I truly hope anyone needing a hotel in Joplin, MO checks Yelp reviews, this one in particular…read more We've stayed many times over the years at this hotel but most recently until last weekend was three years ago. I gave them a great review then. But now? Eww. Basically $200 a night for a one king bed room held not any kind of expected value. 1. The mattress was as old as the hotel, smelled musty and was hard as a rock (with a random 3 pillows). 2. The pool has slippery porcelain tile around it. I've not used a pool at their Hilton brand before and maybe this is typical for them. With that said, if you or your family are going to use the pool, TAKE WATER SHOES! 3. The pool area was 1 million degrees. Actually, it was 138 degrees. Outside was nearly 100 but we opened both outside doors for cross ventilation and that helped, considerably. 4. The breakfast was hideous. I had to check my watch to see if it was closing bc so many things were completely empty. 8:10 am on a Sunday. Still a long time remaining on their (un)complimentary breakfast. And the coffee? Don't get me started. 5. I requested extra pillows about 8:00 pm. They finally brought 2, hours later... without pillowcases. Was that a joke?!?! 6. The outdoor furniture that was cozy and fun to sit outside and chat with 3 years ago has literally SHREDDED cushions. (Is the goal to NOT have people outside?) This hotel has to be a franchise, with a completely careless owner. I'll never go back. 2 stars earned for location alone.

We arrived at an odd moment, with better timing than other guests: the electrical power in Joplin…read morehad been knocked out for hours that afternoon, and even after it came back on, the hotel's computer system and elevators were not fully functional. Other people had been waiting 2 and 3 hours to check in, or had to haul luggage up 4 flights of stairs to their rooms, whereas we waited 15 minutes to check-in and had to go up 1 flight. Thirty minutes later, the elevators were working, too. The woman working at check-in was all by herself and incredibly pleasant, even as she was understandably frazzled. I really wished she had some help. Or a big hug from someone at the end of the day. I hope the company recognizes her for working hard in extraordinary circumstances. We had a suite, and it was spacious. Our teenage son used the fold out sofa bed while we had the private bedroom. A bathroom was accessible from both rooms. The kitchen at the entrance included a full size fridge with big freezer, which was great for solidifying the packs from my cooler. There was also a microwave, dishwasher, and a coffee pot that we didn't use. We did find a broken thing in the room, the security brace at the door. We tried to set it, and it fell onto the floor! We let the front desk know about that as we left. The bathroom was handicap accessible and had a tub with a hand wand as well as an overhead nozzle. Everything in the bathroom functioned. The bed was comfortable. I couldn't hear noise from the corridor during the night, but there was noise from occasional trucks and that was quite loud. The overall location of the hotel was nice. There are many restaurants within easy walking distance. Lots of gas stations and other shops, too.

You don't have to struggle with the slot reader like most hotel door locks. The hot food at the free breakfast was excellent. The suite had a mini kitchen with a full size refrigerator, and a range with multiple cook tops, plus a sink. Parking was plentiful in the parking garage which is hidden from the street. And it's free!

In each bathroom there was penty of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash offered, as well as towels. Even though there was renovations going on the first two floors it was quiet in the early mornings while it was going on. The hotel also offered a free breakfast for all their guest such as eggs, bacon, potatoes, and different other types of hot breakfast foods they switched daily such as quiche and burritos. And, there were other types of items available such as a variety of cold cereals, hot oatmeal, bread for toast, and bagels. We met Leslie who did the cooking and made sure there was plenty of everything for everyone who came to the dining area. She was very friendly to everyone in the dining area too. She deserves a 10 out of 10 for excellent customer service. And last, but not least, we would like to give Tracy, who worked the front-desk a 10 out of 10 for her friendly and welcoming customer service too. Thank you ladies!
