This isn't the easiest thing to write, but I am writing this because the staff at Encore deserve to hear my thoughts, and you may want to as well. I wrote something here quite long...then came back and cut out a lot. You don't need all the details. If you're reading this, you know the story. A difficult road led to having to find a long term care facility. I have seen other facilities. My mother had developed Alzheimer's in 2018, and very shortly thereafter my father, now alone, also needed a care facility. I engaged in a search, and some of the facilities were heartbreaking. I was frightened by the thought of that being the only option. Long story short, my family was incredibly fortunate to find Encore at Avalon Park in December of 2018. It's a lovely environment. The key here is I was able to let my parents be together. Together in their own small apartment, enjoying their own place, eating good meals, had a routine and received all necessary care. They were happy together, and safe. And...the staff. My eyes are welling up as I write this...my God...what a blessing they have been. They LOVED my parents. My mother passed away (she was 92) in 2022. The amount of tears and grief by everyone who cared for her...the emotion was so...honest. And since then, they have cared for my father as if he were their own relative. Every time I have visited, I have seen their care firsthand. From the Director Monica to the nurses and aids...everyone has been such a reassurance to me. It is June 2026. My father doesn't have a lot of time left. The care and emotion is very evident. I feel blessed to have been able to provide this final gift to them...a nurturing environment that cared. What else could I have asked for? Thank you...all of you. More than I can ever say. I can not say enough good things about this facility. My brother has been there for over 6 months and I am very happy with the care they provide to him. Encore went out of their way during Christmas to make the residents feel loved and to experience the holidays. The quality of the food is excellent and tailored to the individual. My brother's room is always neat, tidy and clean smelling. He is handicapped, so the staff has done a great job being receptive to his needs. There are a ton of activities. My brother has a full calendar of events to do on a daily basis. Encore has outings and they have a lot of events at the facility so there is a lot of interaction with the public. The location is excellent. It is a block - walking distance to the Publix or the CVS if I need any supplies. I also can walk to about 10 restaurants from Encore, so it is is easy to take my brother out for dinner without even having it get in the car. I highly recommend this facility and could not have found a better place. read more

I would like to begin with no matter when it is time to place your loved one in an assisted living facility (ALF) and need memory care assistance, this is a very difficult time. Now, I would like to tell my story of choosing Encore @ Avalon Park memory care assisted living. My grandmother had been living alone for many years after the death of my grandfather. Time and realization slowly crept in that she could no longer do Day to day living expectations, such as using her appliances, driving, paying bills, remembering to shower. My mother moved in with her part time and thing were good for awhile then her Dementia slowly got worse and sundowns was kicking into all time highs. It was time to make another change and adapt with our new grandma/mom. She came to live with me for just about 2months. In these weeks it became apparent that us family just wasn't equipped or educated enough to be able to give the best care my grandma. This was very difficult to accept but as looking and making appointments for ALF w/memory care doing walk throughs discussing financial cost, it became clear that Encore was offering the best of the best. I ended up having to make the decision on my own, as other family members couldn't cope or realize grandma's mind wasn't what it use to be. Despite being the same person, she also was a new person with a different reality that is hard to understand. Dementia is a horrible disease that takes from your loved one and you. Now, after many visits to ALF, I walked into Encore with my mind made up that it was too expensive, too corporate and really just not sure why I was giving them my time. I am so thankful I gave them a shot! I walked in started my tour, being polite but when the various staff could tell I was already done with the "look at how great Encore was" Starse (pardon misspelling) she looked at me and asked "what are your expectations and tell me your concerns". I was completely honest and had voiced everything. She didn't just listen to me, she told me the truth on transitioning on scheduling and then showed me around, introduced me to other staff members and nurses. Our tour was cut short, due to needing to get back home to my grandmother. Starse, told me to call anytime, come back with or without appointment, bring my grandma to hang out for the day get a feel for the place because she understood the decision making and TRUST I was instilling. A few weeks went by, prayed and came to deciding to go with Encore. My grandmother has been at Encore, her home, since October 2017. She is thriving there! Yes, she still has difficult days as expected with dementia but her quality of life expanded! Encore offers all sorts of "perks" for lack of better term, they have fantastic physicians that makes weekly and as needed appointments with each resident, cardiologist that makes in house calls along with thrive behavioral therapies, dentistry that comes in house for dental treatments. The staff is more than staff!!!! They are like family. They treat residents and my grandmother with the utmost respect, love & dignity! The safety of each residents well being is top priority. They have a very well put together schedule for our loved ones to keep their minds and body active. They have events that include us nonresidents to encourage a more family oriented atmosphere. Weekly "field trips" with residents to get them out and about in the neighborhood. Scheduled activities with the community and schools. I can go on and on about how wonderful Encore truly is! But what is most important to know is that I found the perfect home for my grandmother that can gives her a better quality of life while suffering from dementia. It is a very hard pill to swallow to admit when you can't provide and give what your loved needs but it feels good to know Encore has the training, staff & LOVE that is given to my grandmother and all residents daily! They gave my back my relationship as a granddaughter/grandmother and my kids have the chance to actually be kids with their great grandma! I thank god daily for Encore and giving them the chance!!!! My mother has been as a guest of Encore since July 2018 and all I can say is Encore is the most professional, most caring, and most responsible for her care. The caregivers have a heightened awareness of all of their guests. The nurses on duty volunteer any information on changes in her health or her behavior. Most accommodating providing information on a dime. Their activity team encourages participation and makes it fun for them and treats all of them with great respect. Although my mother has dementia, every time I go to see her, she says that this place is her paradise. She has asked me to keep her there until she is called home. I encourage that anyone who wants to place their loved one in a responsible, caring and enjoyable place, please consider Encore and make the tour. I had a problem finding a good place for my dad until my daughter found Encore. Went to talk to them the place is amazing and the people were so nice. They took us on a tour of the facility it was clean and the staff on every floor were so greeting. We went back to the conference room and I agreed and they told me that he would have to be assessed and approved. He was approved and I was so thrilled. We moved him in it was the best decision I've made. They are 100% the best. They really take care of my dad and all patiences. They really know how to treat everyone of them with gentle hands and great care. If you have questions they have an answer if not they will get you an answer. I just can't say enough. I want to start off saying that this review is based on my first hand experience. I witnessed/experienced these things personally. I have heard many other shocking and bad stories about encore but will not include them because It is hearsay and I have no way of verifying. Both of my parents had Alzheimer's but were in early to mid stages. My siblings I thought it would be best to move them closer to me since their impairments were beginning to effect their daily life and safety. They had some health issues, as most 80-something's do, but remained active. We looked at several assisted living places before deciding on encore. We loved the concept of Avalon park with the range of young and old all together living within the whole of the community. Encore was brand new (opening in January of the year we moved my parents in) and had a great concept of building layout. We were made promises of my parents care. When we moved them in, every promise they made was broken. Even when I asked for services, such as transitioning, mental health, etc., these requests were denied or ignored. Even though I had been asking for services and had previously informed them of developing health issues, they blamed me saying I didn't follow through or didn't let them know (blaming me was confirmed by other doctor's offices when doctors office said they have been waiting for the forms they repeatedly asked encore for and encore said it was my fault paperwork wasn't done even though dr office had forms I initially filled out). When my mother would be in the hospital (4 times in 3 months!), my dad would go looking for her, usually at the reception desk. He did leave a few times but he stated that it was to look for mom or myself because he couldn't remember where we were. There was a purpose to him leaving so it wasn't just him wondering off. I got a call out of the blue that my parents needed to go to memory care ASAP. I was only given 1 days notice to get them moved. Even though they moved 2 floors down, encore offered zero help with the move and I had to hire a moving company. Before we moved them to encore, I was told my parents could keep their cats if they ever had to go to memory care. They caught me at the door as I was leaving from moving them to memory care saying they couldn't keep them. One of the times mom was in the hospital, the hospital recommended putting her on hospice. Encore knew about it but never told me! Found this out when I called hospital social worker. My mother lost weight while at encore. Though she had always been tiny, she went from 82 lbs to 66 lbs in 3 months. They were suppose to help her by making sure she ate and give her high calorie shakes. They did not do it! I was also told that when they went to memory care, there would be more activities for them to participate in. They did not encourage my parents to join any activities and let them sit in their rooms all day. Mom would get bruises all over her. One even looked like fingers. Encore told me people with poor nutrition get bruises like that. My parents hated being there but I chalked it up to them wanting to go back to the home they had for over 50 years. I should have listened to their complaints! The atmosphere with staff was stressed and moral was low. This showed in their job performance and in the care of residents. Many of the management staff and even the doctor were gone less than a year after encore opened. A place down the street from my house finally opened and I signed a contract with other place the day it opened. Couldn't get my parents out of encore fast enough! When I did their room's final walk through and was leaving, a staff member told me "I'm sorry they are leaving but they are finally going to get the care they need." The new place did more for my parents in 2 hours than encore did in 3 months! Unfortunately my mother passed away 6 days after moving to new place. No matter what the new place tried, they couldn't undo the damage. I hope encore has cleaned up their act and other families do not have to go through what my family did. If I could give this zero stars I would. My dad stayed in their memory care unit two days before he was asked to leave because he was aggressive. I do not know a dementia patient that isn't aggressive?? That is why families chose a memory care unit over assisted living so the staff is there able to handle and redirect that behavior. i was called after 24 hours to come pick him up which is not enough for anyone to adapt to a new environment. I bought activities like puzzles and coloring books to help since they were calling reporting his bad behavior. When I picked him to come home the activities were never even opened. He had on the same diaper that was soaked through two layers of clothes and his clothes weren't changed. I have a 12 year daughter at home who can get him changed and dressed. The inability for this facility to handle the care of a dementia patient is shocking and concerning. read more

My mother was a med/surgical RN for over 50 years and had lived in her home on the East Coast, by herself for over 30 years. 2 years ago as she evacuated for Hurricane Irma and spent 5 days with me it became clear that her Parkinson's (which had been diagnosed 3 years earlier) was starting to effect her memory and other abilities. Within the past 6 months it became extremely clear that she was not going to be able to stay in her home any longer as she was refusing any help and her ability to take daily care of herself was disappearing. So began our families search for a place to move our Mom. I was fortunate to be able to have professional help in navigating the many possibilities of places in the Orlando area. I visited over 10 ... weeded it down to 4 for another sister to visit and then we weeded it down to 2 for the final 2 sisters to visit. Every presentation by Carmen Rivera and the Encore Staff was meet with the same enthusiasm and confidence that they would/could provide a loving, medically correct , quality of life/care for our mother. Now jump ahead we had a planned move date for my mother of mid September. We were unsure of how we were going to make this happen as she had not left her home in over 4 months and didn't ever plan to. Then came Hurricane Dorian and she was going to have to evacuate to my home in the Orlando area. I called Encore with the thought that she not go back to her home and could we possibly move her there after the storm had passed. The call back I received was Bring Her Directly Here. 2 moves would not be good. We will look after her during the Hurricane and then settle her in after. We moved her on a Sunday explaining this was a safe place for her and that my home was full of evacuated college students. By the time the storm had passed and it was time to tell her that she was staying the staff at Encore (which was on Hurricane protocol) had gotten her to shower and come out and eat some meals with others (things we were unsure she would ever be willing do). When I told her she wouldn't be returning to her home, while she was sad and pushed back some, she was also calm and accepting of it. I know there will be more trying times ahead, as that is the nature of her disease, but for the first time in a long time all of us have peace knowing where our Mom is and the quality of care she is being given and the happiness of knowing that she is ok and is actually "living and participating" in daily life. We are so blessed to have found Encore for our mother. I read more
