One of the top Italian bakeries in NY and an absolute must stop when visiting Arthur Ave. You walk in and you feel like you just stepped back in time to your childhood when more of these Italian American bakeries existed. Bread, cookies, and pastries are all showcased and it smells great. If you go during the afternoon during the week it won't be as crowded as it can get on the weekend. Everything here is terrific. Whenever I'm in the area I'll bring home a pound of assorted Italian cookies, I'll also grab rainbow cookies and cannolis. Their cannolis are terrific, some of the best in NY. Yes, NY, not just NYC. I think what makes their cannoli stand out amongst some of the best is their shell. It's always fresh and crispy. Their filling is a little more vanilla forward compared to other NY institutions version of the cannoli, so keep that in mind when trying one. I'll put it to you this way, if you like Italian pastries, especially cannolis make this place a destination to visit, give them a try and see how it ranks up compared to your favorites. And while you're there, take in the rest of Arthur Ave! Oh, I almost forgot. They have what my husband says are the best savoiardi cookies in the state. Situated perfectly in the middle of Arthur Avenue, Madonia may not be hidden, but it certainly is a gem. As you enter its doors you're hit with that sweet bakery smell of fresh bread and classic Italian confections. The ambiance is classic and unassuming, letting the treats that fill the glass displays and what I dubbed the 'biscotti wall' take center stage, deservingly so. The service was outstanding, as the staff masterfully took care of the hefty crowd that was there while I was...boxing cookies, explaining biscotti flavors, preparing coffees, and filling cannoli to order. The olive bread was incredible, and is worth the trip alone. They have more biscotti variety than you could imagine, all which look and sound amazing. Great selection of breads, cookies, and other classic Italian sweets. We opted for a few cannoli to accompany our olive bread, and they hit the spot. The shell was outstanding- crispy, held together well, and good flavor. The filling had nice flavor, but was a bit too sweet and the consistency was a tad pudding-ish for my particular preference. This is the place ! This outstanding authentic Italian bakery makes the most delicious breads ,cookies and biscotti! There are so many bread choices from traditional round bread, olive bread, cranberry walnut and so many more! I purchased the round Italian , it's delicious, with a nice crisp outside and not too soft inside . Perfection! I ADORE the cannoli from this place. Filled to order right in front of you. These are delicious. Groan-worthy good. Because I eat them so fast, I got 4 at a time and they lasted for a week in the fridge. The biscotti is pretty good, nothing super exceptional and I'll take or leave the Italian cookies, honestly I've had better elsewhere. I haven't tried the breads, but the selection is vast. I came here with my family to check out their selection since we were having lunch at Enzo's after. This is an old school Italian bakery with a large bread and cookie selection. We ordered some Regina cookies and toasts. The cookies and toasts were delicious and fresh. My family also ordered their cannolis and they were filled to order. They said the cannoli was great as well. Surprisingly, we had their olive bread at Enzo's since it was in the bread basket. It was delicious and I really enjoyed the cured olives. I stopped by this bakery because of the wide selection of desserts, and there were plenty of options to choose from. I wasn't disappointed with what I took home some desserts were a bit too sweet for my taste, while others were perfectly balanced and delicious. The atmosphere, however, wasn't very welcoming, and if it weren't for my girlfriend wanting dessert, I probably would have walked out. I had biscotti and cannolis from this bakery and really enjoyed both. The only downside is that there was no air conditioning, so it was really hot inside and there is no seating. I actually preferred the biscotti's here. They have tons and tons of flavors. The cannolis are also filled with the ricotta cream fresh for every order. What the heck happened to this place? Went here often from 2000-2015. Ten years later, the cookies are now $19 a pound and they all tasted stale. Either stale or artificial. An Arthur Avenue icon since 1918, I totally lost control. The fennel raisin bread is a savory experience. I really couldn't picture how fennel and raisins, sweet and herbal would combine, but this definitely works. The cinnamon raisin bread is similarly special as is the olive bread, simply incredible. I'm very disappointed with this bakery. I wrote a google review the day I went on 4/17/2026 and they reported me for giving them a two star review. I couldn't believe it. My family and I have been going to this bakery for many years. It was our go-to spot. We loved the pastries here, but the size of the cookies has decreased to half the size they used to be. They may as well be cookie bites with how tiny they are now. The price somehow remains the same for half the amount that I got before. I thought price went based on weight, but I guess not. The young ladies in the front are rude and don't understand anything you say. I repeated myself a ridiculous amount of times every time I went and they still didn't understand a word I said. Eventually I just got frustrated and gave up on asking for the pastries I wanted and just got a few cookies. I will take my business elsewhere especially with how they deal with criticism.
