This is a cute little western store located downtown. I've always driven past on the way to my favorite coffee shop, but never actually been inside until today. I was in a semi-desperate search of a T-shirt. They had a very limited selection. I wasn't greeted upon arrival nor asked if I needed help. I only did a lap around the women's department, I'm sure I was in there less than 5 minutes, but again that's mainly because they didn't have much of what I was looking for. I'll definitely stop by in the future to take a look at their other products when I'm not I. Such a rush. read more

Very frustrating experience at this store. Showed up and there was three people inside the store, two employees (I think they were employees, at least one was) and one other customer who was shopping. We were completely ignored in the store - nobody greeted us or asked if we needed help. The employees (who we weren't even sure were employees) are too busy with their own conversation to be bothered. Hung out by the cowboy hats, as we were looking to get several new hats fitted. Nothing. By that time boyfriend had found a baseball hat he wanted to buy, so we went to the register. Credit card machine wasn't working, so we couldn't even buy the consolation prize. Asked at the register if the hat fitter was in and the cashier's response was a disinterested "she's in now." No follow up or asking if we would like to see her. We just left without purchasing anything, because apparently even if we were able to get hats fitted we wouldn't of been able to purchase them. Right after we left we saw the one other customer leave the store empty handed as well. Very disappointed considering how excited we were to get new hats. A sweet lady did say goodbye to us outside when we were leaving, which was the most interaction we had with any employee. If only she has been inside because it seemed like she was the only one interested in interacting with customers. read more

The Emporium is my go-to store for everything Western. Whether I'm buying a pair of boots to stomp around in the branding pen or a black felt hat for a Friday night dance. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They show you a variety of styles. On more than one occasion they told me how to care for a product to make it last longer. I don't know how they keep such a wide selection of jeans, shirts, boots, and belts. Whatever you are looking for you can find it here. I got me a new straw hat. There were so many styles to choose from, it took me 30 minutes to find the one that was just right. read more

Was going to go grab some lunch and then go shopping here for a pair of boots for my husband but the second I parked in their parking lot and was walking to go grab a quick bite to eat across the street (I'm currently 6 months pregnant so I was hungry and needed food first) I was yelled at in the parking lot by an employee. She kept complaining to me about people parking in their parking lot and not shopping there and kept asking me to move my car. I kept telling her I was just grabbing a quick bite to eat and then would be in to do some shopping but she kept arguing with me. I had every intention of spending money and this store but I didn't even get a chance to step foot in the store and now have no intention of shopping there. I would've understood if the parking lot was full but right next to where I parked there were 4 open spaces! Unbelievable. read more

I was in town for a concert at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace. I had just driven 4.5 hours from up North and got to my hotel around 5PM. I called to check if Ronda was in, as I had heard she was a great hat shaper and I had brought a very nice American felt with me for shaping before the show. I was told Ronda was there but she cuts the steamer 15 til close and they closed at 6PM. Luckily my hotel was 10 minutes away so I bolted over. When I arrived, she was with another customer and said she'd be with me after. By the time she was done it must've been 5:40. We talked a bit about what I wanted and I told her I drove a far ways and was hoping she'd be able to shape it. She looked at the time and waved it off, told me she'd take care of me. "You drove a long way!" She said and smiled. Ronda was amazing. Super nice, friendly, and positive. The hat came out amazing, and I smile every time I put it on. What a great trip, and a great memory this hat will hold forever! THANK YOU RONDA! And thank you Emporium, for keeping these traditions alive! After 5 months of waiting, calling and doing my best to be patient with the owner Steve at the emporium western store, I finally received a hat that that I purchased will probably the last felt one I ever need. It's an American 100x black felt with a banded edge and a ribbon hatband. This will go great with my suit and my alligator caiman boots. My daughter found her favorite wranglers in the perfect size and wash. Some gorgeous Tony Lama boots on sale. Just yesterday we found ourselves on a trip into Bakersfield. My daughter was opening for a country band at the Fox theater. I had heard about the Emporium and decided we needed to kill some time and check it out! It did not disappoint. What a beautiful store with amazing customer service. Great place. Good inventory, friendly folks, fair prices. Big store with lots of boots, jeans, shirts, hats, leather goods, you name it. Need a hat band glued on or a hat reshaped? This is the place. I checked them out on a recent trip to Bakersfield after having intended to do so for years. It's a big place with lots of stuff. The lady who helped me was friendly and helpful without being pushy. I ordered a hat by phone and it came destroyed and they still sent a reply to my credit card company saying I knew animals would get into my package. I have had my account at citibank for over 20 years and have never challenged any deliveries or charges that were not fraudulent. I called to ask for another hat and Rhonda asked me for a credit card. I am in the service business and would never treat a customer that way. I am now going to send them back what is left of my hat by mail and will send to Citibank to show them the hat was returned so I can get my credit on my card. Unbelievable. read more

Wanted to contribute to a small, local, business owner so I chose Emporium Western. The store is located in downtown Bakersfield in a pretty seedy part of town. I was excited to check out the store as I had heard good things about the selection of western wear and the great prices. I walked in and was never greeted even though there were two gentlemen at the counter, neither of whom were too busy to say "welcome in." I almost walked out as it was evident that my business wasn't needed. The hat section caught my attention and I stayed, I was looking for a Stetson hat and was sure I was going to find one. I remembered watching an Instagram video of a very friendly lady measuring and customizing hats to fit your head perfectly. I walked to the back of the store and was greeted by two sweet ladies who totally turned my experience around. The hat customizing lady was busy with two customers but she took a few seconds, smiled and said hello. Micky, the gal who assisted me, was super friendly, knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. Thankfully, she measured my head size and helped me find the perfect hat! Kudos to these two ladies for being the gems of the store. It appeared that life lived in the back of the store. I suggest having a front store person that knows how to smile and say hello. The Emporium is as fine as cream gravy, and ace-high. If your a dude or dudette and hankerin to git yerself some the best bib and tucker for an evenin of bendin the elbow or hittin up the doxology the emporium is the place to be. Don't expect to pay through the nose here though, all the real deal grangers and cowboys shop here. From the real deal western shirts of Rockmount, Panhandle Slim, Pendleton, to the short sleeve pearl snapped work shirts. Good ol dungarees and twill slacks. Hand tooled leather belts that can be personalized to the big ol dinner plate buckles. Not to mention a dam fine selection of Hats and Boots. While out of the way in downtown, if your hankerin for the real deal mosey on over and take a gander. Oh and they do have a selection for the ladies. So remember according to Hoyle this place is the real deal. read more

I hadn't been in the store for many years. When I first moved to Bakersfield in 1984 I bought boots a hat and a cowboy shirt. I was told I needed those to fit in. :-) Now after all those years I returned to find the same wonderful service. I spoke to a man in the hat department who after I told him I bought my Stetson at the store many years ago, wore it twice and it is been in the box on the shelf ever since, said bring it in we will block it for you.
