunflower seeds. That was the best part. A Crispy outside and crunchy sunflower seeds everywhere. Now, I was lucky I had about seven or eight sunflower seeds on the top and it was quite chewy. What a disappointment. I know utopia bagels is a staple in the neighborhood but Sorry..... it's not worth the hype. I won't be back.
The best bagels in Queens! The worth it is definitely worth it. Lox with cream cheese, tomato, red onions and capers is the perfect combination. The bagels are made fresh everyday and handrolled. The line can be long during the morning.
Whenever taking a red-eye into JFK, this is the detour I make when driving the rest of the way home. I've been to a lot of bagel stores, absolutely have a few fine ones here in the Hudson Valley, and often check out bagel shops when traveling around the state or country, but Utopia in Whitestone is my favorite. It's a friendly shop, even at 5:30 in the morning, and the bagels hit right every single time. I don't sleep well on overnight flights, but this breakfast stop helped make short work of that last 75 minutes of my drive home.
No surprise here, Utopia Bagels is enjoying more than 'a moment' because they are and always have been the best bagel in NY. As fans for 30 years, our only hope is they aren't expanding too rapidly. Best of luck, keep up the great work.
Go on a Wednesday to get the 5 star experience. Any other day you get a baker's dozen for the price of 12 bagels but on Wednesday, 16!! And these are classically good New York bagels; nice chew on outside and soft (but not too soft) inside. I got the 16 bagels for home and a BEC (if you have to ask what this is, then you are not a New Yorker) on sesame and rainbow with cream cheese for the drive. All were as it should be. It is getting hard to find classic good bagels similar to how it is hard to find classic good pizzas. I just wish I did not have to drive all the way to Whitestone to find them.
My stepdad loves the mini bialys from Utopia. Seems that everyone loves the bagels here, so I went. I needed to deliver 2 dozen of these morsels to some friends that somewhat recently relocated upstate. They miss good bagels....and were beyond happy with said delivery. I picked up another dozen to share with neighbors and throw a few in my freezer. I wolfed down two (one sesame and one egg) during my drive north and I'm not ashamed to admit that I could have shoved a third one down my pie hole. I ate the egg one plain and then decided to pull over at the Plattekill rest stop to throw a schmear of veggie cream cheese on the sesame. Yes. These bagels are damned good. I hit the Whitestone location at a good time; the line wasn't too bad and they have a big crew behind the counter that really hustles. Great, friendly service. I'm now known as the bagel sherpa around here, so I'm quite sure I'll be schlepping a few dozen north the next time I'm "downstate".

There's also usually a good amount of outdoor seating on the patio to enjoy the bagels on-site.

Chewy interior and a crisp exterior, with the option of filling it with your favorite fillings and then picking up a side or two and a drink from the refrigerators on the opposite wall. Chaos because there are so, so many people in the shop and it's a "who's next!" situation. Be ready to place your order if you're next to the counter or take a few steps back to let other people go ahead of you. Then enjoy your delicious bagel(s). They also accidentally put cheese on my bagel when I requested no cheese, still a good bagel sandwich though.
What a great local bagel shop! After being disappointed with the lox bagel at the most popular Russ & Daughter the last time we were in NY, I wanted to give it another try and had couple new bagel shops to try this time. What a store and friendly staff. Mr. Todd was very helpful in helping me get things to try. Wanted to try The Worth It and wasn't sure which bagel to get and toasted or not, so I told him to make it the way he wants to, I trust you:) The Worth It was definitely worth it! So delicious with the lox cream cheese plenty capers. Finally understood the allure of lox bagel that I still didn't get when tried the russ n daughter before. Got me really excited for more lox bagels, lol. Onion with cream cheese was delicious as well, bagel so chewy and good. Got kid the rainbow just to be playful and for photos. The Worth It is worth it for any time of the day!
Terrific hand rolled bagels have a nice crunchy exterior and soft inside. They are great with any of the many cream cheese options. Can't go wrong with an everything bagel and scallion cream cheese. Coffee was surprisingly good too. The service was friendly and helpful and there was plenty of seating out front if you want to eat there. My only disappointment was the baked salmon salad which was absolutely inedible and tasted nothing like kippered salmon. Not sure what other filler fish they put in there but they should really change the recipe.
I finally checked this popular bagel spot out in Queens. I went on a Sunday morning and was expecting a crowd since it was the weekend. Yup there was a line but it moved fairly quickly. I observed a lot of staff behind the counter and they were moving and shaking with great customer service. The store had a little bit of everything that a corner store/deli would sell. I noticed a vegan menu, waffles and pancakes, chips, fresh baked items, assorted cream cheese and hot and cold drinks. They also had a lunch menu with a variety of sandwiches. I ordered a toasted French toast bagel with peanut butter. I also ordered a strawberry bagel for the next day. I also purchased a cranberry and coconut butter cookie. Everything was fresh and delicious. I never had a strawberry bagel and it wasn't sweet. It tasted like a plain bagel with color, lol. Overall, I would check this spot out again and try some different menu items. read more

Our first stop after getting off the plane..... walked in and there was a small line which moved quick. Lots to choose off the menu- sandwiches, bagels and there is even fresh baked pastries and goodies on the other end of counter and a wall of cold drinks to choose from. We ordered a reg bagel w/cream cheese, 2 bacon egg and cheese on reg bagel and everything bagel with bacon egg and chive cream cheese. There is seating in the front in the patio. We ate in the car while we head to the train station- everything was delicious - the eggs were bit over cooked but overall everything hit. Nothing like starting our NY trip with a NY bagel! read more

Saw a news clip about this bagel emporium and decided to stop in since I was in the area for an appointment. Got an everything bagel (hot and fresh, just out of the oven) with chicken salad, and a large coffee. $13 plus with tax. Bagel was nice and crisp on the outside, chewy and tender on the inside. Chicken salad and coffee were good. I'll pass by again when back in the area. read more

When I'm in Queens I usually just get my bagels from a grocery store, but I think I found my new go to place with Utopia Bagel. The baker's dozen (13 bagels) is worth it because you can choose between regular and specialty bagels and it still comes out to $24. And if you get the dozen on a Wednesday, you can actually get 16 bagels! The bagels are big, and airy. The combinations and variety of options go on and on. Excited to be try a new one every time. They are pretty precise with the weight of spread you order, as well. We ordered the egg salad, tuna salad, and scallion cream cheese spread. The egg salad and tuna salad were mild in flavor, not heavy, tasted healthy. I've only come on weekends, so there is always a line out the door, but there are many staff members, so the line moves. If you are ordering a lot of bagels, be prepared for back-up options because although they are constantly making the bagels on the premise, popular options do run out and you may have to wait 15min for a new batch. read more

Amazing bagels and sandwiches! You come in and order. Wait for your food and then pick more bagels to bring home and then pay. Had the Lex which was super refreshing with the Lox mustard onions, however the peppers were hot, would probably go for the Worth it next time. Then had the cheech and this was amazing! Probably one of the best breakfast bagels I ever had. This had everything you want from egg sausage has brown and avocado! Would get again but it's definitely hearty. Service was quick and pretty nice. It is a bit chaotic to get someone's attention to start the order but it was okay. It's a pick up and go but they do have seating and benches which is really nice. Definitely coming back. Their French toast bagel and everything that I tried were all so good! Even after 2 days. read more

My goodness. For someone who has celiac , finding a good gluten free bagel is near impossible but Utopia bagels gave me the opportunity to have what is close to a regular bagel. I had to get both a toasted GF bagel with butter and a toasted GF bagel with peanut butter and jelly which was the best decision I made that day as they were just as expected. I'm nut from the area but when I'm back I will 100% be stopping by again. The only downside is the wait but it's well worth it. There is also an extensive selections of drinks to pair perfectly with your meal. 10/10 read more

I had the plain bagel with smoked salmon topped off with strawberry cream cheese. The smoked salmon was so fresh... just wow! They are generous with the salmon, I was only able to eat half! I saved the other half for later (and it was still so yummy). I can see why there are so many raving reviews for this place. Can't wait to try again in the near future! read more

No matter what time you come in, they have all their bagels ready for you. I love this because I am not a morning person so I usually miss out on fun bagels because they sell out first thing in the morning. I got lox and scallion cream cheese on a sesame bagel and it was oh so scrumptious. Fish was so fresh and they don't skimp. I'm still thinking about this sandwich. My boyfriend was finally able to get his fun blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese (has a sweet tooth lol). Strawberry cream cheese was fresh! The line looks long but they move FAST. Probably was in and out within 10 mins (if not less). read more

Got shamed for not ordering the way they wanted. Ordered on uber eats since that's the platform their site leads to for ordering online. Ordered cream cheese & lox bagel with toppings based on it being an available item to choose on their site. But when I picked up the order, the receipt had a note about how it "shouldn't be that hard to say the worth it". Why provide the option to choose certain items if you don't actually want customers to order them?? Don't know if they're upset that I didn't pay 1.5x the price for the same item (compared what I ordered to what I was told I should've ordered instead on the app), but time to find a new bagel place. read more
Truly an establishment - you know it's gonna be good when you get a whiff of freshly baked bagels, a long line that somehow moves quick, and a Best Bagel award! I tried a Flagel for the first time - more crunchy and easier to eat than a regular bagel sandwich, with the toppings not spilling over. The lox was so fresh and jam packed. I'd love to come again to try the Worth It bagel and other specialty bagels like the Asiago or Jalapeño Cheese, or even the Pina Colada! Definitely know what you want in advance - they take orders quick and you can wait up to 10 minutes for your bagels, but it goes by fast. They also have a variety of drink options and baked treats! read more
We came all the way from NJ to try out these bagels based on Joshua Weissman's video. First off, don't trust YouTubers. I got a simple bacon, egg and cheese and it was very mid. The ratio of filling to bagel was off. I'm rating this a 2 instead of a 3 because of the customer service experience. Staff was rude when ordering and the order line didn't make sense. Was very disappointed for the long trip over and a sad bagel! read more

Highly disappointed. Utopia Bagel is not what it used to be. The bagels are noticeably smaller than before--literal shrinkflation? On top of that, the quality has gone downhill. This bagel was burnt, smelled bitter, and just wasn't enjoyable at all. People say once you expand too fast, you lose quality control, and honestly... it shows. Sad to see a once-solid spot fall off like this. read more
New Yorkers gotta have their bagels. It's the unofficial breakfast of NYC. This is a major bagel producing operation at the north end of Queens by the Throgs Neck Bridge. They have to be mixing, rolling & baking those bagels in the wee hours of the night to get that many fresh bagels made before opening at 5:00am. They have the full range of popular bagels from everything, sesame, poppy seed, cinnamon raisin, pumpernickel, egg to you name it. They even have some specialty bagels like jalapeno cheddar, asiago & rainbow. Of course, my favorite flavor is onion with a schmear of cream cheese. Utopia Bagels gets a lot of traction on social media, where I've seen videos of owner, Scott Spellman slinging, rolling, boiling and baking bagels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSuAcDiwkk4 They don't place each poppy seed on individually, but they take the time to make a quality bagel. I like how they handroll each one into a uniform shape and thickness. The hole in the middle is more of a tight slit and that's good when you schmear cream cheese and it doesn't fall through the hole. I hate when other places make them lopsided with giant holes in the middle. On this recent visit, I stopped in the day before to place an order for 2 dozen assorted bagels for the office to be picked up early the next day. I wanted to take advantage of the Wednesday Bagel Special of buy 3 get 1 free. Their pastries are normally buy 3 get 1 free, but applies to bagels only on Wednesday, which is good deal. But when I cruise in at 6am, they lost my order. Not to worry though because they have plenty of all the bagels I wanted and they packed up a fresh order in a couple of minutes. And since I bought 2 dozen, they threw in 2 additional bagels to complete the baker's dozen. I toss the full bag of bagels into the car and enjoy the smell of everything bagels on my whole drive to work. They were a hit at the office. There is NYC pay metered parking on Utopia Pkwy in the front (9am-7pm) and free customer parking in the back and the side streets if you don't mind walking a few extra steps to save money. If you come early to pick up breakfast or on a Sunday, park wherever you like for free (except at the hydrant, where it'll cost you $115). Oh, and as I was walking out after placing my order, I saw a family sitting at the tables on the sidewalk with a big pizza box emblazoned with Utopia Bagels on it. They were enjoying a giant pizza bagel! LOL That's what I want next time! Mustn't forget about all the great sandwiches also! read more

Upon arrival be prepared to stand on a long line unless you placed and order online. Street parking is available and there's plenty. They have seating on the outside but that gets crowded as well. Plenty of staff to handle any size order or crowd and they know how to handle it so you won't be on the long line for a long time. Not much to point out about the ambiance it's deli style. My bagel was fresh and the eggs were made well, my turkey bacon could have been a little crunchier but all in all it was good. read more

A local gem in Bayside, Queens, Utopia Bagels on Utopia Pkwy offers a variety of fresh hot bagels, breakfast sandwiches, bagel lunch sandwiches, bagel pizzas, pies, pastries, muffins, espresso beverages and entire wall of cold refreshments. It's a busy spot for locals & tourists alike so expect a line. Service is friendly & fast. A favorite is The Utopia if you like prosciutto; one of my favorites, the New Yorker with pastrami & coleslaw & The Worth It, is a Nova lox standby. If you like a chicken cutlet, the Yankee Clipper comes with sundried tomatoes. It's New York so nothing is cheap but the prices are reasonable with generous portions & good value. Free street parking; casual neighborhood vibe. Support your local small businesses & restaurants. read more

Yes, there will be bagels left to purchase. That is never a problem here.

Probably not there not closed during the holidays and the make items in the oven that are not separated
Low carb bagel does it have alot less carbs than regular is it worth having or just have regular?
All bagels have a lot of carbs 84 per bagel so if you need to stay away from carb bagels are not good you can scoop them out that takes more than half the carbs away. The low carb has only 55 carbs still a lot but less and they do taste great.
What is the difference between the country chicken salad and the plain chicken salad?
Country Chicken Salad has walnuts and cranberries.
How many carbs in the low carb bagel? Is it keto friendly?
50 -54 grams not kept friendly . scooped will reduce it in half. i still don't think kept friendly but close.
I notice they have gluten free bagels. Does anyone know if they are cooked separately from the regular bagels? My mother has celiac and cannot have cross contamination. Thanks
