The other day, my automatic garage door would only raise about 3 feet. I immediately contacted Empire, as I and my mother (who owned this house prior to her death) have a long history of using their services for installation, service, and repair. That being said, it's been a really long time since I contacted them, and since I was just calling the phone number on the sticker they left in my/mom's garage,, I was a little worried they might not even be in business anymore. Fortunately, there was a message identifying them, and I left a message. I also texted the other number, as suggested on the recording. I heard back from Dominic one hour later, asking me to send photos of the inside of my garage door, top to bottom, and that he wanted to see if my springs were ok so I took close-ups of those. And that is EXACTLY what it turned out to be-a broken spring. He said he could have a technician there the next morning between 8-10am to measure (there was a fee, which was fine with me). He explained that the springs were replaced in pairs, because when one breaks, the other also will soon after. He quoted me what I thought was a fair price range (I was thankful on the day of installation that I was charged on the low end). The next morning , it was Dominic who was the technician, and I was pleased that he came early, around 8:30am to measure which was really fast. He also handled the installation two days later. He had given me a window of 9-10am, and arrived at 9:30. He was done in about 30 minutes. The entire time I dealt with Dominic, he was super professional, friendly, knowledgeable, organized and prompt. I wasn't sure what to expect, first time dealing with a much needed garage door. The frame to the door was not up to date and needed to be adjusted, I thought the costs would be exceedingly beyond my budget. Not at all!!!! Our church requested work and paid over $8,000 to get the work started. Covid has come and gone and over 3 years later Jared has said more than 4 times he would resolve our project but nothing has been done and no money refunded. Many attempts by our church to get something worthwhile for the money paid up front. My Liftmaster gate arm stopped working. Called out another company and they looked at the motherboard and told me it was fried and had me touch an area to show me how hot it was. They gave me a bid for a new motherboard at $1400 and full replaced option at $2800. I almost just replaced the system but decided to reach out on Yelp to different companies to get a 2nd and 3rd quote for replacement. The unit is about 8 years old. Empire came out the next day after I asked for a quote. The owner came out and actually started opening the unit up and checking the batteries. Once he confirmed they were still good he started to actually trouble shoot the unit and got it working, he then realigned the open/close programming and finished up. Total cost $125!!! Empire Garage Door and Gate - Motherboard that was "fried" yet diagnostic light and power lights were still working - Garage Door Services Near Me - Imperial Beach, California

I'm a property manager for a building in North Park. On 9/23 we reported an issue with one of our garage doors not closing as it was struck by a tenant. Apparently an "ivett" needed to be replaced and it took about 2.5 weeks before it came in from the manufacturer. Around 10/12 they came out to install it only to find out that it was faulty. Mind you the garage door would open, but had to be closed manually. Once they tried to install said faulty part, now the garage had to be manually opened and closed. This takes about 15 mins to do so which is a huge inconvenience. Nevertheless we wait patiently for the part to be ordered again. Here we are about 6 weeks later only to find out that they ordered the wrong part ‍ Not only has Empire failed to fix the garage in a timely manner, but also is not super responsive whenever we reach out for updates. Please save some time and a headache and look elsewhere. read more

John came out and replaced the aging uninsulated aluminum door with a high quality insulated door in about 4 hours. The new door is solid and quiet when opening and closing. After having a different company come out and tell us we were in need of a brand new motor for our garage door. We went out and purchased the motor, called them to set up install appointment, only to get stood up by the same company TWICE. My husband then contacted Empire garage door and gate. He was able to set up a next day appointment with a 9-10am window. John called when he was 30 minutes out and arrived promptly at 9am. He quickly realized that it wasn't the motor. The door just needed maintenance. Rather then charging us the cost of installing a new motor he only charged the service call charge of $78. Saving us time and money. Approximately a year ago I bought a garage door opener/clicker from them and recently I ended up loosing the clicker. So, I called them and Jared helped me reprogram the garage door clicker. I am not the most technologically savvy and was worried I wouldn't be able to do this. Would give more stars if possible. Live in a condo unit with a commercial garage door. Frozen finally for good. Called Jared a couple days ago telling him it was not acting right. Came over right away NO CHARGE checked it out said call me when it will not move then I can diagnose. So today frozen finally for good @ 5:45 pm called Jared left a message door frozen over and risk of open garage to public. Called me 2 min's later and said he'd be right there. 5 min here he is evaluating and fixing. Here for quite a long time and charged me better price then anyone I dealt with before. Poor Communication. Gave the benefit of the doubt that he was busy. Even gave an opportunity to name his time; wasn't in a hurry. Called seven (7) times. Third time, I receive an answer. Said he was in Home Depot and would call back. 2-days later. I called again. We set appointment time for Tuesday, 3/29/2016, between 3-5 pm. Called to confirm that afternoon. He said he would try to get there later and would call 30-minutes before; NO SHOW. Called 2-days later to see what happened/re-scheduled; it's Fri. (4/1/2016). I think he's a one man show. Electronic answering service/machine. Called after hours and it says their closed, but, for emergencies, leave a message; couldn't leave a message. It kept saying the same thing over and over. As much as I tried to work with him (good yelp reviews in 2015?) I CANNOT RECOMMEND. read more

Who carries a part for a garage door made in the 70s? No one does. After calling around to different garage door repair shops to find my part, I was referred to Empire by a wholesale distributor. Sky took my call. I described the part I was looking for. She said she would be happy to order it for me. I sent in a photo of the part. Within a few mins I was told that the part was too old and couldn't be ordered, but if I could wait they could get me the part off an old garage door. The price: Free! I called Jared at Empire Garage Door & Gate after he was recommended by others who advertise here on Yelp. He charged me $78 to call Genie garage door customer service to troubleshoot my issue, something I have done many times before. After asking me to provide my credit card info over the phone for billing Jared tried to convince me to buy and let him install a brand new garage door opener. To top it all off, I received an invoice for services with a bogus or non-existent email address for the company. Zero stars is my rating. read more

We phoned Jared for service on Friday sept 26/2014. His service man came by that night and diagnosed the problem. He said that we need a new door which will cost us $750. Only 2 panels were bad so we ask him how much each panel would cost. He said the office is already closed and has no idea how much. He said he will call us first thing Monday for the price. Monday came and no one called. We called Tuesday and Wednesday leaving messages and NO ONE bothered to call us back.
