I brought my tow truck to Engine Rebuilder for an engine rebuild they quoted at $4,800 with a 1-year unlimited warranty. After approving more work, the bill went over $8,000, and the truck still had the same misfire and shaking issues from day one. I had to bring it back multiple times, including paying $700 for towing when it broke down on the highway, and they refused to honor the original warranty they promised -- even cutting it to 6 months. The truck spent over two months in their shop during my warranty period, and they still tried to charge me for diagnostics when I wanted a second opinion. Terrible communication, bad attitude, and they do not stand behind their work. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

I'll lead in with the engine rebuild. You have to understand there are the guys that build the engine and there are the mechanics that pull & install it. So the guys in the back that built my engine apparently are magic. It's done right. So about the mechanics that put the engine in. Terrible. In the big picture the business is run poorly. It took over 9 months and a file with the BBB & a complaint with the Attorney General to get my truck back. I was lied to on just about every call for nine months. They burned up a brand new electric fuel pump. They couldn't figure out the wiring. It took a lot of prayer. I'm still finding wiring problems and fixing them but it's done. My business was down for over 9 months. It took a lot of prayer. I think they couldn't lie any more... But, the engine was built right. My advice would be don't let them put your engine in. Bring it for them to rebuild it only. 2.5 stars. read more

Do yourself a favor and don't engage with this company. Dont do like I did and look past the other negative reviews and focus on the price they are giving you. Trust the other reviews and know that these folks shouldn't be trusted and that they will try to get over on you. There are some decent people in the front, nice folks but the mechanics will screw you. I needed an engine rebuilt, they quoted one price and got the deposit. They got in to doing the work and all of a sudden a need a part from some unknown lane that's going to, you guessed it, be THREE TIMES the original quote. I assume they are hoping you'll say screw it and leave the car there so they can fix it up and sell it or just sell it for parts. Either way, I ended up paying them about $1500 for them to take my engine out of the hood and the end result was not a rebuilt engine but engine parts in my backseat and trunk. guess what, STILL can't drive the car. and the mechanic had the nerve to ask me what I was going to do with the car (like he had some plans for MY car) wild ‍. In summary, walk away. I unclick off this page and do a new Google search for a more reputable, honest, trustworthy mechanic shop because this one isn't it. Wish you all the best! read more

After contacting multiple shops about my engine rebuilt, I came across Engine Rebuilders on Google search. I called and they said that they are the specialist when it comes to my specific motor. I asked if it was OK to drop off my engine complete and was told yes, and it would take 3-5 weeks to complete my engine rebuild... 6 weeks later, I get the call that my engine is ready. I meet my mechanic at the location and they have my engine completely dismantled, the engine block is strapped to a wooden pallet and my engine parts are in cardboard boxes.... no explanation from Engine Rebuilders, just a " come this way to take of the ticket." My mechanic is mad, so I told him I would pay him extra to put it back together. We get to my mechanic's shop only to find parts missing, most of the parts were damaged or bent. (drive belt pulleys bent, distributor missing) Being this is a classic car, you just can't go to your local parts store for replacement, so I called Engine Rebuilders to let them know I'm missing parts and have parts damaged. David took my information and said he would talk with the crew who worked on my engine to locate the missing parts- I'm STILL WAITING FOR A CALL BACK!! The last straw, my mechanic gets everything put together, engine in the vehicle, ready to test start and all of the rocker arms were "hand tighten" not torqued to the vehicle's specs (70lb-ft)... You would think you would get better service, after spending 4,000.00 cash!!!! I wouldn't refer these guys to my worst enemy. read more

I took my Audi A4 to have my engine rebuilt on March, Angel told me that they could do the job for $3000 that they could assure me they could fix it because they had recently done a work like that but it would take 2 months. but later David called me that it would be a good idea to change the water pump and the oil pump, thermostat, and spark plug, it took 3 months to give me the car but when they told me to go for the car they didn't let me test drive the car * *they messed the AC up*** and they told me that according to them they did not touch the ac when they disassembled the motor and moved the ac lines they were not responsible for that I had to fix it in another mechanical workshop, and they charged me more after that to** $4500* * and when i went to pick it up, I only took the highway about 5 miles and the engine light and oil pressure, among other things, went on, I went back and told them about that, they told me to keep driving it to see if it would fix on its own, well i went back and they made me put in a new oil pressure censor and camshaft sensor for the check engine light and that's what they replaced and they lasted 1 more month to do that and when I went for it they charged me more for that and the car kept failing me ** *be careful because they only erase the codes with the computer and they don't fix the problems, the next day I took it back and they concluded that it was the defective oil pump and they made me spend money on sensors and they returned to charge the spark plug again because it failed when i had already paid for a new one with warranty and they didn't know what to put in and other things that were working perfectly but the check engine kept turning on because they only erased the code and after 2 days it turned on again, I only drove it for less than 1 week When the car began to fail due to a camshaft code, after they couldn't fix it, they told me it was an electrical problem and I paid them to have an electronic mechanic fix it and it still did the same thing afterward i could tell there was no work done to it they didnt even give me a receipt for the electric work that was "done" because supposedly they dont give any they didn't know what to tell me anymore and they just said that the battery among other things that have nothing to do with the engine codes in conclusion they are scammers do not let your money be stolen by this company waste of time and money I will sue this company and report with *BBB* *they never gave me the vehicle working and*** I paid a total of more than 6k*** multiple screws were missing from the engine that did not fit and from the alternator from what they said they had put and remove one in of their own to test and the turbo's too they destroyed the connectors of the spark plugs and other sensor connectors, among other things, my car continued to be bad so i took it from them and took it to another shop tht fixed the problem in less than a week when these guys take a month to check it and "fix" it they also found my timing chain not placed right which was one of the primarily things tht i had brought it in with these guys , this company is trash do not make business with them !!!! read more

I WASTED TIME AND MONEY .I had my engine rebuilt ,lasted two weeks ,car stopped while driving .I got it towed home. Thought it was some wiring issues I had with the car, didn't cross my mind that something was wrong. One day I noticed oil leaking from the car. I checked the fluids ,no oil. I had a mechanic friend stop by, he looked in the radiator and found oil, He also told me when I tried to start it ,my timing belt was broke! I referred a friend about the place when it was first fixed before any problems, so he took his car up there to get serviced ,they kept his car a long time and finally finished with a dented hood and missing parts. I really want to give them a ZERO star, but it is not allowed. DO NOT take your car there. They rebuilt my engine and did an extremely bad job. After I paid them over $2,500.00, my car ran with problems all the time. I had to take the car there three times for them to "fix" it and they never did a good job. My car was never completely fixed to the point that right now it is completely dead. My car has exactly the same problem it had when I took it to their shop. Originally the manager (owner) impressed me with the tour of the shop. DO NOT let their people impress you with the shop and the tour. You will end up paying a lot of money to other mechanics to try to fix your vehicle. I spent almost $8,000.00 taking the car to other places. A mechanic at one of the other places I took the car to said that the engine was not rebuilt properly. When I heard that I couldn't claim anything because the warranty was expired. Right now my car is not working. I can't use it. This place ruined my car. All problems are related to the engine and that was exactly why I took my car there. It was for them to rebuild the engine. I regret taking my car there. DON'T do it. You have been warned. I have a 1989 Nissan 240SX. Every time I took the car there because it was not working properly, the mechanic tested the car and came back saying, the car is ok. BIG lie. They also damaged my odometer and my air conditioner and did not accept it. They also left a lot of parts loose and denied it was them. Immediately after the car left their shop, I went home, opened the hood and there were a lot of parts loose. The noises I heard while driving my car back home made me open the hood as soon as I arrived. They never fixed my car properly. I regret taking the car there. Be sure you read the reviews on the BBB (Better Business Bureau). They are really bad, horrible. *******SHADY COMPANY******SCAM ALERT******** *****YOU WILL GET SCREWED OVER! NO DOUBT ***** I had my 1995 Altima rebuilt and most parts replaced around 3/21 (over $3,700). Two days later the car began shutting off at random while driving on the interstate. I attempted to utilize the extended warranty, I paid for, so engine rebuilders would tow the car back to there shop. Well, I was in for a rude awakening when I arrived to pickup my car . An additional $100 was charged for the towing (so DO NOT buy the extended warranty cause it is fake)." A week later and they had not fix anything. They state that there is nothing wrong with the car. When I picked up the car, the battery had been drained and more than 3/4 (of the full tank of gas I had) was gone and excessive mileage had accrued. Must have used my car to run errands around town. I had to take my car to a different shop (in which I acquired a new bill (over $200). They found vacuum leaks, wiring left unhooked, and the car was in need of new motor mounts, that I had installed at a later date elsewhere. I CLEARLY requested David inform me of any and all needed parts so it could be handled while the car was already taken apart. Seven months later (around 10/21) the head gasket blew again. Engine rebuilders rebuilt the engine AGAIN (utilizing the warranty). I had to secure wiring that was a strewn about. 8 months later, (around 6/22) it blew AGAIN. I had the transmission rebuilt (over $2700 elsewhere) prior to the first rebuild. So I have put too much money into the car to not get it fixed. I paid engine rebuilders to rebuild the engine for THE THIRD TIME!!! The 1 year warranty had expired by 3 months so I had to pay another $1,400 for the rebuild (which comes with only a 60 day warranty). I picked up the car 2 weeks later to find NO OIL in the engine (found this out later) and my A/C system had been discharged and they REFUSED to refill it. Keep in mind that I recently spent over $600 on repairing my A/C system (less than 1 month prior of the 3rd rebuild). Went to pickup my car to find a ticking sound coming from the engine. They did not tighten the lifters and I hesitant to take it back. The car cranked and ran VERY POORLY. I checked the spark plugs the next day and found them to look burnt/rusted. My car was filthy with oily finger prints (inside and out) and there are several broken/missing items on my car now (front grille, dashboard paneling, etc). So, unless you have mechanical abilities, prepare to have another shop fix your car after you get it out of engine rebuilders shop. Apparently David IS NOT an ASE certified mechanic nor does he have much competence about what cars need so expect additional repairs after picking up your car. Troy seems to be a pretty fair guy (telling it like it is) and their HEAD MECHANIC, Angel, does not QC his or his guys work. I will keep this post updated...... read more

We brought the engine out of our 2002 Chevy S10 in to be rebuilt. After it was returned with extra parts not belonging to the type of engine we have, we should have known the repair was not good. My husband got it installed back into the truck and found upon starting it that it had not been tightened down properly and the fluids were leaking from where the top and the bottom of the engine meet. Then we found that the head gaskets had not been replaced and this was an additional charge when we brought it back to be remedied. Now the truck is setting in front of my home with a hole in the engine and they refuse to make this right without we pay more for the work. It has been less than 60 days and the engine now has a hole in it and is inoperable and the shop wants to charge us more to repair it. read more

Dave and Angel are great as is the whole team. I have used engine rebuilders twice now. The first time on my ford ranger they did the machining and rebuilt the valves when I rebuilt. They were very helpful and did great work. My rebuild lasted 100,000 so last year they rebuilt the whole engine and did a great job. It was more than quoted but all made sense as two heads had to be replaced and they threw in a new manifold at no charge. The truck ran like a dream for 7 months. A misfire developed and they took the truck in and ended up having to take the head off to figure out there was nothing wrong with their work. Turns out it was electrical. They called me and got approval for all work before doing it. I pick the truck up on Monday. These guys are real pros and do their work for a greta price. I highly recommend them!! read more

I am a repeat customer. 2 years ago my 2007 Ford Expedition started having a loud ticking noise. I spent over $1,000 to have it fixed at another mechanic. The fix only last for a few months and it started back again. I did not want another car payment. I decided to rebuild my engine. I came across Engine Rebuilders and read some mixed reviews but most were positive. After talking with David and Angel, I decided to have them repair my engine. 3 weeks later they had my engine repaired at the price they quoted me. I have put about 50,000 on this new engine and have been very Happy. In mid May, my wife's 2008 Navigator started having a major ticking noise. One Shop stated that we needed a new engine for $8,000. I went back to Engine Rebuilders. They quoted me just over 1/2 of what the other shop wanted and I had a water pump and a new started put on. The Navigator is running great. Like I told my wife, we could not get a used car on the caliber of the Navigator for the cost of repairing this engine. Oh, like they say, if Mama is not happy, nobody is happy. Do not recommend at all! Unprofessional! Got a call telling me that my car was done, so I go up there and they tell me it'll be a few more days until it will be done. So I asked who I spoke too that told me it was done, David lied and said no one ever told me that it was done smh. So why would I come up there if it wasn't done.... So I come in next week to pick it up and it's still not done. I came in and was talking to Angel, I never said a word to David, but he kept trying to talk to me as I was taking with Angel. I asked him why are you talking to me if I'm not talking to you and then he started talking out the side of his mouth. So I started talking back and Angel said I can't talk to his employee like that, but your letting him talk to me crazy... We exchange words and then he calls me out my name. Angel NEVER said anything to him! Not once! But kept trying to tell me to stop talking. If your not white or Mexican I would not go here! They treat you like shit! I came here because of other glowing Yelp reviews. Must be under new owners. Left my car off, and three weeks later came to pick it up. First off, the car was filthy dirty, inside and out; they could have at least hosed the outside off. They gave the car to me while it was on. It never occurred to me to turn it off and then back on again. Drove nicely to my office. At the end of the day, when I went to start it, the car wouldn't start. Looked under the hood, and I think they put a rebuilt engine in there instead of rebuilding my engine, so beware of this, but cannot be sure about this. Called the next day to let them know car would not start. They said they would send a tow truck to get it to the shop. It couldn't be diagnosed at my office. Tow truck came and jump started the car and towed it. Called three days later, and the car was still being "checked"; they would call back. One hour later they called back and said the battery was no good. Now either the battery suddenly went bad on my three mile drive to my office (not very likely) or it went bad while the car was in their possession, and they probably had to jump start it in order to give it to me and probably why it was given to me running. Nothing was ever mentioned to me about a bad battery. They knew or should have known that the battery had gone bad. In fact, while my car's engine was being worked on, they told me my clutch was low, and they repaired it for me for a nice fee, too, in addition to the engine. My car has an alarm system on it that has a slow drain on the battery; my battery has a quick disconnect on it so it can be disconnected if the car won't be used for a while so the slow drain does not run the battery down. They probably did not disconnect the battery, and it ran down. I decided to get my own battery and came to pick up the car, so I could get a battery installed. They wanted to charge me $86 for the tow truck for six miles. I did not request the tow, and have AAA that would have towed for nothing; they requested the tow and said "their" tow truck would pick it up. I will speak to David tomorrow to see if he has more common sense than his employees, which employees were probably the cause of the drained battery. So, I would stay clear of this place. I just hope my engine (if it is really my engine and not someone else's rebuilt mess) holds up over the next couple of years to get my money's worth back. Follow up: David did not charge me for the tow, and car starts fine with a new battery; old one still had a warranty period on it, so wasn't totally screwed re the battery. But, as per their warranty, you have to return to them in 500 miles to change the oil. I did so, but instead David wanted me to retract this Yelp review; supposedly that's why he waived the towing charges he tried to lay on me. He handed me back my keys when I asked if he was going to do the oil change. And, by the way, their warranty sheet says you have to pay them $40 for the 500 mile oil change. Said he would sue me for slander. There are other exclusions to their warranty, so check that out, too. You have to sign it in order to get your car. Engine idles roughly for a rebuilt engine. Don't know if they tuned the engine, replaced wires, plugs or distributor. Will get oil changed elsewhere and get a tune up to see if that will get the engine to run more smoothly. Also, the engine doesn't come back to you looking nice and neat like the pictures on their web site. Added Follow Up: Less than 1000 miles into rebuilt engine and it starts to make knocking sounds. My mechanic discovered an exhaust manifold with two missing bolts and a third barely hanging on. In the process he found the accelerator cable to be slack, which he adjusted; wires not in their guides or supports; and heard noises coming from the transaxle where the new clutch was put in. So it might be that the clutch repair also may be shoddy. read more

They tried to charge a lot more than they quoted initially, but we compromised in the price. When it was finished, we took them a cashiers check for the total amount and they refused to release the car. They said they'd been ripped off with cashiers checks in the past and might have to hold the car for up to 6 months because cashiers checks are so sketchy. After I confirmed that the cashiers checked had been deposited in their account and was funded, they asked me to pay the bill in full again, in CASH! Seems like a total con job to me! Stay away. Very far away. So they tell me the car is done and running. I guess properly connecting the exhaust doesn't count. Throttle linkage not connected. Said it need other pieces for it. Would of been nice to know before I picked it up. A phone call would of been nice and I could of told them to go ahead and get what they needed. Hell, they called about every other part that was bad and needed replacing. Parts not hooked up(Hood latch and others). I installed them myself. Old parts I asked to save were picked out of the trash. Asked for a discount and nope. They gave me some free labor which was discussed days ago. When I got mad about all the screw ups I requested a discount. They tried to add the labor back in. Wouldn't even cut me $100. One dumbass behind the counter tried to say they tightened the parts I had to install so why would I get a discount. After a lot of research on the best engine builders, these guys were at the top of my list. I have a 1997 conversion van which I thought would be a bitch to work on and cost a lot of money, probably more than the van was worth. The vehicle had been abused by a previous owner and the price to rebuild the engine was going to be a tipping point as to if I sold it or not. It turns out that the block was literally scrap but It worked out that the value of what they did helped maintain the value of the van so I am very happy with that. David gave me a little tour of the shop and showed me that they do all their own work in house. That is a big plus because they warranty their work for a year and unlimited miles so they don't want any problems, especially with all the business they do. Speaking of that, the turn around time to complete the work was also very reasonable. Attention to detail is very important and they looked everything over to let me know of anything that needed to fixed before it all went back together. There were a couple of items that I had them fix and some that could wait, but there was no pressure on doing anything that didn't need to be done. During the break in period there was a gasket that didn't seal correctly and when I brought it back they actually fixed it while I waited. I haven't had a problem since. Everyone was friendly and informative and I am totally impressed with the service and quality of workmanship with Engine Rebuilders. Without question I would use them again and I have already recommended people to their shop. Having an engine rebuilt is the last thing I wanted to do, but I have confidence and peace of mind with the engine in my van now thanks to them. Money well spent. read more

I dropped off an engine block for some prep and custom work, and just finished assembling the short block and test fitting the rest. All of the deck work was flawless, the surfaces were as smooth as a baby's bottom, and the honing was equally flawless. All work matched my specifications to the letter, putting me right at my target deck clearance, right to the thousandth of an inch. This is definitely the place to go for an engine rebuild in Dallas! Troy the machinist did a fantastic job overhauling our Toyota engine, which had a rod knocking and a badly damaged crankshaft when we brought it in. That engine was on death's door but runs like new now! They rebuilt the engine from the top down (head, block, crank, pistons, rods, and everything in between). David at the front desk is very kind and professional, and will gladly show you their large shop and explain in detail what the mechanics will do. The price he quoted was the price I paid, and it was less than half of what other engine shops were quoting. Be patient when you take your car in. They might take a few weeks to get it back, but it's worth the wait. Good machine shops are busy. These guys are like a throwback to a time when craftsmanship and value meant something. The rating would be a no star but Yelp doesn't allow so I had to pick one. Beware of this auto repair shop. Had my truck engine rebuilt (98 Ford F150 4.6). Ran different searches for review but did not find complaints during my search. So I chose to take my truck for an engine repair Cost was quoted @ $1900.00. So I agreed after speaking to Dave And Angel, to have the service with the anticipation of a complete rebuilt to be done in 6 weeks. At 6 weeks that had just got it in the shop to be worked on. 3 months later I finally was able to pick up the truck but that's when other issues began. They drained the A/C, then attempted to charge for a fill up, a starter, which they said they had to replace which I had previously replaced on my own. I had to show receipts for a brand new starter and A/C Freon. There was a huge confrontation in the shop they tried to over charge and intimidated me. Interesting concept from a business who tries to take advantage of their customers. The fact that they try to dupe me into overcharging and not properly rebuilding of the engine. I attempted to call back several times so they would honor what they initially stating at time of service but they fell back on their word and turned in to a crooked repair shop. When I received my bill it was a total of $2600.00 big difference from the initial quote. I took the truck back and mentioned a knock in the engine and was told to bring the truck back after they disassemble the truck they said it was the timing chain tensioners I told them it was coming from the head( being I am a mechanic but had no where to do the repair myself) and they insisted it was the timing chain they proceed to repair it...and 3 weeks later I got my truck back with the same knocking noise. I was out 3 weeks for nothing. I would never take my truck there EVER!!...unless you want to be ripped off....I did find some bad reviews once I started searching more in depth to see if there were others...and there is a long list....Start with BBB. read more

I have a 1971 Impala that desperately needed an engine rebuild, I called around for some quotes and looked at online reviews and decided to go with Engine Rebuilders LLC. It did take a few months for them to finish the motor and replace multiple hoses that have dry rotted over the years, but they worked with me on time and prices and I received it running and driving better than ever. I did have to replace a gasket or two on and tune the carburetor, but it's an old car, and I paid them to rebuild the engine, not the carb. All in all it's been a few months since I've gotten the car back and I could not be happier, The car runs and drives smoother than ever and I will be returning to get my transmission rebuilt by these guys, and will be recommending them to any of my friends that need an engine rebuild or repair. read more

I would NEVER refer anyone to Engine Rebuilders... They got my business because the price was what I could afford at the time and they were willing to work with me regarding an installment plan. However, had I known then what I know now, I would have just temporarily gone without a car until I could save up enough money to get the job done right the first time. I endured having to (1) bring my vehicle back MULTIPLE times after services were rendered, (2) pay substantially more than the dollar amount quoted for additional services on one particular repeat visit, and (3) go extended periods of time without receiving ANY communication on the status of my car--even after the date upon which I was told my vehicle would be ready. I began my search by looking through BBB to find an engine rebuild facility. I called several to get a phone quote as to what it would cost to rebuild the engine on a 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5L. David (owner) from Engine Rebuilders is very professional, knowledgeable, and follows the customer centric model. I felt I was back in time doing business the old fashion way when it was so much easier and all it took was a hand shack and your word to get er done. Now a days it seems you have to fill out contracts and pay half upfront. He did not ask for any money until after the job was completed. He sent a tow truck over to pick up my car and did the rest. Every time I called to request an update he was friendly and did not seem to rush me one bit. He made sure my questions were answered about the progress on my car. (. This was in March/2011) I have referred several people to him because I want him to continue to do business and help others the way helped me. He quoted me the best price out there for parts and labor including install and stuck to it after the job was finished. No hidden fees or smoke and mirrors upon completion. He runs a great business. Last month the engine on my 2010 Kia Forte died. I brought it to 2 different garages around Frisco and was quoted $7000 and $9500 for swapping out my engine for a used one. I cried! Who can put that kind of $$$ into a car???? So I typed "engine rebuild" in Google and up comes Engine Rebuilders. I read their BBB review and consulted my husband who was having a panic attack over how much this repair was gonna be. I gave Engine Rebuilders a call and got David on the phone. He immediately made me feel at ease. He was very knowledgeable, and inspired so much confidence that I let him send a tow truck to get my car without ever meeting him or setting foot in his shop! He quoted me half of what the other places did to rebuild my engine, not swap it out. He kept me up to date via text and phone calls. He found a few other problems with my car and fixed them, while staying within the price quoted. I picked up my car this past weekend and it runs better than when I bought it!
