Monroeville empire is the worst school you could ever attend. They don't have a consistent teacher on a regular basis . I attended the evening classes. They're never was a consistent teacher the director, Miss Nicole Santelli, I believe that's her name.If her teachers call off, she will not stay. She will put on her coat and leave without anyone directing the class. I'm currently in the process of doing a class action suit to recover some my tuition. I have come here multiple times to get my hair done and while the stylists are students, I've never been disappointed. If you ask them to do something, they do it with no challenge. I did have a few instances where they don't blow dry my hair enough and then they attempted to press my hair. As you can imagine, that didn't work out well for me and they had to blow dry it a little longer. But honestly, you can't beat $14 for a shampoo, blowout and press! read more

I think they did a good job for what it's worth $12 shampoo blow dry and straighten. It took little longer than it would but I know it's because these hair stylist are still in training which is fine as long as your not in a rush. My hair was a hot mess and it looked good after. Yup! Five stars! I went to get my hair done with my daughter for her hs graduation. I live in Jefferson Hills; so yea there's a closer one in West Mifflin; but I was recommended Sharhonda. I hadn't had the time to take care of my hair; due to being so busy and I apologized to her for the messy, knotty hair. She washed my hair and brushed out my knots. Then she blow dried it to cut down on straightening time. She then used her amazing hair straightener; that left my hair so feathery! I left there a new woman. All for $14!!! Thank you! I came in looking for just a gel polish application, all the student did was file my nails and applied the polish on, sloppy too, I may add. When I went to pay, it came up to $18 - 8 for a basic manicure and 10 for a gel polish add-on. I found this a COMPLETE RIP OFF since I didn't even get the full service of a manicure. When I asked how come all I got was my nails filed she said that they can't soak my nails it b/c i'm getting gel polish - uhhhh no, they do this all the time at legit nail salons!!! And then she said couldn't use the cuticle clippers b/c it was against some PA law when she was doing my nails her colleague asked her if she had a cuticle clipper like wtf??? I was close to leaving her a tip but it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I should've just paid the extra $5-10 to get a LEGIT manicure & gel polish at a nail salon. read more

If i could give 0 stars i would. Let me start by saying that I've been here before and was very pleased with a student named crystal. I had a short cut and had been growing out the back. When i called i asked for someone with knowledge and confidence with short cuts. I was told Stephanie would be the best person. When i arrived i was told that she called off. I voiced my concerns to the instructor and her exact words were, 'I'm here, you'll be ok'. I should have left at that time. I was assigned to Maureen. Very nice woman. Very new to the floor. Confident- at first. After i asked a few questions, she became nervous and stated that she was nervous because of my apprehension. I appreciate her honesty. Once again, another opportunity for me to walk out. She said she wanted to get the instructor to do it. Instead she returned with Trinity. Trinity seemed to be confident but i soon figured that her confidence was actually an 'i know it all' attitude. I showed her a couple pictures of how i wanted my hair. One she completely blew off by saying 'your hair is too thick for that'. THAT PARTICULAR PICTURE WAS ME 4 YEARS AGO! Another missed opportunity to walk out. I explained to her once again how far i wanted her to go up with the clippers. Once the clips started i swear she forgot everything i said to her. She literally scalped the back of my head. By the time i realized how far up she went, it was too late. I'm not the type of person to yell, scream and cuss people out, but i wish i were. But that's not the end. The instructor attempted to 'take out the bulk' in the crown of my hair which just left me with horribly uneven hair that looks quite unhealthy. I figured, they messed it up, I'm going to allow them to fix it. Bad move. The instructor asked another stylist to wrap or mold my hair (which at this point had been blown dry) the stylist put a small amount of wrap lotion in her hand and attempted to mold my bone dry hair and use neck strips to hold it down. My response was WTF! At that point, i told them i would just finish it at home. I was obviously upset and the instructor gave me 2 cards. One for 20% off and one for $5 off. Neither of which i will ever use because i have no intention of ever stepping foot in their again. Oh and i was still charged. However, i did tip maureen. She had enough intelligence to admit that she was unable to do my hair. I know this is a school and they are learning. I have been there several times before. I was pleased most of the time and can say they tried. Trinity needs to return to the classroom or acknowledge that ethnic hair isn't her calling. I know it's just hair and at the end of the day it will grow back. However she fucked up my hair with reckless abandonment under the supervision of the instructor. She needs to realize that the has 2 ears and one mouth for a reason. She needs to listen twice as much as she talks. I will never, ever step for in Monroeville empire beauty school again read more

I called last week and scheduled appointments for both my daughters to get their hair braided. The woman scheduled it for today July 3rd at 10 am..I asked to make sure they were open being so close to the holiday I was told yes even given the names of the girls we got scheduled with..We live in Blairsville PA drove an hour to Monroeville to find them CLOSED!! Somebody made a huge mistake and cost us alot of extra $ that wasnt planned in gas and finding someone else last minute to do their hair..very upset with this situation! read more

I have been to Empire several times and the experiences were mostly satisfactory. On one of my trips, the gel application to my nails failed and I had to return to have the polish removed. The staff was wonderful and worked to make things right. Amy, one of the leaders, was great. As far as hair color, the first two times I had it done, I was pleased. However, the third application did not cover the gray, and the color was definitely off. It did not look like the swatch that we had selected. Also, my friend and I tried pedicures. We had a great time with the students, and the pedicures were adequate. The educators come around to aid the students and to help, when necessary. The one bad experience was when I took a male friend in for a hair trim, and he walked out nearly bald. I don't know if the student slipped with the clippers, or if she intentionally scalped him. Overall, however, I give three stars. Customers need to realize that these are students, and they are learning. I am sorry to see the bashing by other customers, and I hope to see more positive reviews. I have talked with returning clients who have been going there since Empire opened its doors - let's hear from them!!! read more
