I don't eat burgers often, although I love them, so when I do it's gotta be good. We went to Engine No 9 for the 4th of July, and it was outstanding! We arrived at 5:30 and it was packed, but a table opened for us within two minutes. The ambiance was awesome, with each table having its own miniTV! Guests didn't have to choose between watching Wimbledon or the World Cup (or anything else they chose). Such a clever idea and probably great for entertaining kids, too. The server was prompt and friendly, and we got our drinks and app ordered immediately. We split the corn dog as an appetizer (felt right for 4th of July), and my husband declared it was one of the best he ever had. A great ratio of the sweet fried dough and salty hot dog. Definitely a reasonable portion to split as an appetizer and still have room for an entree. We got the tomato and corn salad as a side, which was a nice palate cleanser. I got the bacon cheeseburger (sub a pretzel bun, which you can absolutely do) and my husband got the Van Helsing. Both were excellent. He got regular fries and I got sweet potato fries and a side salad, also fantastic. My meal was exactly what I wanted - a classically delicious cheeseburger (I removed the bacon and put it on my side salad, which I highly recommend). My husband's had perfectly cooked garlic cloves and a nice zest with the jalapeños. They also had a great tap list to go wash everything down! I really like the chili and the Gumbo. The beer selections are outstanding. The tater tot nachos are very good as well as the fried green beans. Went here based on reviews and recommendations and it did not disappoint. I was lucky to get a seat at the bar because it was packed at 6 pm on a Friday night. I got the crispy duck wings (and do not know why I didn't take a picture ) but they were very crispy and very good. They came with 2 sauces, which I did not try because they said they were a bit spicy and I don't like spicy, but they were plenty good on their own. I ordered the One Bad Pig with a side of sweet potato fries and of course had to get an extra side of tator tots because I love them. The burger was very good and juice, hard to eat because it's so big, but I managed to do it. The tots were crispy just like I like them and the fries were your typical sweet potato fries but very good. The service was attentive and good and it seemed to be a local crowd and was a nice vibe. Well, this place wins my annual award for "The best thing I ate on vacation this year". This restaurant offers a wide variety of burgers, and I decided to try something new. I went with the XXX burger. It's a half pound of prime angus beef and comes with ghost pepper cheese, jalapeno bacon, sweet bbq sauce and is served on a pretzel bun. It was awesome. The sweet from the bbq sauce offset the spice from the peppers perfectly. My wife had the black N blue burger with the hot sauce on the side, and she loved it as well. My friend looks suspiciously like Jesus, so naturally, when we went to this burger place, he ordered the Resurrection burger. And let me tell you... that burger took the name VERY seriously. The entire night, this man was dying and resurrecting over and over again. I'm talking suffering, coming back to life, suffering again... a full biblical experience. Stick to the burgers! I got the mushroom ravioli because all the burgers had some spicy element to them or weren't my style and I knew I was taking a risk. Good but not great, seemed like their take on pasta and the sauce was watered down or added to. The burger was great according to my partner but obviously very hard to eat based on the size. First off, I'd like to preface this review by saying I've been to Engine No.9 about two dozen times over the past few years and have never had a problem...until tonight. Worst service experience I've ever had anywhere, and I've been going to bars & restaurants for over 30 years as an adult. To be fair to the restaurant, I'll limit this review to the only negative issue I had--Shannon the on-duty bartender on 6/9/26 at around 9:30 when my two friends and I sat at the bar. I'll save the drama but will say that due to her condescending attitude, she won't be getting my vote for best bartender of the bay. If you go to Engine No. 9 and don't have Shannon as a bartender, consider yourself lucky and enjoy some good food in a cool environment. But if you do, perhaps don't bother asking her about changing the TV channel and prepare to stick up for yourself when she gets snotty with you. And eat quick because she'll probably kick you out while her female buddy with the leg tats is allowed to stay after cursing you in front of other patrons. (Way to be non-biased and inclusive of customers who don't look like your employees!). Easily the worst service I've ever had in the 30-plus years I've lived in Pinellas County, and that's saying a lot. read more

In town for business so I of course had to try a place on the Yelp Top 100 Burgers. Because of construction in the area, parking was a little bit of a challenge but I found a nearby spot on the street after circling the block. That was the last thing that didn't go perfect. I chose a seat at the bar and very quickly was able to order The Heart Attack Burger - Fried Egg, Three Slices of American Cheese, Four Slices of Bacon, With Plenty of Chipotle Mayo. With 21 different burgers as well as the option to substitute a beyond burger patty and a portebella option for vegetarians, plus a couple of pescatarian options there is something for everyone. The menu is not limited to burgers but that was what I was here for so I didn't even really look at anything else. My burger was cooked perfectly to the requested medium well and with the chipotle mayo on the side. I forgot to ask for my egg to be fried hard like I prefer but it wasn't extremely runny so I was still pleased. Bacon was not too crisp that it crumbled but not chewy either, again pointing too that the cook knows what they are doing. Tots were perfectly crispy outside while remaining soft inside. Absolutely no complaints about the food! I can see why they have earned a spot on the Yelp Top 100 Burgers as well as the Best in Tampa Bay Metro area. Service was excellent! They also have been recognized as Best Sports Bar in Florida. I don't think there is a table or spot that doesn't have a view of multiple TVs without having to turn in your seat. It came with house-made sauerkraut, which was a standout--balanced, not too sour, and with just the right amount of texture. Easily some of the best I've had! For our mains, my husband went with the Black and Blue burger, and it was a hit. Loaded with bacon, blue cheese dressing, crumbles, and a kick of Frank's hot sauce, he called it phenomenal. His side of tater tots was crispy perfection, though fries and sweet potato fries were also tempting options. I opted for the Demigod--caramelized onions (done just right), sautéed mushrooms, three cheeses, and horseradish mayo. It was good, but after sneaking a bite of his, I'll admit he won! My burger came with a house-made cucumber and tomato salad, which was fresh and a nice nod to healthy eating. Intro: I stopped by Engine No. 9 for dinner and drinks with my buddy and his lady friend on a Friday evening. It was within walking distance from my hotel so I didn't pay attention to the parking situation. March Madness was happening while I was there so it was packed. Ambiance (3.5/5): Engine No 9 is a sports bar. The bar is U-shaped and there is bar stool seating at the bar. This is where we ended up sitting. There was a short wait when we arrived for seating at the bar. They also have tables at the edges of the restaurant. Engine No 9 is pretty narrow so it can get congested when it's busy as it was while we were there. And because the bar is U-shaped, depending on where you're sitting at the bar, you might not have a great view of the TVs. There are plenty of them, which is what you want at a sports bar, but there are some logistical challenges. Also, since I'm an old man, I appreciate when bar seating has some back support. They don't here. Food (4.5/5): I went with The Heart Attack Burger because I'm a fat kid at heart. Whenever I see an egg on a burger and multiple strips of bacon, it's a no-brainer in my book. They are known for their burgers at Engine No 9 and have an extensive selection. With your burger, you have the choice of regular fries, tater tots, or curly fries. I always appreciate options. I went with the curly fries (my friends went with the tots and regular fries). They remarked that I made the best selection after tasting the curly fries. I concurred. Drinks (4.5/5): They have an extensive beer list which is exactly what I look for at sports bars. They even had Delirium Tremens, my favorite beer and one that you don't find at most bars. Two thumbs up! Service (3.5/5): They were busy so the service was a bit slow. We had to flag down the bartender a few times. A bit understaffed for the number of people that were there which led to service that was friendly, but a little slow. Overall: When it comes to sports bars, I look for a couple of things: good food (better than standard pub fare), affordable drinks, an extensive beer list, comfortable season, lots of TVs, the sound on for games, and comfortable seating.
