Uodate 5/3: Our porch is finished!!!! Speaks came on 4/30 and worked from 10:00-6:00. They came back 5/1 and finished the job. The owner came by the next day to check on the work. Such a nice gentleman. Needless to say, we are so thankful that Speaks was able to fix our problems caused by Calvin Cole and his crew at EMD. It took 4 weeks for our windows to come in...unlike the time frame Calvin gave me I'll say it again, do NOT hire this company for any job. They will take your money, lie to you, and leave your project unfinished or never start the job. Check out Speaks for any window and door needs!!! Update 4/30: We met with a new company (Speaks Custom Windows and Sunrooms) on March 19, one day after Laurie Cole texted me to tell me that she had made a mistake and had not ordered the windows after she sent me a screenshot of a doctored and bogus window order. Again, the excuse was a family crisis/drama‍ Our new company is much more professional, no deposit needed, AND today is 4/30 and the window install and cleanup for the mess Calvin made has begun! They will finish the job in 2-3 days!!!! Apparently, EMD is well known within the window/sunroom community for taking large deposits, taking way too long to order supplies or not ordering them at all, and for not finishing jobs. If you are looking for windows/doors/sunrooms to be installed, DO NOT CALL EMD....do your research and be warned. They have now since "gone out of business" since they took our money and didn't complete the job. And I've been in contact with two other families that have been through the same problems. If you want exemplary work and craftsmanship, honest and reasonable work done......Contact Speaks Custom Windows and Sunrooms! They are amazing and get the job done in a timely manner. I'd like to leave no stars for this company due to their lack of communication, professionalism, and shoddy work practices. We met with Calvin Cole on 7/24/23 to discuss having an already existing screened in porch turned into a sunroom. At the time, we had a good feeling about his bid and our conversation. The wheels came off as soon as we gave him a $10k deposit. We were told that the windows would take up to 12 weeks to come in. I tried at least 3 times to call, text, email and even went by the office one day in late October. We gave them the 3 months quoted to us and then we started trying to contact them about when the project would begin. We have been given every single excuse in the book: Calvin took ill, we have been short staffed, the phones and/or email has been down, too much rain, too cold, delays on supplies/ windows, we had water flooding at our home, and a whole slew of other personal family issues. They finally emailed me in Nov. and after many more excuses from them, they finally said they would begin work in mid Jan., but they didn't start until Feb. 20....because that Monday was President's Day and they weren't working that day It took them over a month to do what could have been done in 4-5 days. A week and a half goes by and I start calling/texting again to see when the windows will be installed. On 3/11 they have more excuses about weather and reinspections for other jobs. We just wanted proof that the windows had been ordered and we had to ask for that several times before they sent over a copy of a form that showed the windows had been ordered on 8/2/23. I called the supplier and he said those types of windows have a 6 week turn around. So the windows should have been ready for installation. Today is 3/18 and I get a text this morning stating that there was a mistake and the windows had not been ordered. There was another family crisis. So we now have to start over to find someone to clean up their mess! Calvin used wood that had very large cracks and/or dents. Energy Masters Direct left our porch structurally unsound according to the new company that we hired. They didn't take into consideration that putting up big windows after taking out several 4 x4 beams....the beams would need to be reinforced before the windows could be installed or the end result would be that the windows would eventually break due to the weight of the roof. My experience with Energy Masters Direct was great from start to finish. We are in a local group on Facebook and had posted some photos of what was needed and I had a few people comment and message, but Laurie was the only one that seemed to actually care to take the extra step and provide actual customer service, which we all know is so hard to find anymore. She sent her guys out same day, and they were top notch! They installed a sliding glass door for us which ended up needing some custom fitting and work, but with no complaints or aggravation. She stayed in communication with me through the entire process and after the fact to be sure we were satisfied. The work done was professional and precise, again hard to find these days. Could not have asked for a better experience all around. Thank you Energy Masters Direct! We will be calling for all new windows when the time comes. read more

Needed new windows for a 1970's house we bought over the summer which had what I suspect were the originals throughout. Calvin was quick to come out after we called and explained the types of windows that were available, and outlined how the installation process would go. Their bid was not the least expensive, but was reasonable and we felt confident in the product they offer and the service they would provide. Time-wise it took much longer for the windows to arrive after placing the order, but hey, that's 2021 for you and while I don't think anyone expected it to take as long as it did, there was an understanding up front that due to the WuFlu hysteria, it would be impossible to predict the future. Go in with realistic expectations based on the current state of the world... this isn't the fault of Calvin and company at Energy Masters Direct. Once the windows had arrived and Shannon confirmed the delivery, they scheduled 3 days for installation a couple of weeks out. They showed up on time, and got the job finished in a day and a half. Having a half dozen workers on the job made it go surprisingly quick. Everyone was friendly and respectful. Installation appears neat, the windows look and operate great, and opting for the colored exterior really improved the look of the house vs. what it would have been with the basic white windows. (Pop some popcorn...) **Update 4/8- we filed a BBB complaint and left negative reviews. **Update 4/9- EMD "temporarily closed" their business on Google, and took down their website. I received a call from the BBB, who states that they attempted to call, left a voicemail regarding my complaint and that business is now marked as closed. This means they cannot follow up. Laurie Cole texts and emails me that they have contacted their attorney about my "slander" and cancelled my order. I ask again for proof my windows were ordered or a refund of my deposit. **Update 4/10- EMD is still marked as temporarily closed, website is still down. Laurie Cole texts me that they will be refunding my deposit. I asked for their attorney contact information and how my refund will be processed. No response. I send a Zelle payment request. No response. I ask for attorney contact info. No response. **Update 4/11- EMD is once again active on Google and no longer listed as temporarily closed. The website is still under construction. Run. What was apparently a forthright company has gone completely off the rails... They are scamming customers out of money and not performing the work or ordering the goods they are contracted for. If you Google their recent reviews you will see they have multiple instances of accepting funds from upcoming orders only in the form of cash and then not delivering or completing the work. In some cases, delays are over 6 months later. We contacted Laurie Cole in Jan 2024 to replace 13 windows in a home. They insisted on a cash only deposit, stating that they couldn't accept credit cards. This should have been a red flag but I had checked their reviews and they had all been positive up to that point. We forwarded over $4300-- a 50% deposit on February 5th 2024. We were given an estimate of 4 to 6 weeks for the windows to be delivered and a following two to three weeks for installation. Since the project was a flip, we told her the windows needed to be in before April so we could market the property. We continued to follow up throughout the month of March with no response. On 3-19-2024 after not receiving any response to our repeated emails, phone calls and text messages about when installation would take place, Ms. Cole reached out to say we needed to sign the contract from February. I asked her at that time if the windows had been ordered yet, because they should be able to install and she responded "Oh no! No no the windows have already been ordered." I sent her the signed contract and asked for proof that the windows had been ordered. She ghosted us again, with no response to phone calls, text messages, or emails, requesting an update on the timeline, proof that the windows had been ordered, and when installation could be expected. On 4-8- 2024, my husband called from a different number pretending to be a new client and they immediately phoned us back to schedule an appointment to come out and give an estimate. I emailed her that I was consulting with our attorney and seeking a refund of our deposit or for the windows to be able to be picked up by our crew and she finally responded with a long list of family issues, delays, Calvin being ill... But again no time line for installation or whether the windows had actually been ordered over 9 weeks ago when our deposit was sent. We still have no update on whether the windows have actually been ordered.... Do not waste your money or time. read more

Still no communication from EMD. We have made 10 phone calls to them since the end of April 2024 and received one return phone from EMD. That tells you all you need to know. Not to mention the numerous emails and complaints to the BBB and the Attorney General. Our last correspondence via the AG from EMD was January 2024 and they stated they had contacted their attorney about refunding our money. Why do they need to contact their attorney to do that? We are still waiting for the refund. Today I asked a Lowe's employee if we were to order the same window, how long would it take to arrive, and the answer was 21 days! It's now been over 1 year and 3 months and we are still waiting. They might have completed good work in the past, as they did for us in 2018 and 2019, but in the last year, they have joined the ranks of scam artists as reflected in Stella and Julie's comments, which we could have written. We have experienced just the same lame excuses and "your order got lost." Even if it was lost, how can a window take over a year to be installed? Suffice it to say, this is not the last post and I will update as time goes on. EMD do not deserve even a one star, but in order to post a review, one has to put something! read more

I discovered Calvin Cole and his company, Energy Masters Direct 704-658-8351 on Next Door and I'm so glad I found him. He's truly one of the good guys and does business the right way. He's an honest, master window installer and very knowledgeable given his 20+ years of experience. In fact, he's the guy that the other window companies sometimes call on to fix their warranty claim messes created by other sub-contractors. There was no pressure to sign a contract after his sales demo because he simply stood on the truth. The Energy Masters Direct business model cuts out the window distributor and their exorbitant markups and passes that savings on to the customer so you will save money. The windows are high quality with a great warranty that is on par or exceeds the competition. If you're sold on a certain brand of window, still give Calvin a call. He can order any windows that you want direct from the manufacturer and install them which will still save you money. In December 2019, Calvin and his crew replaced 24 windows on the front of our house in two days and my wife and I absolutely love them and the professional installation. The crew showed up on time and was meticulous about clean up. The windows look and function great! I've even gotten compliments on them from the owner of another window replacement company that was doing some work next door. There were no surprises or hidden charges during the Energy Masters Direct installation. Calvin was onsite working along with the crew so I knew it was done right. Simply stated, Calvin does what he promises and stands behind his work which is so refreshing in the current window replacement landscape. We're saving now to have Energy Masters Direct replace the remaining windows in our house next year. I never thought that I'd be looking forward to spending money on window replacement. Calvin and his wife, Lori, are a family owned business that I highly recommend for your next window replacement project. They do a great job with their installation and are even better people. A miscalculation on my part resulted in a final payment with an $800 overpayment that Calvin promptly brought to my attention. If you choose Energy Masters Direct, then it's not a question that you have to ask. 2022 Update: It's been almost two years since phase 1 of my window replacement installation and I'm happy to report that there have been no problems with the new windows and I love them as much today as the day of their installation. Unfortunately, my neighbor who used another company for window replacement can't say the same. Again, I'm sold on the critical role of the window installation and it correlation to customer satisfaction. In August 2022, the 26 remaining windows in my home, phase 2, were replaced by Energy Masters Direct. Like most industries, COVID disrupted and slowed the window manufacturing supply chain so I had to exercise some patience since the window manufacturing and delivery were delayed. Calvin informed me of the uncertainty of the delivery timeframe in advance so it was expected. However, despite the unavoidable delays, my window replacement installation was scheduled quickly after the windows arrived. The Energy Masters Direct crew provided the same high quality installation and clean up for my phase 2 installation as they did for phase 1. We had Calvin do a minor siding job for us 5 years ago and we were very happy with the result. So naturally when we were in need of replacing the vinyl siding on one side of our home with fiber cement (due to solar warping), we called Calvin. Excellent job and a fair price. Calvin came out to our house right away to give us an estimate on new windows. He was very down to earth and did not try to pressure us into making a decision that day like a lot of other companies did. We explained about the warranty and the whole procedure from ordering the windows to the installation. Laurie was great about keeping me informed about when they would come out and install the windows. They came the day they said and were very considerate of our space and home. I went on Thumbtack and received Energy Masters Direct and several other companies. Energy Masters was the first company to respond back to me, the first to come to my house to provide a quote and the first to follow up after the initial quote. They were very competitive with their quote, timing was great and they made me feel as if they knew exactly what I wanted the windows to look and feel like in the space. It's been over a month since we had the windows installed by Energy Masters Direct and I still can't believe how much I love the windows and how completely seamless the entire process was.
