    Patatas bravas
    Rebecca A.

My goodness I love it here. The service is always great, the food is always delicious. Who doesn't love consistency? The patatas bravas were insanely good, took me back to my time in Madrid! I had the stir fry which was wonderful and vegetarian friendly. My partner had the short rib which he loved. My only note, the focaccia bread appetizer was cold, I will probably skip this next time (as I have a small rule focaccia is always best hot :))

En Rama is a gem tucked into the heart of Tacoma that absolutely delivers when it comes to inventive, soulful cuisine and a cozy, elevated atmosphere. From the first bite to the last sip, this place hits all the right notes. Pozole Pasta. That's the dish. And it's as incredible as it sounds. House-made garganelli pasta tangled in a rich, cheesy sauce with tender chicken thighs braised in guajillo, arbol, and cascabel peppers. It's got depth, warmth, and just the right amount of kick. The hominy adds that nostalgic pozole texture, the pickled radish gives it pop and acidity, and the crispy chicken skin? Game changer. Topped with cotija and fresh herbs, this dish is bold, comforting, and completely unforgettable. En Rama nails the balance of inventive and familiar. The space is warm and intimate, the cocktails are thoughtful and balanced, and the service is friendly without being overbearing. If you haven't been, go. This place isn't just one of Tacoma's best--it's a destination. If you're in Tacoma and haven't been to En Rama yet, you're missing out on one of the city's most inspired dining experiences.

    Pimento cheese - IG @bougiefoodieboi

Nice cozy cocktail bar serving American food in downtown Tacoma. This place is actually pretty popular, on a Friday the tables are fully booked but they do leave the bar seats for first come first served. We went around 6pm and was told a 20-30 min wait and leave my phone number to call when a table is ready, but we actually got seated in 6 min which is a win in my books. We were in a rush as we solely went here for quick food and drinks before going to Thunderdome in Tacoma Dome nearby, and everything came out fast and service is great. We got the pimento cheese and chimichurri bruschetta. These were "light bites" but these 2 dishes were enough for a meal based on portion size. The pimento cheese itself is excellent, and I loved the grilled onions that were included. I am never a fan of pickled vegetables but they do pair nicely with the dish. The bread is toasted nicely. The chimichurri bruschetta is quite hearty too, but pricing is not as worthwhile as the pimento cheese. The filling is not as generous and there were only 3 slices of bread. However, this dish was still delicious, but I would not opt to get it again. Cocktails here were decent. They were somewhat inventive, and I particularly liked the Smokey OF that we got. The other one, La Poire, is decent, but lacks volume. I wished they didn't hastily present the drinks to us, as we saw them smoking the drink, but they lifted the barrier out before we even got a chance to take a video or photo properly. The downside was the ventilation is not the best. We left smelling like grilled onions, so I advise to not wear the most expensive clothes yet the ambience is quite classy.

We had such a great dinner. A friend and I came here for my early birthday dinner. I picked this place because they had a vegan entree and several small plates. The restaurant is intimate with dimmed lighting. The tables have candles, and there was unique Christmas decor that was so thoughtful and interesting. We ordered the marinated olives, house-made focaccia, and broccolini to start. The olives had a flaky sea salt that was right up our alley. The focaccia was baked with rosemary and whole cloves of garlic. The broccolini was crispy and spicy from the red pepper flakes. They were all delicious. I got the vegan pasta (I can't remember the name of it, and it wasn't the same one that was on their website menu). It had a vegan cream sauce and oyster mushrooms. It was fantastic. My friend got the mussels and love them. We got a couple mocktails: Seasonal Brush and Hibiscus Mule. Both were very tasty. Our server was attentive, quick, and friendly. We will definitely return!

We had a yummy time, enjoying the food and service from the kitchen and the bartender James. He made some pretty amazing cocktails! Even introduced us to an orange wine, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The oysters were fresh and accompanied by a citrus mignonette which was a new twist for me ( I do prefer a raspberry but this was also delish). I enjoyed the crab pasta salad which was filling as an entree for me. He enjoyed the burger and fries. I didn't get much of a look around the place, it was small and low lit, but there were three tables open and some seats at the bar. We were offered bar seats, the host stated they had reservations on them but we stayed until close and no one ever came nor did he offer to move us after two courses and several rounds. I did deduct points there for a poor hosting experience, unfortunately. Outside the restaurant was an interactive art installment ... a slug that you can sit under and hear "watery" sounds haha. That was the highlight of the night aside from the great bartender banter and service.

    Charcuterie board (11/2022)

This place is very special to me and my boyfriend. For our 1st anniversary, we ate here! It's a small place but they have incredible food! Our first time/first anniversary here, we had a conversation with an old couple that noted our energy towards one another which was special to remember! So you do meet many people who will sit next to you since the seats are close together but not too much that it feels like personal space invasion lol. My boyfriend loves the charcuterie board they have. We've had their pasta dishes which are delish! Recently we came back the weekend after Valentine's Day and had their pimento cheese with bread and pickled veggies. We got so much pimento cheese that we brought it back home! En Rama is tucked in the old post office/ courthouse so when you walk in, it will be to your right. They have these nice big ball light fixtures centered one by one in the lobby entrance before you head in to the restaurant. The old post office/ courthouse holds its historical presence. They also have an outdoor patio area, which I believe has heated lamps. They also had a very cozy playlist of music going. Recommend calling -- since reservations are a must, they usually book out in advance. Service has been great! Definitely recommend!

This was our second time eating here. I made reservations online to eat inside, not knowing they didn't have air conditioning on a 95° day. That was totally my bad, and the heat made the whole experience challenging. The air was pretty stifling and we sweated our way through the meal. The service was great again and so was the food. I had the risotto with chorizo (so good!) and my BF had the short rib ragu (also delish). The drinks were just okay this time. I don't drink alcohol so I had the hibiscus mule mocktail. It was okay. My boyfriend had their margarita though and oddly it has sherry in it, which he felt made the drink taste like vinegar. We probably wouldn't order either of those again. Great food here, but we'd have enjoyed it on a much cooler evening had we known. We'll be back in the fall.

Came here for my birthday dinner with the husband. It was great overall, and I'm really glad we chose En Rama for the delicious food and service. Inside is quite small and not very intimate - and after an 88 degree day, it was still warm at 7pm, but not super hot as we were seated by the patio door. (Covered patio looked expansive and comfortable!) BUT we could hear the entire conversation of the 2 seated very close to us... a 1st date. :) The girl was very into it, lots of laughing! Haha. Times like this I'm glad to be old and married... Service was great. Takes awhile to be greeted, but they are clearly slammed and at full capacity* on a Sat night. Once we ordered everything came out quickly with personable service. BREAD - A+, pull-apart soft goodness with whipped butter PASTA - B+, Made from scratch, great flavors (I wanted more cheesy) BURGER - A-, smash burger w/ 2 patties (they were out of fries unfortunately but salad was fresh) BREAD PUDDING - $12, super good but we were so full! I love when a restaurant boxes up your leftovers FOR you. Recommend getting a reservation - they do 5pm, 7pm, and 9pm seatings. Not a good place for a large group unless you call far in advance.

Very mid experience for my first time here. We had a reservation, so getting seated wasn't too big of a deal. The staff and workers were friendly and apologetic, but it took FOREVER for our food to come out. It almost made me question if they forgot about us. I am pretty sure we waited like 45 minutes to an hour for our food. The food we ordered was okay, but not really worth the wait especially if you are hungry. I would consider coming back again since it looks like the menu changes every now and then.

    Menu

What a neat find. The place is a small and quaint venue. We were here around 3:30 so seating was not a problem. The waitstaff was knowledgeable and pleasant. We asked for suggestions on the menu and chose the burger over the charcuterie. Our happy hour cocktails were well crafted and well presented. The Romesco dip was the weak link. Flavor was average and the crudete was disappointing. The En Rama burger made up for the dip. It was messy and delicious. The patas bravado served with were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Definitely a place worth going to.

We came in 13 mins after they opened, I told him we needed a table for 5 he said okay in a cheerful voice and the moment my fiancé came inside with my 4 year old niece his whole demeanor changed and with zero hesitation he said they were fully booked and set the menus back down. In the photo you can see that they were completely empty and had several tables that could seat 5. We also walked a little and passed this location on two separate occasions once within an hour of being turned away and the second was several hours after and they had room on both occasions. They clearly are not kid friendly, but for future reference, just allow people to know that you are not a kid friendly establishment instead of blaming it on space! Very disappointing experience

En Rama is a Top 10 restaurant of Tacoma, no doubts about it. The menu is seasonal and prone to change. I've never ordered something I didn't love. I still think about an ox tail pasta I had here years ago, the best dang meal I've ever had in my life, I dream with that pasta. The only issue is how crowded it can get. The restaurant is cozy and small. It's definitely not the place to be if you're trying to stay socially distant (unless the outside patio is open). The last time I went in, my table was located right outside the kitchen. My clothes smelled like grease by the end of the night. If you are a foodie, En Rama is a must.

Can they accommodate food allergies that are not major parts of their menu? I have an uncommon allergy.

I would have you contact them. They are very nice but they have a limited rotating menu so they might be able to find something that works

    Is this place 21+?

    Indoor 21+ Outdoor all ages!

Are there very many vegetarian options?

    Around half the menu.

    Are the braised chickpeas vegetarian?

    Yes

Would you consider it casual or dressy? I'm not very dressy, fyi.

I don't think you would feel out of place there in jeans. It's the sort of place that if your event is fancy, it would feel like a fun setting but if you're stopping in for casual drinks, that would feel right too.

    Anything gluten free available?

They have a few veggie sides, salads, charcuterie (just do everything but the bread/crackers). They do have a few pictures of their menu on here too for better ideas!

Anyone know if they serve absinthe? Thanks

Yes. Absolutely. They likely have many types of Absinthe!

The biggest issue, though, was the pasta itself -- gummy and overcooked, not al dente. Preschooler was asleep in my arms, but we made it work. We ordered: 1 rose cider (sweet but not too sweet), 1 pulpo (grilled octopus!) starter, 1 boscaiola pasta for the preschooler (boxed leftovers), 1 spring ravioli (more Italian name), and 1 rabbit with polenta entree. Each main came with salad and meal started with bread and whipped butter. We were offered a kid menu option of pasta with alfredo, marinara, or bolognese sauce, but opted for normal menu so we could bring back leftovers. We loved the pulpo and the salads (they offered to box up the preschoolers salad since she was still sleeping). Kid enjoyed the bread. Bit of a wait for mains but nothing out of the ordinary. That says something about the management/owners, right? It feels good to support a restaurant that doesn't treat its employees like fearful minions! The restaurant itself is lovely. It's clean, nicely decorated, unassuming and comfortable for either dressing up for date night and vino, or dropping in wearing jeans for pizza and beer (I mean, so to speak - we don't drink... did I mention the n/a Amici punch is delicious?). My only caveat is I've got a sweet tooth so I'd love to see them expand their dessert collection! Special kudos to John, a server in his early 60s. He took great care of us the first time we went there, and we make a special point to say hi to him every time we visit. He always remembers us! Suffice it to say, we will be going back. When we remember our monthly "nicer" date nights, we go to Amici's.

Seating is limited, but the bar is fully stocked! We ordered the chicken caesar salad and the Lil Saigon Sliders. The salad was fresh and crunchy, chicken well seasoned and tender, and the caesar dressing was BOMB! But those sliders..... WOW. The sliders bring everything you love about a banh mi to a mini slider that is the perfect snack size (although, they were so good we ended up ordering another) Our waitress was super kind and helpful with ordering, even suggesting a cocktail that was delicious. I can't stop thinking about how surprisingly good everything was and I cannot wait to come back for more!

The waitress even mentioned it was hot in this room and when we commented on it she just said yeah it sucks. I have Celiac so this is not a dietary choice, it's a medical restriction. I asked about gluten free options and she said nothing is gluten free (even though the website says it gluten free options available). She then said the best option for me would be the mushrooms or the wings because they are lightly breaded and she is gluten free and does well with those. We paid for our drinks and left. I won't be coming back and it's not because of the menu.
