Been here a few times for when my normal stylist cannot see me and have had Silva do my hair. Just have been here for root touch ups and blow dry. Was charged $55 for that which is around the same as my regular stylist (my regular stylist is $65 for the same thing but she throws in toner). Only thing was last time I went she tried to charge me double saying because I hadn't been there in awhile that she would need to use more product. That pissed me off because going from $55 to $95 seemed excessive. I was able to get her to charge me the normal rate, but it did annoy me since I felt it was gorging. In any case, it gets the job done for basic, no thrills touch ups. read more

Encino Concept Salon is a nice salon in Rubio Plaza located at the northeast intersection of Rubio and Ventura Blvd. The salon is located towards the back where there are plenty of free parking spaces in their lot. The owner/manager is very accommodating... including, and especially, the esthetician Veronica. We were having problems finding a time that would be convenient for both their esthetician and myself so they came up with a creative solution. Veronica made it pretty much painless. One time, I couldn't find a babysitter in time for my appointment so I brought them. I gave them a video to watch in one of the salon chairs during my "behind-the-curtain" session and the manager allowed it. So grateful! I would also like to mention, though it has been years ago, that I received a facial (and back facial) from here and it left me glowing, smooth, moisturized and acne/inflammation free for my special event. Although I really can't tell you who performed the service for me. I also received a Swedish massage from here but I didn't get the masseuse's name. It was really good though. read more

It wasn't the poorly repaired broken mirrors, it wasn't the unswept floors, not even the hair stuck to the dripped wax on the restroom sink. What sent me running was the customer coming out of the facial before me looking as if she'd been in a total cat fight. Then the receptionist telling her how great her skin looked! Bought a Groupon for a facial for a steal. With all the choices that Groupon offered, I chose this salon because of the reviews and the fact that they used Aveda products. I have very sensitive skin and had never gotten a facial before because of the fear of my skin having a reaction. Hearing very good things about Aveda products from friends, I decided to take the chance. When I got to the store, there was a sign at the door addressed to me saying that Lina, my facialist will unlock the door at 4:15pm - my appointment time. Looking down at my watch, it was 4:20pm and Lina was nowhere to be found. She finally shows up from inside and I found out that she was finishing up on an appointment before mine. She apologizes for the wait and quickly cleans up the room for my turn. The facial itself? Since I have no prior reference, I'll simply describe what Lina had done. (I also mentioned to her that it was my first time and she gladly explained every step of the process) She used a cleanser, vapor and scrub before doing extractions. I don't believe she used any tools for the extractions, all I can remember was the pressure and pain. She then used a toner, a simple mask and some light zapper thingy to kill the bacteria for pimples after the extractions. After, my skin felt nice and smooth but I had a bunch of swelling in the spots where I had pimples. Overall, it was a good experience. Lina was very accomodating to ALL of my questions as well as knowledgeable about my sensitive skin condition and about the products that I am currently using. She recommended the Aveda toner that she had used during the facial and I decided to try out a bottle (so far so good!). I liked my experience so much that I decided to purchase another 3 sessions for the same price they offered on Groupon! read more

One of the more successful Groupon stories. The place is somewhat hard to find and definitely needs a cosmetic lift (no pun intended), but a nice option in the valley. I came in for a haircut & style, which were good (minus some dandruff I later discovered, but the styling was nice) & an eyebrow wax (done really well.) The only thing was that their website said that it was $15 & I was charged $17. I don't mind the $2 difference but that's false advertising & not fair. I got my eyebrows done here by Lina and they look AMAZING! She did such a wonderful and thorough job that when she told me of the facial special that they have (facial and massage for $99) I booked one right away! It was sooo amazing! All of the products they used were very soothing and great for my skin. They did this paprika treatment that made my skin tingly but got blood circulating better on my face and she took out all my blackheads ( I had a TON of them) and the massage was blissful! I purchased a groupon for a massage (done by Dan) and absolutely loved it. I arrived for my appointment earlier than expected and I was taken in quickly afterwards--no waiting around, no delays, which I loved. My massuese made sure I was comfortable every step of the way in regards to pressure, WHERE i was ok being touched, and actually gave me an additional hand/arm massage even after my full hour was done. How often does that happen? I felt like I got extra special treatment which is why we all go to a salon anyways! :) On top of it, I felt like I was drooling and nodding off because I got so comfortable! I bought a Groupon for a facial and was seen within a week. The only true negative to me about this place is the "look." It's kind of old, worn down, that kind of thing. Not a posh, relaxing spot by any means. However, everything else makes up for it. I believe Veronica was the name of the woman that gave me my facial. Now, I did ask ahead of time if the Groupon included extractions. She said yes. And extractions were performed. After reading some other reviews, it may be wise to mention that so they don;t "skip" that part. But I had no issues at all. I really loved that no matter what steps she was on, I was never just "Waiting". She always was multitasking....if my face was steaming, she was massaging my shoulders. If a peel was setting, she was massaging my hands. That type of thing. I've had many facials where they say "Ok, steam for 15 minutes." And they just leave the room. I really do not like to write this kind of review for any independent stores, but also do not understand why business owners would sabotage their own business by treating customers the way Silva did with my wife. I bought a Groupon voucher for my wife last year, which she used for a Brazilian blow out and was happy with it. Silva asked her not to buy Groupon any longer and deal with her directly, which my wife did. She went to her salon for another session of Brazilian blow out, however this time it was all frizzy as nothing was ever done with her hair. She contacted Silva and followed her instructions but still did not work, she called the Brazilian blow out directly and inquired about the procedure and found out that Silva had taken many short cuts and did not follow the guidelines and was told that she did not use enough product to saturate her hair, which my wife was suspicious of that as Silva did not use a mask and also there was no chemical smell from the product. Big deal, today (the day after) my skin still feels like it is still slightly burning. Plus the cloths she used on my face were way to rough too. It deserves five stars for value -- seriously -- if maybe four for the look of the place; yes, it's small and not super-luxurious, but quality matters more to me than aesthetics. I've had three terrific massages here (with Dan, I believe his name is?) and two facials, one with Lina and one with Veronica. I enjoyed them all and felt that their 3 Mix 'n Match for $99 was an INCREDIBLE value. There's plenty of parking, it's clean and cared for, and the staff really knows what it's doing. I've never had to wait for long and no one has ever tried to hard sell me on their products, Aveda or others. The masseuse (Dan?) is amazing. He's very sensitive, very thorough. If you want to chat, he's a nice guy (smart & funny) but if you want to zone out, he's fine with that, too and totally follows your lead. His hands are strong, he obviously has lots of experience, and he never rushes -- I felt that he focused fully on me and applied the exact right amount of pressure so that my muscles were getting worked on but I was neither in pain nor about to fall asleep. During my last facial, I learned that this spa once used (exclusively?) Aveda products, but that their contract is up with Aveda and they're now using other products. After giving me a nice and relaxing facial (with extractions), Veronica offered me a sample of an Emminence Papaya Facial Peel -- loved it. I've been really happy with this salon. I've been going to Maggie for the past 4 years for hair cuts & hair styling, eye brows/face threating, waxing...! I was scared of threating, but this lady does it so smoothly, you won't even realize when it starts and finishes.... and she gets them from the root so i don't have to go back so fast. She is a pro in eye brow threating/shaping! Also, she has a good sense of what matches you or not. So, she will make good recommendations, but she will not do what she wants. Silva, could not be nicer and tried so very hard to get my hair right, but she just does not know curly hair. I went in for a "relaxer". Not a japanese straightener, not a brazillian blow-out, the classic relaxer (if you know curly hair, you know what I am talking about). Silva claimed to know as well, but as soon as she started treating my hair, it was very clear she did not know what she was doing. She wasn't combing it straight, she just squirt the chemical on and expected it to work. It did nothing for my hair. I also happened to be there on a busy Friday evening and she was trying to do myself and 2 other customers at the same time...it was distracting and caused it to take an excessive amount of time. I called (several times) and she told me she was going to contact the Aveda rep. Although it took several weeks, she did re-do the treatment (without charge) with a new chemical and the second time she at least did the process correctly (combing the hair straight while it was being treated etc.). Alas, it still didn't work. Very nice lady, very responsible in trying to make me happy. She just doesn't know curly hair. read more
