If I could, I would give no stars to this company. DO NOT WORK WITH THEM. I had my wedding in 2011 and everything that reviewer Michele T. wrote is COMPLETELY TRUE. Upon meeting Rob (owner), we were very excited about the lighting, DJ and photobooth we were going to receive from them. They showed us pictures and examples of their lighting and photobooth and they were the one vendor we felt so confident in. What we were promised was not what we got - esp. the lighting and photobooth. NEGATIVES: Lighting: HUGE NEGATIVE 1.) Our reception started a whole hour late because they were not set up (only 2 people running the photobooth, dj, and lighting) and had to start even without lighting, which did not get fixed at all and so lighting for the entire reception was nonexistent. 2.) We were promised a name monogram on the dance floor, which just happened to break that day, so, no name monogram (over $100+). 3.) We were promised a "white wash" on the dance floor for our first dance & cake cutting and the only thing that consisted of was a panel about 8"x10" that had LED lights that was sitting on the floor aimed at our feet. The dance floor was pitch black so our venue tried to turn on some house lights and our photographers had to go grab their extra light to shine on us so they could get some pictures of our first dance. 4.) We were promised pin spots on each table to light up each centerpiece - only a few tables had pin spots and the excuse that we were given was that the overhead lighting interfered with how the pin spots look but we had to turn on overhead lights b/c their lighting was nonexistent. 5.) We were promised uplighting around the dance floor and did not get this as well - only 1 pillar was lit up. Photobooth: The photobooth was poorly constructed and looked dated as the curtain rods kept falling down and the seating was unstable - the excuse we were given was that people get rowdy in the booth so thats why the photobooth was like that. When we met with them, we were shown a completely different photobooth and assured that all the photobooths were "upgraded." We were promised an attendant for about 80% of the time as the person would go back and forth from DJ to photobooth. There was hardly anyone there so my sister in law was pretty much trying to organize and make the scrapbook album. Only about 5 pages were actually put together. Our images were poorly printed: the quality was okay; however, due to "printer problems," it cut off the bottom of our footer on ALL prints. After the wedding, they agreed to reprint all of the images and mailed those to us (2 months after the fact); unfortunately, all of our guests went home with the cut off images. We were given a flash drive of images though, so that was helpful. POSITIVES: DJ: This was the one positive aspect of this company. Sam was great to work with; We met with him in person and he gave us a short example of how he DJs. We talked with him in length about the type of music we did and DID NOT want, and he met our expectations on that. He responded to emails quickly and had phone conversations with me to make sure he had the pronunciations down and the correct music. Our ceremony music went flawlessly and for the reception, we had a younger group of people at our wedding so we wanted the music to stay in the top 40/hip hop and Sam did a good job with that and did take some requests as well. We were satisfied with the DJ component of the services provided. HOWEVER, we were promised a "glam cam," which we were not given as well. AFTER THE WEDDING: We called Rob (owner) to discuss our frustrations and disappointment with services provided and he claimed that nothing had gone wrong in the wedding and that all of my claims were unfounded. This infuriated me even more as he went on to say that they had done nothing wrong and everything had followed the timeline we had agreed on. I sent him pictures with time stamps of our late entrance due to their inability to set up on time for our reception, poor lighting that did not light up the dance floor as he had stated they would, lighting that did not "pin spot" tables, lighting that failed to work, lighting that did not exist as we had agreed upon in our contract (i.e. pinspots, 20 LEDS, etc), and lack of attendant at the photobooth. Finally, my husband had to take over handling this situation as I was unable to deal with him any longer. Long story short, after many ridiculous phone conversations and emails, we were able to recoup only 1/3 of what we paid for services. OVERALL: Save yourself the headache and DO NOT use this company. They do not provide what they promise you and are not customer friendly when you are not satisfied with services (even with proof!). It was not worth it to spend the next 3 weeks after our wedding (when you should be on your honeymoon and enjoying your time as newlyweds!) trying to get some money back from them and then waiting an additional 2 months to get reprints. read more

I hired Encore for my wedding, and would do it again in a heartbeat! I'm seeing two negative reviews- and I do NOT understand why. I initially hired Encore for a photobooth & lighting... then about 6 months before my wedding I had lost my DJ and added a DJ into the package-- which I think was the best decision I made!! The DJ's were amazing and played everything we loved, and even honored my do not play list. The photobooth was awesome and kept everyone entertained, and provided me with so many memories of my wedding.. and the lighting was PHENOMENOL!! My wedding theme was fall, and with the lighting they did; it felt like we were in a giant pumpkin. Really brought my reception hall together. Rob the owner was great at communicating, and keeping in touch from the time I signed up until my wedding day. Would hire them again for an event without a doubt!!!! I will admit, it was more than I wanted to pay BUT I gave in because I liked Rob from the first meeting we had with him; and it turned out wonderful. Everyone has been raving to us about how awesome it looked, needless to say we were more than pleased. Encore's staff are very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Wow!!! Rob and his team outdid themselves at our wedding a few weeks ago in Detroit. To be honest--we had a bit of a scheduling mishap and miscommunication from the outset, but I am so, so happy that that didn't deter either us or Rob from meeting... because once we did... we fell in love with Rob's patience, enthusiasm, and passion for what he does. From the get-go, my husband and I knew that we didn't want the typical wedding songs or the so-called "push play DJ" at our wedding. We wanted someone who could get a feel for the type of music that we and our guests loved -- electronic, rap, hip-hop, even some k-pop (I'm of Korean descent). Rob, however, didn't shy away from this challenge and from our first meeting (which, by the way, he and his wife stayed open late to accommodate my schedule) he did some live mixing for us. If you EVER get a chance to have Rob mix for you--ask him to do so. You'll really get to see his talent and excitement shine when you hear country mixed with EDM, K-pop mixed with rap, etc. From that moment, we knew that we had our DJ. Rob also brought to life our vision of the perfect space for our reception. He provided a starry night sky for our ballroom reception, flashing and stationary lighting to match the space and music, white couches around the perimeter of the dance floor for guests to relax but still join in on the fun as it got late into the night, and a greenscreen photo/video booth (which Rob then used to put together our concept of a wedding music video of our guests dancing around like crazy in front of the images and videos that my husband and I selected). If you are someone who has a vision of the kind of wedding you want and need someone to execute it and make it even better than you could imagine -- Rob and his team at Encore Event Group is where it's at. read more

DO NOT BOOK THIS DJ!!! If it were possible to give 0 stars I would. This DJ service came perilously close to ruining my wedding reception. Lets start with the bait and switch. Through the whole process we worked with Rob, who seemed nice enough, my husband and I were actually pleased with his customer service in the beginning. This was the ONE thing in our wedding that we actually splurged on and it went TERRIBLY wrong. About 2 weeks before the wedding Rob advised us that John would now be handling our wedding and he would call in a day or two to go over song choices etc. John called 3 days before the wedding. He was unprepared for his call and unprofessional on the phone. As it was my wedding, I was prepared with all the information he would need, so I walked him through all our song choices and resent him the itinerary I had made up for the evening, which again included all the song choices. Fast forward to our wedding day... John shows up late. He's not dressed in the "suit" as was included in our contract. He's wearing a white T-shirt and black pants. He doesn't have our song choices, which I have now sent him twice. The entire bridal party is outside. He comes out to ask me if I know the singer of one of our songs because he can't find it. WTF, he's a DJ, isn't he supposed to know this stuff? And worse yet, it was on the itinerary I sent him, the song list we went over together, and included in the online information we filled out with Encore. We get him the information he needs, he goes back inside, everything's good.... NOPE! John comes back out to let us know that the microphones aren't working.... Whatever, fine we can live without mics, just announce us already so we can sit down and eat! John goes back inside, and then comes out and tells me and I quote "I don't think I can do this." He actually told a bride minutes before she's to be introduced at her wedding reception that he has to leave, he can't do this, he's messed up too bad and has to go home. If it weren't for the intervention of my best man and bridesmaid, I would have beat him to a bloody pulp. They were able to calm him down, so he could at least introduce us which he did... However he got my name wrong. For the first time I was introduced as my new name, it was wrong. That is something nobody can fix ever. Thanks for the memory John! So now I'm livid.... but John is still in full on panic mode, and I'm waiting for him to walk out the door so we are pins and needles the whole night. If that weren't bad enough, he played completely inappropriate music early in the evening, causing my pastor, grandparents, and parents to excuse themselves from my reception early. SO.... after all this we call Rob the "owner" to complain about the service and request a refund. However since John didn't do anything contractually wrong, he doesn't want to refund us anything. ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME??? Apparenly nowhere in the contract does it state that the DJ has to say the right name for the bride, or not scare the crap out of her moments before she's introduced by threatening to flake out. If you do book this service, make sure you find out who you're actual DJ is for the event. If it's John, make sure you have a back up plan as he's extremely unprofessional and might back out moments before you need him. After all this, they offered to give us back $125. $75 for the Mics, and $50 as a kick in the pants. Thanks for nothing Encore. read more

Not only was Rob great with meeting the needs of our musical taste, he was also an entertainer. He is a DJ/host that knows how to keep your guests on the dance floor and having fun. Whenever it seemed like the party was dying, he would announce something super fun over the speakers and get everyone up and going again. Him and his team did an excellent job of keeping the music level where we wanted it, and playing every song on our list. The floor lighting they have is amazing also. It doesn't just beam up, it illuminates a huge surface area, so you get a lot more bang for your buck. We opted out of the Photo Booth, but I have actually been to another party that they did, and the Photo booth they use is top notch and very good quality. I'd recommend Rob and his team at Encore Event Group to anyone who has a wedding coming up or even a Birthday Party! They are flexible and work with your needs, all while being professional and kind. When we originally booked them, they seemed eager to help and we were very happy with their customer service. We explained to the company that we are overseas serving and could not physically meet with them. We were assured that it would not be an issue and that they would respond to email and phone calls as needed. As soon as they received a deposit though, it was almost impossible to get a hold of them for anything. We would ask questions and they would only respond to send an invoice. On numerous occasions we tried calling and emailing our questions but they would go unanswered for weeks. We were originally quoted a price, but as the wedding day got closer, more charges kept getting tacked on for services that were already discussed previously. We were charged an additional $175 to place a single speaker 3 feet outside the reception hall door for the ceremony to play the intro song which they said was the "going to the chapel package". We were originally told we did not need to pay for this package because our ceremony and reception were in one location. Prior to the wedding, the company required us to fill out an extensive form that covered every detail of our wedding (to include song selection) so they would know what we wanted and did not want. We filled out the required paperwork which seemed not to have been used the day of the wedding. We were also told by the operations manager that they have done this venue before and the DJ and lighting would begin setting up three hours before the ceremony. About an hour prior to the wedding, instead of getting ready and putting on my dress and taking photos, I was scrambling trying to get a hold of the DJ who was no where to be found. Even the employee setting up lighting could not reach him and informed us he has not arrived yet. Once the DJ finally arrived and the ceremony had already taken place, things went downhill. The entire PA system went down and started screeching during the best man/matron of honor speech/toast but luckily he was able to rectify the situation fairly quickly. After that, the DJ continuously approached my husband and myself throughout the entirety of the reception seeking guidance on what to do next even though we provided a by the minute schedule. I was far from impressed with the DJ services. But the lighting however, was great. The employee was very professional and knowledgeable. He was able to provide us with more answers in a matter of minutes than the entire operations cell in the span of months. read more

We were "wowed" from the first meeting! We hired encore for our prom and it would not have been such a great success without them hands down. You have to know how to throw a party and Rob knew exactly what the students wanted. The lighting was amazing, the DJ mixing was incredible, the Robot was the icing on the cake fun...and he even worked us sponsors into the fun. We used Encore Event Group for our wedding at the end of October and I can't speak highly enough of the job they did. We used them for ceremony sound, lighting and drapery, and DJ services and they delivered in all areas. Rob and Nicci were both great to work with and were very responsive. Their studio is a great way to get a feel for how certain lighting and drapery will look as well as their DJ style. Rob even took the time to play a set for us and it was clear he has a passion for what he does. We had a wide selection of music we wanted played, including a number of uncommon Latin songs which he went out of his way to download. The Client Portal made planning everything very easy and the in- person meeting before our event made sure all last minute questions were answered. The lighting and drapery they did transformed a plain ball room into a spectacular venue and we could not have been happier with how everything looked. Rob DJ'd our event and they did a terrific job. He interacted with the crowd, made sure everyone got out on the dance floor, and did a great job mixing in all different types of music. The City of Lights package was money well spent and really brought the party to life. We received so many comments from family and friends about how great the reception was and that they've never been to a wedding where the dance floor was so packed all night. We were looking to rock the night away for our wedding. We just wanted to dance with our friends and family; wanted to enjoy the night. DJ Duane from Encore did just that. From the get-go he was friendly and open to our specific music selections. We scheduled a pre-wedding meeting and explained what we wanted, what vibe we envisioned for our day and he was open and willing to listen, rather than just tell us what we should do. He was also adamant that the music we did not want played would not be played. The entire team at Encore was attentive to our needs and responsive, which is a big deal when you are from out-of-state. The day of the wedding, Duane played a fantastic selection of music. Just as we'd hoped, our assorted friends and family were out on the dance floor the entire night. One of our friends even told us, "I wanted to go get some of the coney dogs they put out, but he just kept playing good music, so I couldn't stop dancing."
