I went through chemotherapy in December of 2024, and the most complicated part of that was storing my sperm before that. I work in customer service myself, and this company provides the worst customer service imaginable. Neither location (lab or offices) can help you with anything. The employees at the lab are rude, short, and not helpful. If there was any other company I could have used, I would have taken that opportunity. This place is the literal worst, I am so sorry if anyone else has to use them.

NECC claims to test sperm donors, to determine whether they are carriers of genetic diseases, but this child was born sick. A PDF with personal stories from NECC clients is here: https://donorsiblingregistry.com/sites/default/files/NECC_3.pdf I'm updating my review with this information, because gambling with people's lives is much more important than the fact that the NECC representative was rude and unhelpful towards me, on the phone. (For more info, see Katy M.'s filtered review from 3/22/2009.) My customer experience follows: ============================================ The woman who answered the phone was quite impatient. I inquired about rates for storing sperm (cost for one year, multiple years). At first she said there was only one option. I asked a few more questions about their facility, then asked her again. This time, she rattled off a series of options. I had to ask her multiple times to slow down so I could write it down, and she got more annoyed each time. (This information was NOT available anywhere on their website at the time I called: I checked the site map and the confusing, jardon-laden "price list".) She hurried through the call. I did not get all my questions answered. It was just not a pleasant encounter at all. I have no desire to pursue a business arrangement with these people, especially not over something so important.

The team at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center was well-informed, well-equipped and exhibited superior bedside manner during my stay after having emergency surgery. During my time at the hospital Dr. Anu Hazra in infectious disease was quick to ensure that I was going to recover as soon as possible. My surgical team made up of Dr. Umesh Metkar and Dr. Michael Van Hal, were extremely knowledgeable. But what put my mind at ease was not only the display of their medical expertise but the care with which they treated me as a patient. Dr. Umesh Metkar and Dr. Michael Van Hal took the time to thoroughly explain the procedure, next steps and recovery time and helped me feel more comfortable putting my faith in his surgical skills. During my recovery they checked in on my progress and continued to exhibit unrivaled professionalism, empathy and attentiveness to my care. In addition, the entire team of nurses and staff within the transplant unit mirrored the exceptional traits that Dr. Umesh Metkar and Dr. Michael Van Hal has displayed during each and every one of my interactions with them. They remained steadfast in their dedication to quality care, ensuring that my health was closely monitored and that I was made to feel as comfortable as possible. When I had any questions or issues that needed resolution the nursing staff was able to respond and come to my aid. In particular Julie, Christie, Melissa, Ligaya, Andrea, and Yelena were wonderful! The nursing staff was smart, personable and are what I would consider to be one of the biggest assets to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Should you ever need medical treatment, this is the team you want on your side. I cannot thank Dr. Umesh Metkar and Dr. Michael Van Hal, Melissa Aiesi, Ligaya Hannaford, Andrea Barbosa, and Yelena Kozhebrodskaya and of course Liz for all that they have done for me and all that they continue to do for all of their patients.

They work together as a team, which is something you don't see very often. I have been going there for quite a while, and everyone there, at one point or another, has gone above and beyond to help me. Vicky, Dr. Goldman's assistant, is marvelous. She is always so pleasant and personable. Recently, I discovered that it was she who took it upon herself to write what must have been a master crafted PA in order to obtain Lidoderm Patches for me. I have been trying to obtain them via insurance for over a year. Three doctors have tried, as well. These patches are the one thing that cures my pain. I had resorted to buying them from Canada for close to $200. One day, I got a letter in the mail stating my appeal had been approved. Now, a month's supply is under $5. Dr. Goldman is a stellar doctor, who takes time to listen and offer knowledgeable, compassionate feedback. I've never felt rushed out his office. He's sincerely concerned and has been there for me during recent health crises, which I will never forget. He's also funny, witty and sharp. His calming demeanor has made me feel at ease. I don't normally call health providers, but have called Dr. Goldman. I feel comfortable with him, and know he's not going to balk at my concern(s). He really wants to help, and it shows. Excellent staff; I just can't say enough good things about you. Thanks!

The ER is always overbooked and understaffed everywhere. Over the course of the night the staff regularly checked in on me, ran all of the necessary tests, and prepped me adequately for emergency surgery the next morning. The staff was truly exceptional, the surgical teams are incredible here. My surgery went flawlessly and they also did a great job with post-op follow ups, calling me promptly and scheduling my 2-week post op check in ASAP. During my surgery, they kept my contacts in the loop throughout the process. I thank everyone who helped me here at Newton-Wellesley and highly recommend choosing this hospital.

They use scare tactics about "not taking risks." The nurse who interviewed me was very nice but said she was not a regular employee, and did not seem to have in-depth expertise in travel medicine. She spent an hour detailing unlikely diseases and unnecessary vaccines, then presented me with a proposed bill of over $1000. (Following employer instructions, I assume.) Moreover, I was charged an additional fee for a phone appointment with another nurse to prescribe the one thing I did need, preventive pills for malaria. I paid an initial bill of over $500 for an office visit and one vaccine, and came away not trustng the information I was given.
