Wow. What an amazing spot. We went to the beach and needed a bit of food after and this spot delivered. We called Johnny to set up a table for 10 people and he was amicable and great on the phone. By the time we left the beach and arrived everything was setup. Service was fast. The food and local Florida beers were great. This is soooo sad. This was a favorite place for us before the relocation. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the 36 beers. The pizza was great and the beer was cold. We came to the new location and the initial impression was great, more room, bright and shiny. That is where the good ended. First of all, they need to alter their listing because they no longer have 36 taps, only 14. Then beer selection was lousy. The server didn't even get it when I asked about the name "category 36" with only 14 taps. The server was rude and had not the slightest interest in us being there. We ordered 3 smithwicks and they only had enough for two and then when they tried to change the keg, the keg didn't fit their system so we had to choose another from the limited selection. I visited Category 36 Taphouse when I was in the area for a conference. After seeing the rave reviews about it online, I knew I had to check it out. I happened to visit on a Thursday night, which is Bandingo night, so the place was packed. I luckily got the last seat and was welcomed into the game of Bandingo. Unfortunately, the theme that night was 50s music (or maybe even earlier) so I didn't know enough to play. Regardless, I ordered the hot chips and a pizza. Both were delicious! The hot chips came with a side of french onion dip, which I really enjoyed. I got a pizza with mushrooms and pepperoni and enjoyed my leftovers the next day. Despite how busy they were, seveeal employees checked in on me to make sure the food was good and I was doing okay. You can tell that Category 36 Taphouse is a local's place, but I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area! You won't be disappointed. read more

Small spot tucked away in a side street strip center a block from the beach. Great selection of local beers and ciders on tap (36 of them). Decent menu of pub food. On this visit tried 4 different icy cold beers... All excellent. Add an order of pretzels, freshly baked, chewy and moist with beer cheese for dipping. Plus an order of house cut chips, freshly deep fried crispy and delicious. Service is quick and friendly. This is a cool little spot off the beaten path. Go!! read more

Four of us stopped in recently. Loved the cozy locally owned establishment. There is a comfortable bar (offering a huge selection of craft beers and wine-based cocktails), and both inside and outside seating. The owners are from Ohio and were sporting their red Ohio State shirts. Nice touch to get conversations going. We ordered two slices of pizza. One with pepperoni and sausage; the second had mushrooms, sausage, and olives. Both were delightful, especially as the dough is hand- made daily for all their food. We then ordered 10 wings, half with hot buffalo and half with lemon parmesan. The Buffalo cauliflower was very tasty-the breaded florets are tossed in buffalo sauce and served with a choice of blue cheese or ranch. Additionally, the menu includes a wide range of finger food, salads, stromboli, flatbreads, gyros, meatball, chicken and Italian sandwiches, pasta dishes, fish 'n chips, shrimp baskets, etc. Brunch is available on Sunday offering the full menu in addition to a daily special. I've been here multiple times, and I've left super satisfied each time! First, the food is outstanding...very much warm comfort food, the stromboli is great, but the meatball sliders are even better. The service is always super quick and friendly, and the craft beer selection is top notch. The place is very intimate and the music volume is just right (usually 80's big hair bands) as well. Great food, excellent service and a crazy amount of brews on tap. Can't say enough about the meatball sliders - you must get them if you go here. Pizza was delicious too - just didn't have enough room after the wings and sliders. I love that you can get the pizza by the slice without buying a whole pie. First time in, we were met with an outstanding tap selection (predominantly FL brews ), the best Stromboli I've ever had, a new BFF behind the bar (Drea!), and friendly fun conversation with all the other "belly up to the bar" folks. A day later, we were back. Needed to test for consistency, right? The freshly made chips & dip was immediately renamed "crack in a basket". We spent 5 days of a 7-day vacation before finding Category 36, which might be a good thing because we probably wouldn't have left the place if we found it on day #1. Their Stromboli is THE BEST EVER!!! Seriously, go just for that! We also had a pizza with sausage, mushroom and jalapeños that was off the chain! Incredible! The crust is thin and delicious and the cheese is the high quality mozzarella that creates long stringers every time you pull out a slice! Also, don't miss the hot chips and homemade French Onion - equally delicious. Our faith in the St. Pete's food scene is now restored. Last but not least they have an incredible selection of beers on tap and the bartender, Thom, and the owners Craig and Ted, are consummate hosts. Super friendly and they give Category 36 a welcoming vibe we haven't found in many places down here. We took the family of four to Category 36 Taphouse for lunch after a morning of mini golf. Craig, our bartender/server, was knowledgeable and friendly. We started with some of the house made chips and French onion dip. So delicious! Craig recommended the Stromboli. It was served hot and flavorful; my husband and I shared it and ate every single bite. The kids each got a personal pizza that they both enjoyed. The beer selection is extensive and COLD.
