I absolutely love ensaymadas from EP! I called the 844 number on the company's website and unfortunately no one picked up, but a few minutes later Chari (THEEEEE Chari, owner and creator of these delicious fluffy bread pastries) texted me. I asked her if it would be possible to pick up some ensaymadas today at the Canoga Park location. She said her assistant would be there at 7:30pm for any pickup orders. I told her it was too late and she said I can go to their headquarters anytime. I told her it was too far for me and asked her if there would be anyone there tomorrow for pick up. She graciously told me that they're usually closed on the weekends but if her assistant goes there tomorrow, she would let me know. First of all, I love this place because the ensaymadas are delicious. As I said earlier, they're fluffy, moist, almost like I'm eating sugary, buttery air, but way more fulfilling than eating air. While most filipino bakeries do have ensaymadas, those ensaymadas are more dense. Eating a dense ensaymada makes me feel guilty. Also, EP has a variety of fun flavors that you just can't find at filipino bakeries -- flavors such as blue velvet caramel, salted duck egg, maple bacon... the list goes on! She has 22 rotating flavors! Secondly, I love that fact that Chari reaches out when she was unable to pick up the phone. She obviously has a lot of passion for this business and it shows. Let me tell you, once you step into this place it's like a little piece of heaven. We became fans of this place when they had a booth at the 626 Market 6 years ago. Since then it's been hard to get your hands on them. But now no worries since the store front opened up. We have not not come across a flavor we do not like .... Everything is delicious, lite, and fluffy. The staff was super nice and helpful ... cute little bakery with an aroma of sweetness . They have huge samples to try. I remember trying them out about 10 or so years ago when they were one of the vendors at the 626 night market. It was good then. And still just as good now! It was mostly catching them at different food events until now! They have a their own shop now ! Awesome to see them thrive and having their own storefront to visit now. 03.31.2018 FINALLY stopped by here to pick up and taste some of the yummy ensaymadas! As we approached the front door, there were at least 10 boxed orders sitting on a chair in her porch waiting for the mailman to pick up. They were gone by the time we left with our goodies. I picked out six then thought about it....and then we transferred our goodies to a box for one dozen. LOL! Chari had 19 flavors today! Good thing I went in knowing which ones I knew we wanted for sure...and picked up a few extra to try. I left with a mixed dozen of the following flavors: 1-Classic Ensaymada 1-Queso de Bola 2-Mocha Nutella 1-Berry Blue 2-Mango 1-Cookie Crumble 1-Oreo Cookie 1-Maple Bacon 1-Ube 1-Ube Halaya The brioche was light and buttery, not too sweet. The cream and flavoring on top balances it out well. The cream and/or flavors are not too sweet which is your typical take away when eating an ensaymada. The different flavors do step up the ensaymada expectation, though. It didn't seem like I was eating an ensaymada. Even my mother-in-law enjoyed the different flavors. Her favorite so far is the Mocha Nutella. Hubby definitely enjoyed his Cookie Crumble ensaymada. I felt bad I didn't get him more than one. So I guess we'll have to stop by and get more next time. Ten years ago, I was feeling homesick for my Titas' ensaymadas from Pampanga and decided to search the internet for a local supplier. Lo and behold, I found Ensaymada Project just across town. They are so soft and pillowy, perfect with coffee or tea. These are NOT the mass-produced, commercialized version. They use high quality ingredients, and you can taste it. By happy circumstance, I went to get a lamp fixed next door and discovered Ensaymada Project. Another food vendor at the Smorgasborg that makes me wish they have a location close to my home. First, ensaymada are a centuries old pastry that evolved over the years & by region. The Filipino classic usually is topped w/ cheese and sugar. But the Ensaymada Project has put a spin on their 18 flavors. Not all are available at the Smorgasborg. Some of the flavors are familiar in the Asian culture ( ube, mango, red bean & green tea) and some resemble a donut (maple bacon) All are soft, fluffy brioche with a thin layer of frosting and filling inside. Not willing to fill up, I only ate the ube (taro) very soft, great ube flavor and not too sweet or heavy. Very good! I also bought a mango and cookie butter crumb which I haven't tried yet, and will update this at a later date. At this weekly event, you can also buy them by the dozen, they make great gifts ( to yourself, cuz you're awesome! ) and are packaged in a nice box. These are also great for a sweet fix, without being too rich and overly sweet. I would definitely go back for more on my next trip. Drove from Irvine (while visiting my son) to Santa Clarita only to find out that the address is actually in a residential area. Called the number on the website and she texted back right away. It is a house and not a store BUT it is worth the drive and the confusion. These ensaymada has all the flavors and it is so moist and not overwhelmingly sweet. Very good with your tea or coffee! I got half a dozen for $25 a girl there described it as a Filipino version of a cupcake but the base is brioche. Over the holidays I had bought 1/2 dozen boxes for family and completely forgot that I put a box aside in the freezer for my own family. Fun flavors! We had classic cheese, ube (my younger daughter's favorite), red velvet (my older daughter's favorite) salted caramel, mocha nutella, and the last one (I have no idea what flavor it was because it was eaten by someone in this house!). Needless to say, they're all very good - soft brioche bread with sweetened butter creme. If you freeze them like I did, eat them right away as the bread dried out after a few days. read more

Have heard about Enseymada Project and finally got to try the enseymadas at the Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture (FPAC). An enseymada is a Filipino sweet pastry usually topped with butter icing, sugar, and shredded cheese. It's enjoyed as a snack or breakfast item, and it's perfect with coffee. 4 stars! Enseymada Project does make the classic Filipino version but elevates the enseymada by offering different and creative flavors of enseymadas. There's Ube (Purple Yam), Mango, Oreo, Dulce de Leche, Maple Bacon, and even Red Velvet enseymadas to choose from! Out of the nontraditional enseymadas, the mango enseymada is my favorite for now and my least favorite is the maple bacon enseymada. The delicious mango cream works perfectly with the buttery sweet patry. On the other hand, the combination of the butter cream and the maple bacon bits on the maple bacon enseymada was way too rich to my liking. Why just 4 stars? The enseymadas are delicious, but I think they're a bit overpriced at $3.00 each. For that price, I want a bigger enseymada, and bigger classic versions are always available in Filipino bakeries. There is however a price break when purchased by the half dozen or dozen. Enseymada Project does not have a brick and mortar store as of yet, but I can definitely see it being a hit if partnered with a good coffee shop. The enseymadas are only available online through mail order (http://www.ensaymadaproject.com) or through outdoor food markets and festivals such as FPAC. We were at White Rabbit Café ordering sisig burritos not too long ago. Low and behold there were a few ensaymadas in front of us made by The Ensaymada Project. I've seen photos of The Ensaymada Project on Instagram and became intrigued. Ensaymada is a sweet bread traditionally with butter and sugar on top. There are variations with shredded cheddar cheese on top or with macapuno (sweet young coconut) or the bread is flavored with ube and pandan. The Ensaymada Project expands the typical variety of 18 ensaymadas to include American flavors such as moca nuttella, blueberry cream cheese, red and blue velvet variations, green tea red bean, maple bacon to name a few. They also have they traditional Filipino flavors. Thanks to Caroline V.'s sweet tooth, I was able to try the mocha Nutella. The bread is a brioche which is sweet and marbled with Nutella. The top is frosted with a mocha icing. You'll find The Ensaymada Project at White Rabbit Café and food truck. My 5th star is usually reserved for good Michelin Star restaurants. Yup, as hard it is to believe, I've questioned how some places received a Star. I honestly feel this place has earned my 5th . Ensymada is basically a soft airy pastry roll topped with a spread of margarine, then sprinkled with sugar and sometimes with shredded Cheddar cheese as well. Pretty simple and, unfortunately, boring. A family member gave us a box of Ensymada from Ensymada Project. I didn't even give it a second look until a few days later. I had one with shredded Gouda and BAM! I was hooked. Far from being a typical Ensymada. This was next level. The sugar and cheese were nicely incorporated into the butter, which sat on top of the pastry like a legit layer of flavorful icing and not just a spatter of butter here and there as in the typical Ensymada. There are many flavors ranging from more American red velvet, hazelnut flavors, to more traditional Filipino flavors like Ube, Buko Pandan, Salted Egg, etc. Well worth the visit. read more

I've been following Ensaymada project for about a year now on Instagram. I've been wanting to try their ensaymada for so long now. It's very easy to order online but I do prefer to go to a store and look at everything i want in person. Unfortunately the majority of stores that have the ensaymadas are in the northern LA area and they are based in Santa Clarita. I'm never there... My cousin ended up asking me what I wanted for my bday and I told her I want to try ensaymada project. She ended up ordering me Chari's choice 1 dozen. My dozen included red velvet, Oreo, classic cheese, ube, pink milk chocolate, and mango. 2 of each flavor. I didn't like that the flavors weren't labeled. They have 17 flavors and post often to Instagram so it will be easy to figure out. Of the 6, my favorite was the pink milk chocolate. It has a milk chocolate cream in the middle. The other 5 didn't have anything inside. Everything tasted amazing. The bread was so yummy and I love the different flavors on top. Much different than the traditional cheese ensaymadas. The ensaymadas were still good even a few days after it arrived. I definitely want to try more of the flavors soon. Ensaymadas are always great with my morning coffee. :) read more

Having heard about the Ensaymada Project on social media, I was curious to try one. 1. What is ensaymada? It is described by the Ensaymada Project as a "butter bun." More specifically though, an ensaymada is a sweet Filipino pastry with origins from Spain. It is usually topped with butter and sugar. 2. What is the Ensaymada Project? The Ensaymada Project serves ensaymada with a modern twist. Flavors include ube, red velvet, blueberry cream cheese, salted caramel, and Nutella. 3. How did it taste? I don't think the Ensaymada Project does justice to the Filipino classic. We went with the blueberry cream cheese ensaymada, and It was a major miss for me. Unlike the original ensaymada, which is known to be moist, the blueberry cream cheese ensaymada was very dry. To make matters worse, the blueberry cream cheese on top tasted artificial; I felt like I was consuming plastic. The berry tale at 85 degrees is a much better tasting option if you're looking for a blueberry cream cheese bread. For those on the look-out for good ensaymada, Muhlach Ensaymada and Mary Grace are the best, but unfortunately are Philippines-based chains. Nice try, Ensaymada Project. read more

I LOVE THESE LITTLE, FILIPINO ENSAYMADAS! The owner concocts them at home and delivers/ ships them (nationwide too!). I'm glad she's based in SoCal so it's easier access to these lil goodies. She has like 7 or 8 main flavors and then occasionally she makes flavors like maple bacon. I needa try that one. I got a dozen for about $30. Tried the Ube regular, Ube Macupuno, oreo, red velvet, regular and blueberry cream cheese. I really only liked the blueberry cream + oreo + Ube Macupuno. But to each their own. As I was instructed I specified the flavors we wanted in the comments of the order. 6 were ones we chose, the other 6 are random flavors that they put in the box and no one in my household wants. The mango had a hint of sweetness but the ube and red velvet tasted like pandesal with icing on top. Not flavored icing just some cream with sugar in it. This is seriously so delicious!! I got it as a gift and it's so drool worthy. It's my first time having ensaymadas and I'm hooked °\(*‿*)/° The packaging is super cute! The ensaymadas are packed tightly into a paper box that has a floral pattern inside. I believe ensaymadas are Filipino brioches - or so I've been told. The bread itself is so moist and soft. I love the added flavor on top (they have so many to choose from). My favorite so far is the classic cheese. I definitely recommend this to everyone! It's not super cheesy and is more on the sweeter side. The ube was good too, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the classic cheese. Just pop it into the microwave for 10-20 seconds and enjoy the good life! You don't want it too hot or else the bread tastes dry. read more
