4.5*s I recently sampled Empyrean's excellent food again for the first time in a while and could not believe how long I had waited to partake in their delicacies. The vegetarian Samosas were not the largest individually, but the appetizer included a generous 3 of them. The Garlic Tikka included large cubes of tender chicken that had been marinated in garlic, freshly ground spices, and lemon juice before being roasted in the tandoor oven. The dish had always been one of my go-to's, and its flawless execution just reaffirmed that decision. The yellow Tadka Dal was rich and soupy, but could have used a touch less salt. I also sampled a new dish, the Delhi Punjabi Chole, which contained chickpeas cooked in a spiced gravy utilizing Punjabi masalas. The filling dish in savory gravy was divine and a clear new favorite. As usual, the accompanying rice was perfectly-cooked to a light fluff. Lastly, each flaky piece of the bread basket was excellent, no matter if it was a slice of Garlic or Plain Naan, or the Onion Kulcha. I used to enjoy coming to this restaurant, but unfortunately the quality has gone down a lot. This time, the food was nowhere near as good as before. Everything was very oily, and it felt like they are using too much artificial color in the dishes now, which really affected the taste and presentation.The service was also disappointing. In the past, if there was an issue, we could at least talk to someone and they would try to fix it. There were even times before when they replaced a dish without any problem. This time, no one seemed available or willing to take care of customers at all.Overall, the experience keeps getting worse each time I visit. Ordered again from here recently via a delivery app. Steamed chicken momo is still good, paneer tikka (tandoori grilled) was also still tasty, but given the price ($23) I really wish there was more quantity. Mango lassi was good, standard. I ordered the mulligatawny soup because it is basically a healthy daal--it was unexpectedly lemony (they had a half lemon submerged in it too) but pretty good. The shrimp curry was not as I expected given the description of it being made with coconut milk (different than the coconut shrimp curries I'm used to & I didn't enjoy it as much) and at $25 should have had much more shrimp in relation to the curry amount. Like there was more than half of the container still full of the curry after the shrimp was eaten, that I just threw away & I hate wasting. I still like Empyrean well enough, but the taste of some of the dishes are hit or miss, and with how overpriced it is, it's not surprising I don't order more often. read more

Had the -samosa chaat (4/5 friend ordered, he said it was good. I placed a pickup order through UberEats and it was ready right on time. The Butter Chicken looked different than any other I've had. It was more orange and had green spices/seasonings which was unusual in a Butter Chicken. It was also a bit spicy which I didn't mind but it wasn't the flavor profile I was expecting. The Paneer Tikka Masala had delicious flavor and possibly one of the better tikka masalas I've had. All the flavors were nicely balanced - it wasn't too tomatoey or too sweet. The paneer was also firm and tasty. The Garlic Naan was delicious and went well with both dishes we got. They only gave us one order of rice which I wasn't sure was assumed to be split among the 2 orders (which are both supposed to come with rice). We ordered via Doordash and the food was still steaming when it arrived. The Tikka Masala Paneer was one of the best that I've had. If you're a whiskey lover then this one is the drink for you with a hint of ginger, fresh mint and cucumber. My friend ordered "Somrus mango martini". A drink with its own taste, not a fan but it was okay! Coming to appetizers, ordered delicious steamed veg momos. Try this for sure if you're visiting this kitchen. For the main course ordered Tandoori roti and Paneer Kaju Makhani. Tried this combination for the first time and it was tasty. If you'll order medium it will be a bit sweeter however, you can go for the spicy one. The rice is provided on the side with curry! The ambience is perfect. Service was excellent and friendly. We went here for a quick Lunch on Saturday Afternoon. We have heard about this restaurant for a long time but hadn't tried it out. We came around 3 PM and didn't know that the kitchen will close at 3:30 PM and reopen at 5 PM. We felt a bit rush as the waitress ask us to order. They were trying to be helpful but I felt a little bit off about the experience. Fortunately, we looked through the menu beforehand so we knew exactly what we want. The food is ok, 4/5. We ordered Chili Chicken, Garlic Naan, and Goat Rogan Josh. The Chicken was crispy outside and tender inside, and the sauce was good. The Goat Rogan Josh is a must. The meat was tender and flavorful. The naan gave out a buttery fragrance, which was amazing. However, the taste was not as good as expected. The naan paired well with the Goat curry dish. We felt that the food was not at the level of other good Indian restaurants, hence, we only gave this restaurant a 4 over 5. Would recommend ordering these dishes. The table service was excellent. The staff was very attentive and thoughtful. They also served complimentary Papadum (lentil Crackers) with 2 different types of Chutney (tamarind) before the meal, which was a win in our minds. The vibe and the service fix with a high-end restaurant, which the price is higher compared to other Indian restaurants. However, the portion was small which made the food even more expensive. For those who love their food spicy, it is often hard to know the scale to let the servers know how spicy you desire. We have tried Indian medium in one restaurant prior and it ended up way too spicy for us. So we told the server of this restaurant we will go for an Indian mild. The food was not spicy at all. Good enough for the Hoboken area. I really wanted to like it, but I thought the flavor and quality was lacking especially with the price. I definitely think this place is popular because it is one of the very few indian restaurants in the Hoboken area. I just wish the flavors weren't disappointing. We ordered the steamed chicken momos and were told that they would take long, however the dish didn't. They came in a little dry and I am convinced they maybe microwaved them to speed up the heating process. I think the best thing we got was the chili garlic naan, which was the perfect crunch. We also ordered the chicken tikka and it was average, I've definitely had better masalas in the past. Overall, I give the food 2/5. I don't think I would come back here unless I was really craving for Indian food and couldn't travel to JC. We came in walk-in on a busy Friday night and they even were able to accommodate us, which I really appreciated. Everything came out really fast. I give service 5/5. Cute place in Hoboken for a dinner date with friends. Sushma was our server, she was professional and friendly and shared good recommendations when requested. For drinks I had the Indian Jaljeera, it's a refreshing drink with lemon and salt tones, was pretty good and the presentation was fabulous. For appetizers we had Fried paneer momo and paneer tikka. The appetizers were tasty fresh and flavorful, they knocked the ball out of the back on that one. However they did drop the ball on the entrées. We had the salt paneer and the paneer cut hi, both up to the flat in flavors, we didn't enjoy it as much and hence the rating. We will come back to this restaurant but only for appetizers and drinks.
