Bought a Groupon (4 adjustments) recently for Dr. Ward and overall doing scheduling over the phone wasn't much of an issue as previous reviews had mentioned. Due to recent lingering shoulder pains, I decided to see if Dr. Ward could make things better. After the initial consultation, Dr. Ward concluded that there was nothing wrong with my shoulder and that I was out of alignment and needed to see him at least twice a week for a year. On my third adjustment, they were pushing both a $700 adjustment plan as well as some $5,000 annual plan. Due to the fact that by my 4th adjustment I really didn't see much improvement in pain nor did I have $5,000 at this moment to spend, I pushed pause on treatment. I decided to go for a second opinion and went to a second chiropractor who gave me a completely different diagnosis and determined that my alignment was perfectly fine and urged me to get an MRI to properly determine my issue. The MRI report revealed that I have a rotator cuff injury which likely means that the correct place to go to is physical therapy. To be honest, I don't really doubt Dr. Ward's ability as a chiropractor cracking and pushing the body into alignment however if the office is pushing you to get long term treatments, I would heavily recommend the patient get a second opinion and not feel bullied or pressured to buy an expensive package. read more

If you feel like a cold might be coming on or your overworked and de energized then try coming in for an adjustment from Dr. Ward , a couple of times this winter I felt like my body might come down with a cold and maybe I would have but I came in for an adjustment and it gave my whole body the boost I needed to correct itself and fight off any potential sore throat , cold or flu. Friendly staff, excellent massage chair, and their Groupon deal is worth every penny. Appointments are very quick and basically you just get a few cracks and are good to go. I liked them, but I'm not sure how it compares with other chiropractor businesses since I've never been to a different one. It just seemed like sometimes they had you in and out in a rush. I bought 8 adjustments from groupon and walked into their clinic on 11/21/2017 only wanting to make an appointment since i was in the area, when i went in, they told me they don't do "walk ins" and i said i only wanted to come in make an appointment but then i don't know what changed because the lady at the front desk suddenly asked me if i wanted to do the first adjustment today. maybe someone cancelled their appointment or something and they have a open slot? i don't really know... but i agreed to it right away without a second thought. since it was my first time at a chiropractor i was a bit nervous, especially since i wasn't expecting they would take me in right away. but Dr. J was very patient with me as i was trying my best to describe the problems i'm experiencing and how much my body feels off. I got my x ray done and we went over it together. he even allowed me to take a pic of my x rays with my phone when i asked. but anyways, he explained the problems i have and it turns out i had multiple problems more than i thought i had before i went in. the adjustments were fast and smooth, i didn't experience any pain during the adjustments and instead it feels weird in a really good way. dr. J told me i'll experience soreness on my back the next day but i didn't feel any soreness at all. the next morning(yesterday) i woke up and everything felt normal, no soreness, no nothing. so i decided go to gym and everything feels normal as usual until i started doing my first workout of the day, and WOWWWWW! my entire mindset just changed, i did 16 pull ups in a row like my body is as light as a feather, i felt so much stronger, so much more explosive power and faster than before like my body has been reborn overnight. the max weight i use to struggle with for my back days workouts just became so much easier to pull like it was nothing and i really wasn't expecting that at all. Got what I thought was a deal on dealfind (p.s. dealfind sucks, don't use it) and was really annoyed when I got to the office and saw they had cards all over the waiting area offering the same exact deal on dealfind. So pretty much any new client that comes in can get a massage and an exam for $30 anyway. How lame. I've never been to a chiropractor before so wasn't sure what to expect. My husband and I both went the same day and had really different experiences with the massage. He was told to fully undress. I was told to keep my clothes on. He got what he said was relatively OK and the girl I had, though I was asking for a tough massage, I think was trying to beat me up. When she was "massaging" my ab area in order to get to my muscle in my back, I was telling her it was pinching, and she said it was nothing. When I got home, I saw that the pinching was probably from the scratches I had on my stomach from her nails! Through my freaking clothes! I also didn't want to be rude, but she spent the whole time talking about Asian men and how they suck and she doesn't like dating them and throwing out every Asian stereotype she could think of because she was Chinese and I am Filipino and figured I must agree with her on everything. I didn't come here to defame the entire Asian race, man. I just wanted to get a little massage to relieve the tension in my back, geez! When I finally got to the chiropractor, he was wearing a Hawaiian shirt of some sort, which didn't instill the greatest confidence, but whatever. Wear what you want man. What bugged me was that he took X-rays and told me my back was misaligned without showing me anything and said he would put me on some sort of treatment plan for several months. WHAT?! No thank you. Wow, what? I, too, got the Groupon, and I am amazed by the flood of negative comments. How can you complain about $30 for a massage, an x-ray, and an adjustment? (Hint: you can't.) I'm so satisfied with the services that I continue to get weekly adjustments. My experiences and some responses to criticisms follow: -Yes, I had to schedule an appointment months in advance, but the office clearly had a backlog of appointments after offering the $30 deal. -The staff working the desk are nothing but pleasant. I am pretty sure I have dealt with all of them at one point or another, and I have never received the rude treatment described by some of the other commenters. -The massage I had was fantastic. I had Jared (ask for him!), and it was truly the best massage I've had in my life, although, in the interest of full disclosure. I've had very few professional massages. -The equipment at the office is great, especially the water bed massage I get before each adjustment. I want to be on it right now. -Dr. Ward may be quick with his adjustments, but he is very thorough, and he has always given me enough time to listen to and discuss my issues and my progress, and he has helped supplement my plan to keep my back in working order. But you have to be prepared and (I hate the word, but...) proactive when discussing your health with him. This has been my experience with all of the professionals I've dealt with regarding my back problems. -On the last point, it's worth noting that the doctor and his staff have strong opinions about different sorts of back treatments--say, steroid shots. But this is a chiropractic office, and, again, my experience has been that such practices do not necessarily agree with some of these other methods. In any case, Dr. Ward and his staff do NOT push their views on you--they express their reservations but allow you to make your choices. Exercise your personal agency. -I do agree that I felt a little bit of the hard sell when it came to scheduling further appointments, both from the doctor and from the staff, but, once again, I told them that I was not sure I wanted to continue and needed time to think about it. They backed off immediately. As I stated above, I have continued to see Dr. Ward over the past month or two, and my back is feeling great. I have much more flexibility than I've had for years--I'm able to crawl and roll around on the floor with my 1.5 year old son--and episodes of pain are fewer and less intense. I'm supplementing this with steroid shots and a few exercise programs. I will continue to see Dr. Ward because his services fit into my plan not to have the back of a 60-year-old man at the age of 30. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would do so. I got the $30 deal and the massage itself was fine. The guy who did it was very professional and patient. Answered all of my questions. The receptionist was also fine. Now -- the bad!!! Dr. John Ward is simply the most unprofessional physician there is. The guy is in and out, tells you your back is all sorts of messed up and when you ask for a moment to digest the information, he forces treatment on you. Umm, no. How does this guy not get his license revoked? You cannot force treatment of patients, it's not a good work ethic. He was very rude and acted like I was wasting his time when I refused X-rays. This business takes care of all my chiropractic and massage therapy needs. Let me start by saying I have read most of the reviews (even the hidden ones). In my opinion, people feel obligated to complain on review sites. Therefore there are fewer compliments. 44st Street Chiropractic does a fine job and deserves a compliment. I have been going here for about a month or two, three times a week, and was introduced to them through groupon. Being a small business owner and entrepreneur I value customer service. The staff at 44th Street Chiropractic are always cheerful and are quick to asks "How are you feeling today?". Dr. Ward is very knowledgable and will take the time to answer any questions. He's also a big guy which is clutch because I need someone strong to adjust me. I am 6'1, 190 pounds and athletic. I also bought a Groupon for this place, and had the same frustrating time making appointments as the other reviewers. I did read the reviews before finally going, and must say I had a bit of trepidation. But i persevered, what the heck - and to my surprise, had one of the best massages and adjustments of my life. I have a spinal injury and have been receiving adjustments for 8 years, so I unfortunately know the field pretty well...and upon moving to NYC last year from a regular treatment schedule in boston, I've been shocked to test drive the absolute most charlatan chiropractors here, and at highly reviewed offices. Dr. Ward is the real deal, and I will back. So relieved. (PS The massage therapist was good, but way too chatty, and I also think the policy of back-to-back scheduling is terrible...I was early, but because her previous clients were late, my massage was 40 minutes instead of an hour. I arrived to Dr. Ward through a Groupon for an assessment and four adjustments. After completing this, I came to the conclusion that the office was simply too far away from me to continue treatment. Run from this fraudulent quack as quickly as possible! After taking x-rays, Dr. Ward told me I had 2-4 herniated discs, a severe scoliosis, and arthritic degeneration and needed at least 60 treatments 3x a week and when I asked to see the x-rays he showed me some poor Quasimodo like images. I took photos of the x-rays with my phone and after considerable distress about my health, I noticed that 1) the name was blacked out, 2) the images showed some sort of metal collar buttons I don't have on any of my shirts, and 3) that the guy in the chest x-ray didn't have the piercing that I have!!!! I have filed a formal complaint with the NY Department of Health and sincerely hope this crook loses his license!!! read more

so I went to Dr Ward (PS:he is not doctor ..that's a highest education level and he is just a chiropractor) cause my boyfriend purchased a groupon for me...the 1st time I got there everything was relatively good...nothing great but not bad..the second time though was a different story..so I booked my appointment for 10 am but I finally saw Ward only when I complained to the receptionist that my name was second in the check in list but I was seeing people who arrived much later than me going in before me...I was just being ignored from both the receptionist and Ward who were seeing me waiting..I go to her and I'm like "well I have to go cause we said 10 and its 11,I have other things to do than wait here forever "she even dared to argue with me telling me that she asked if there's anyone waiting for Ward and she kept arguing with me telling me I'm sorry you didn't hear me...terrible excuse! Why would I ignore her when she asked and instead of going in I stayed at the lobby waiting for an hour?!it doesn't make sense!!!now let's talk about Ward..all good with the adjustments he did on me BUT.....so he wanted to put me in a 1 year program/twice a week claiming that I have a very serious inflammation on my neck that in 5 years if I don't fix it it will cause serious neurological problems and that my condition will be so bad that I will have to call 911 to pick me up!!!all these were coming from some xrays where i personally didn't notice anything weird like a shadow where that inflammation is supposed to be!....not to mention that he already knew that I suffer from depression and anxiety from the papers I filled out and he used that to make his point stronger!!!so he kinda did his best to freak out a clinically depressed and anxious patient just because he was missing a few thousand bucks out of his pocket!!to me that's completely unprofessional and immoral!!!what kinda person does that?? I first came in for really bad back pain and he totally saved me from agonizing pain and immobility...like any other services related to back pain, it takes a bit of time and patience to see the effect at the beginning, generally recommended to go in frequently for first couple months or so but it will get eased up over time. Oh My God! I can't believe that my husband didn't read the yelp reviews before gifting me a deal from this place and buying one for himself. My review is basically a rerun of E.Z.'s review for this place minus the last bit of lady eating up his time before the massage started. She did her bit already though, while getting the forms filled by me.... They give a whole new meaning to the term 'You get what you pay for'. First of all, we made an appointment in Feb and got booked for May as if the whole of NY is getting a chiropractic consultation done from them. I was running a bit late for my appointment, so the receptionist told me that time shall be reduced from my massage. Come on now. I have never experienced such a thing from any other place before. Then they monopolized my entire time in getting the formalities done as in filling out the form and other time passing activities. The massage appointment lasted only for 20 minutes or less and basically didn't do anything for me besides giving me a throbbing headache. My only fault was that I forgot to warn my husband beforehand about their ways and he also had to go through all these 'formalities', which ate up more than half of his appointment too. No wonder Dr. Ward had to offer groupon deals. He did my X-Rays in a jiffy and when my husband and I requested to see the X-Rays, he very cutely refused showing us to the front desk so as to convince us for making a follow up appointment with them. I started seeing Dr. Ward back in April after having constant severe neck pain after a long flight. I've always had some neck and lower back pain but this was worse than ever before. I found his office through Groupon and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made! He discovered from an X-ray that the vertebrae in my spine were misaligned and now I go to him twice a week and my pain is completely gone besides getting occasional stiffness from sitting behind a desk all day. Wish I could give 0 stars. Do NOT trust this chiropractor! Like others here, I had a groupon and he took x-rays, and in my case actually showed me some, saying that my hips were misaligned and that I should sign up for 3-times a week treatments to heal it. I was suspicious since I'd never had hip or lower back problems, but had upper back problems when I was younger. I went to another chiropractor (Tribeca Spine and Wellness, great place!) and they took x-rays showing no hip or lower back problems, but some mild kyphosis of the upper spine. I didn't tell them about my back problems as a child, and they were actually doing what doctors are supposed to do!! NEVER go to this office. They may seem nice but cannot be trusted. I need to find a way to report them to the Better Business Bureau! read more

I had the WORST massage of my life here. The woman was literally just digging her elbow as hard as she could into the most tense, painful areas of my back/neck. When I told her it was too much, she didnt let up, but instead just told me to breathe and relax... how am I supposed to do that when I'm in that much pain?! I have some jaw problems and she dug her fingers into the area around my jaw.. it hurt so bad and I tried to get her to stop.. she didn't let up until I actually started tearing up. It was the worst experience I've ever had. The chiropractor was fine.. kind of an ass though. I bought the groupon to come here back in January when I was looking for a new chiropractor, but they couldnt schedule me until March. When I told him I had been seeing a different chiro, he got all defensive and said "well then tell me what you want me to do." I wish I never purchased this voucher. I bought this months ago and I waited a long time to use it -- today at 4:30 pm. i asked for 6 pm so i could go after work. The receptionist said they only have appointments until 4:30 pm. ?This meant i had to leave work 2 hours early so I could make my appointment. I called this morning to make sure the Dr was there so i won't waste time going there. No one answered. I called one hour later and the nasty receptionist said the Dr. has a death oin the family and won't be there but to come in for the scheduled massage. I told her I need a note for my job as i had to leave early to make the appointment. She said okay and she said when I got there she would make another appointment for me to see the doctor. ?She said she was calling all the patients to inform them he was out. But she lied because she never called to inform me this morning. The massage was okay alittle weird at first as the masseuse was massaging me through a sheet and was wearing latex gloves. I never had the masseuse do that. I dozed off so he got my muscles relaxed. I got my hours worth but when I went to get a note which was to simply state I had an appointment there the crazy ignorant loon receptionist wrote on the note I was seen there for a massage. Ignorant lady does not know or understand Hippa law. She insisted I did not see the Dr. and insisted I demanded her to write that -- but I only needed the note with his letterhead to say I had an appointment there and it is confidential whatever I had done at this medical facility. She's not understand. Looney tune rips up the note and refuses to write one sans information- but takes a small business card and writes on the back. How is that for good customer service? I plan to take this up with NYS discipline board on health professionals as the dumbest medical receptionists know a thing or two about HIppa and yes Hippa applies to chiropractors. Then when I ignorant lady leaves dumb message on my machine that shes sorry for what happened but I insisted she write a note saying I saw the Dr. Again somebody is taking stupid pills. I love Dr. Ward. When I was first in practice years ago, I worked in a group practice with him. He fixed me after a major car accident. I learned a lot from him. It's strange reading some of these reviews because I happen to know that he is a great adjuster. As I type this, I'm in a taxi taking my 94 year old dad to get adjusted. It's hard to take care of family, so I have other people, that I trust, work on them to make sure they get the best service possible. Dr. Ward is blunt and direct and humorous all at the same time. He doesn't hold back his opinion and delivers a quality adjustment. Why else would I (also a chiropractor) take time out of my day to taxi all the way uptown and trust my 94 year old dad in his hands. People should go to the practitioners they resonate with. For one thing, I know plenty of chiropractors in this city and he is one of the few that isn't afraid to get the job done. He is confident in his skills and many other chiropractors can't even move a single vertebrae without a song and dance. So I won't respond to the few disgruntled Groupon reviews. It took over 2 months to get an appointment with my Groupon, but it was SO worth the wait. Dr. Ward is extremely knowledgeable and professional. Unlike many other medical offices where they hustle you out as fast as they can after every appointment, at 44th St. Chiropractic they actually stop to explain the "how and why" of your treatment. Shawnee, the office manager, is extremely organized. When I've gotten there 5 min late, they've never acted upset, and when I've gotten there early, they make every effort to squeeze me in sooner instead of making me wait. The massage therapist, Jared, was fantastic. Very patient and calm, able to put you at ease and not make you feel self-conscious. Plus he's a Swedish Institute grad, so he knows his stuff. Every single person on staff smiles when you come in and seems genuinely happy to see you. Following my Groupon, I became a regular patient. After just 2 months of treatment, my hip injury from 15 years ago seems almost gone - I have regained full range of motion! Several previous chiropractors, LMTs and others health professionals helped me with different problems but I never had any improvement with the hip issue before going to Dr. Ward. My longtime neck and shoulder problems have disappeared, too. The shoulder feels stronger and more stable. I just wish I had known about this place sooner! Only complaint about this company is that although the restrooms are clean, the bathroom sink has the world's worst faucet (water barely trickles out). If you just want a massage, there are less expensive places with more flexible schedules (like every gym and spa in the city). There was no exam. he claimed my hips were uneven and that why I was having back problems, just from looking at me walking into his office. that was the exam. NO XRAY..NO PHYSICALLY EXAMANATION. He then jumped on my back, that was the adjustment...he laid me on some message bed. That was it. First and foremost, I'm not a review writer, this is actually the first review I write, and I write it ONLY because reading these other reviews almost made me cancel my appointment, and I'm so glad I didn't! I bought a Groupon deal for an evaluation + massage for 29 dollars and used it yesterday. I was very hesitant to even use it after reading these reviews, but I'm glad I did. I do agree that it was a little hard to get an appointment, I had to wait for almost three weeks, since they were fully booked. I also didn't like the fact that I can't be in touch through e-mail, only by calling, especially since I couldn't get a hold of anyone when calling the first time (I left a message and they called me back the next day). The day before my appointment someone called me to verify it and asked me to print out three forms and pre-fill them. They also asked me to be there at least 15 minutes prior to my appointment. I did as they asked me to, and when I got there, they also asked me to fill in a fourth form, that too about 5 minutes. After waiting 10 minutes I met Dr. Ward who took two x-rays of my back, one from the side and one from the back. I stood up against a white board, fully clothed, and the process took around 5 minutes. Dr Ward was super nice, and he told me that he'll talk to me again after the massage and then took me to the massage room, where I had my 60-minutes (best ever!) massage by Jared (or Jarod, not sure). He was super friendly and a super pro! The room was great, even though I could hear some talk from a loud patient from the next room for a little while. After my massage I met Dr. Ward again, he said I have a healthy spine, but that I have a little problem with my neck (a nerve that is wedged, which is also why I went there in the first place, since I've had some neck pain). He asked me to lay down on a bench on my stomach and he did some minor adjustments, four to my back and two to my neck and asked me to come back a few weeks later. I felt great afterwards (even though I was a bit sleepy after the massage). Dr. Ward was super professional and friendly. He also explained everything in a very professional manner (this was my first visit to a chiropractor) and I had a totally different experience compared to these other reviewers, which is also why I felt obliged to write this review. I can imagine, that there are problems if you arrive late (instead of arriving early, as they specifically ask you to) or if you don't have the forms prepared, since they take a while to fill in (about 15 minutes or so), but come on, how hard is that, really? I've been seeing Dr. Ward for several years now, and my husband has been a patient of Dr. Ward for almost 8. The negative comments I see don't line up with our experience here at all. (Seems like the pretty old "deal" reviews, anyhow. And I've found those online-reviews aren't honest depictions of those businesses.) I've seen Dr. Ward over the years for innumerable ailments. -He corrected an old spinal injury shown in my initial x-ray. -He helped my daughter "drop" in the last week of pregnancy, which helped our breech baby turn! -If I ever have a stiff neck (said daughter is now a toddler, so it happens more often than I'd like) and I am able to come in twice in a day, or two days in a row, I find my neck heals VERY quickly. -We brought our daughter in at 1 week old. She had some complications during labor and her misalignment was obviously helped by Dr. Ward's hands. During milestones/transitions (crawling, walking, after being ill...) we notice a better difference in her behavior and sleep patterns after she has been adjusted. -And for the adults: illnesses, snoring, stress-relief. The list goes on. They have accepted every insurance we have gone through over the years, and recently we've been impressed by their offering different "WELLNESS CLASSES", with a wide range of topics, which happen every month or so. Their office staff genuinely kind-hearted and are more like friends than any other NYC office I've ever known. I recommend this office to all my friends. My boyfriend finally got an appointment a week later and he said it was the best massage he had ever received! The office manager quickly followed up and provided the best customer service. My boyfriend said that its the best he has felt in years and that the Dr did an amazing job and worked on parts of him that had been injured for years! I worked with Dr. John Ward's office in early December 2017 to organize a massage day for my employees. The therapists were due in at 1:00 p.m. today and I received a phone call at 11:30 a.m. from Keisha at the doctor's office to cancel. She told me one of the therapists called out sick; we had booked two, so I asked if the remaining therapist could still come in. She told me schedules were all jumbled and the second therapist wouldn't be available either. This is so very unprofessional to cancel after almost two months of planning, a hour and a half before you are set to arrive. I have a disappointed office and no desire to reschedule or work with you again. read more

I went in with my groupon and on the first visit, he tells me from a x-ray that my nervous system isn't functioning well and that to correct it, I would need to see him twice a week for a year. On the form, I filled out insurance and his secretary would not stop bothering me for the info and wanted to call the insurance to make sure I can see him. First visit with Dr. Ward was easy, comfortable and relaxing! He took the time to talk to me, showed me my x rays and discussed my conditions in a very professional, yet friendly way. Dr. Ward had a calm demeanor which was helpful since I haven't seen a chiropractor for a few years. It's always a pleasure to visit Dr. Ward's office. His office hours are amenable to the most hectic of schedules and his staff is always willing to take that extra step to accommodate patients. I have been a patient for about a year and his treatments have helped my back immensely! His knowledge is not just limited to chiropractic care as he is also a nutritionist and is always willing to provide insight and advice regarding nutrition and holistic care. I also purchased a Groupon voucher many to get the massage. I was able to get a "canceled appointment" right away. The deep tissue massage was horrible. I was told to keep my clothing on, the woman yapped through the whole torture session, I did not get the entire hour and I was in severe pain the entire time. Ooh, i forgot. I was told to discontinue my medication for a medical disorder. By the massage therapist? I was bruised and swollen the next few days. The doctor then took x-rays? I never saw them so who knows if he did. I was told I have a pinched nerve and I can be cured. Terrible, horrible and unable. Never again! read more
