I was able to book an appt for the same week, which was convenient. When I showed up my worries grew. This is not some fancy spa. Their certificates are framed but scotch taped to the wall. The bathroom really needed to be cleaned and you're not allowed to flush toilet paper. Before my massage they gave me a "consultation" basically selling me acupuncture, which I would be interested in but I was still unsure of this place so I declined. There was a woman before me who came out of the massage room like she had had an intense workout and was scheduling another appt, so that was spirit lifting to me. Why would she come back if it was awful, right? I went into the room, which is very small, laid down on pink flower sheets that a 5 year old would love, covered myself with a bath towel and mentally prepped. The massage started with body rubbing, and I was like, shit that review was right. But then, oh then, it started. This guy Went. All. Out. I mean, on the table straddling my head to get in there. And I wasn't mad at it. This was by far the greatest thing I have ever experienced. I NEEDED this massage. I wasn't there for some relaxing massage, I was in pain from how tense my neck and shoulders were. There were times when it hurt but this was heaven to me. I walked out in such a puddle that I completely forgot to ask the guy's name. I'll just call him Angel. I get tension headaches everyday but after this massage I went 2 weeks without one. Glorious! Yes, the decor needs an upgrade and the people skills could use a tweak, but you get what you come for with this guy. I would suggest forgoing the hot stone if it costs more; he just rubbed them around for a minute at the end and it was unnecessary at that point. If you're looking for the spa experience, this is not for you. If you're looking for a body beating in the best way possible, give them a try. Oh also, if you don't life being naked in front of other people I wouldn't suggest this either. The office is off Union Ave and definitely needs a make over. Upon entering I was greeted by the friendly front desk receptionist. I was asked to fill out some basic paperwork. I was ushered into the massage room and the massage began. Ellen did a great job on the massage and used chiropractor techniques which was nice. Biggest complaint is that I bought a 60 minute massage and all I got was 40-45 minute massage. Some spots were rushed through which I didn't like. The chiropractic adjustment was very interesting as I was a first timer. I didn't know what to expect but I didn't expect my body to make weird noises like it did. I'm forgetful so I appreciate the reminder texts and how prompt they are in responding. Not to mention their hours are late (7pm I believe) so I used to come after work for a 6pm appt The facility is really clean and I feel safe here. They take my temperature and check my oxygen levels before servicing me. I was afraid of needles (still am) but these needles are painless and after every session, I feel immediate relief. I do acupuncture for stress/anxiety, acid reflux, allergies, blood circulation and from time to time muscle aches or strains. I feel so relaxed and the massage afterwards is incredible. Both Jessie and Deena have miraculous hands and I like my deep tissue massage. I also started doing PT and Dr. Lee is amazing. I've had a bad knee since I've had ACL surgery so he's been helping me with exercises and stretches to increase my mobility and range. It broke after two weeks. Amazon replaced it, but the new one didn't work either. Since Manhattan Wellness stopped selling on Amazon, I had to deal with them directly. After weeks of chasing them down, a woman named Kathy finally replied and said if I paid for shipping both ways -- $60 -- they'd send me a new one. So I did. It took months and multiple follow-ups to get that replacement. By the time it finally showed up, I had already bought a different brand because I needed one for my neck. I stored the Manhattan Wellness one, unopened, until recently. When I finally plugged it in -- nothing. It won't even charge. Total junk. I emailed Kathy again (weeks go by, as usual) and told her I wanted a full refund plus the $60 shipping I paid. Nothing. No response. If they're willing to scam me out of all this money, lie, ignore me, and act completely unprofessional, how do you think that reflects on their actual therapy business? This is a New York City-based therapy and wellness practice that claims to specialize in mental health, couples therapy, and overall well-being. The irony is unbelievable -- a company supposedly helping people heal and feel better can't even treat their paying customers with basic respect. If this is how they operate on the business side, what else are they doing that's unscrupulous behind closed doors? Out of nowhere I felt a sharp pain in my lower back and fell to the ground. I thought it would be temporary and everything would be ok, but sadly I was wrong. I tried to go in to work and had to get off the train and rush to my boyfriends chiro for help. He did what he could, but the pain was still unbearable and I had a flight to catch! I made the trip, but it wasn't enjoyable at all, looking back on things, I should've just taken the L and missed the trip, but I had to be there for my friend and I feel better now so worth it right?!! Once I arrived, I was greeted by the receptionist who had me fill out all the proper paperwork and then I went to see Dr. Bruce! I explained to him what was going on and as soon as he examined me I started crying. When I tell y'all my pain was unbearable I was not kidding! He could tell how much I was hurting and assured me that he'd do everything to help me feel better. After just the first treatment.... y'all I couldn't believe it but I actually left feeling better. I was walking back to my office with a smile and a little pep in my step. I thought they were doing some kind of witchcraft in there because the difference from when I walked in to now leaving was HUGE! I couldn't wait to go back to my next session so I could get to 100% The second session wasn't so great, I left thinking things got worse, but after the third and I fourth, I realized this was all part of the process and finally I can say that I am back to my old self.. but with a better back! Dr. Bruce was fantastic and I am so thankful to him for helping me get to a better place. Although I feel better, I plan on going back soon because it's nice to just get seen and make sure things are going along as they should. Couple days later, I found myself in excruciating pain on my upper back (shoulder blade) and called them to see if I can pop in for that first visit. Not only did they say "yes, sure come in now," but they also treated the free consultation as if I was already a paying client. Very very nice staff, big & clean office space, looks like they treat all different kinds of things due to the number of staff members and equipment. Already have a follow up appointment. Ready to get better.
