Chanced upon the Emporium Fulton Market while we were waiting for our table at Au Cheval. We figured that we could waste some time and the Emporium was the perfect place. It had drinks and it had games! The place was a decent size and they had some change machines for you to get quarters from. Most games that they had only required a quarter while some required two. It definitely took us down memory lane with games like pac man, mortal, and teenage ninja mutant ninja turtles. They also had some pinball machines as well. My boyfriend and I were excited to end our night here and were having a great time until the rudest, most entitled employee decided to give us attitude for a random stool we did not move. The fact that he rolled his eyes, talked to us like we were stupid, and assumed we were the ones who MOVED A STOOL to the pinball area when it was already there when we arrived around 11:45pm genuinely baffled me. ROLL BACK THE SECURITY FOOTAGE IF YOU DONT BELIEVE US. We even tried to make conversation with him while he checked our ID's when we arrived but it makes sense why no one wanted to speak to him after dealing with his attitude and the discomfort of him staring at us almost the entire time we were there. I would have recommended this as a place as a go-to or a must-visit but I would HIGHLY suggest ANYONE reading this to find somewhere else to go. This place is super cool! It's filled with a bunch of retro arcade games. There's OG games, air hockey, pool tables, skee ball, pinball machines, and more. In order to play games you insert cash into a machine and it will dispense tokens for you to use. We put in $10 and it lasted us a long time. It was pretty busy but it wasn't too crowded where you can't get around or have to wait so long to play games, but we did go at an earlier time. We came across Emporium while we were walking off our brunch and figured we'd go in. The space is pretty huge. We came in on a Saturday and it was kind of packed and there was a birthday party going on at the same time. If you're familiar with arcades, they pretty much had all the classics you could think of: NBA Jam, 2 Mortal Kombats, air hockey, skee ball, and tons of pinball machines. Even a photo booth that we used! That's not everything but it was a lot of stuff. They ran on a token system so make sure you bring cash to use in their machines. The bar had lots of different options and had a pretty solid amount of beer offerings too. The prices were pretty standard but I believe they had a beer of the month deal too. We came back when we were in the area on a weeknight and it was a lot more laid back and less hectic than the weekends so keep that in mind. It seems like its a 21 and older spot based on their ID checks at the door. It was a great place to spend a lot of time for not too much money (not including drinks of course). While idc what they do in their spare time so I didn't mind the smell, I do care about partying with a bunch of underage kids. Wandering around the Fulton Market area in the afternoon after exploring the Time Out Markets, I changed upon a familiar name: Emporium. Familiar, because I live near an arcade bar called Emporium in Oakland, CA, attached to the Fox Theater. A quick chat with the bartender confirmed my suspicions - this location, the Oakland Emporium, and even the SF Emporium are all affiliated. I ended up ordering one drink as part of my weekend afternoon bar hopping. The Yippe-Kay-yay, at $13, featured rum, tamarind, galliano, lime, and Sichuan Baijiu / 四川白酒. 白酒 is certainly not for the faint of heart, with its proof generally over 100 and a flavor profile euphemistically described as "acquired" and described by a friend as "what the hell is this why does this exist". Nonetheless, as someone familiar with it, I like the cocktail. It does not attempt to fight the nuanced flavors; instead it mellows out the burn, preserving the flavors, and adding a citrus contrast. read more

Just came from having dinner at Kumas and my peeps were in the mood for some dranks. I love barcades because it eliminates that awkwardness that exists between a group of people who want to hang out yet dont really know much about each other yet. My group bonded over a game of foosball. Gotts love the camaraderie that this little table game provides and establishes. The arcade selection at this one is not as extensive as the one in Logan Square, nor the one at Wicker Park. There were a few pinball games, old school games such as Galaga, and couple tables of air hockey, foosball, and a couple pool tables as well. They have a skeeball machine though that I have not seen at the other locations. Overall, not a bad bar. Such a fun spot! Lots of older arcade games to try. I saw reviews saying a lot of the games were out of service. Personally, I didn't have a problem with this when I went! Lots of different pinball machines to try, but my favorite games were air hockey and skee ball. Also, the games weee very reasonably priced! I want to like this place because I love arcade bars, but it's just not functional. Went here a little before 9pm on a Thursday night (start of NFL season) so there was a decent crowd. Drunks were fine, reasonably priced, and the bartenders were good. My main issue with this place is that the games are broken, and I know other people feel this way too. We went to NBA Jam and saw that there were always credits in it and seemed to have been abandoned by whoever was last playing it. When we went to play, we realized why...the joysticks were unresponsive for half of them as were the buttons. This would be a theme to come. The Sopranos pinball machine wouldn't start up and one of the other pinball machines had an unresponsive flipper. Burger Time's joystick wasn't working great, and House of the Dead's shotgun wouldn't reload or let you play 2 player. When we tried air hockey, the pick wouldn't come out and was stuck in the machine. This doesn't include the 5 or so games that already had an "Out of Order" paper taped to them or just not turned on yet. The games need to be fixed, otherwise there's no reason to visit, especially with other arcade bars in Chicago with games that DO work. read more
