Taqueria Jalisciense Baes - Pastor on hard taco, supreme.

The atmosphere was cozy…read moreand homey, and our waitress was welcoming and friendly -- that part was a solid experience. Now, the food is where things got a little complicated. We stuck strictly to tacos, and honestly, it was hit or miss depending on your taste. I ordered the pastor and chorizo. The pastor had decent flavor but could have been juicier. The chorizo was a letdown for me -- it had a pasty consistency, almost like refried beans, and was heavy on potatoes, which wasn't what I was hoping for. I also tried a hard shell pastor supreme, expecting an authentic house-fried tortilla, but it reminded me more of what you'd get at Taco Bell. My husband went with carne asada, chicharrón, and chicken. The carne asada was juicy but the flavor just didn't hit the way I expected. The chicken was good but came shredded. The chicharrón had solid flavor -- I just personally struggle with the texture, though that one's on me since I knew going in! One thing all the tacos had in common: the meat portions felt too small for the size of the tortillas. Personally, I wouldn't classify this as truly authentic Mexican, but that's just my palate. My husband, on the other hand, loved everything -- so clearly taste is subjective! Don't just take my word for it. Give this place a try yourself and form your own opinion. It may not have been for me, but it just might be for you!

We tried the tacos -- the carne asada was a little on the dry side, but the al pastor totally made up for it (so flavorful!). The pollo flautas were solid too, but the real standout for me was the cucumber lime fresca -- so refreshing and absolutely delicious! Definitely planning to come back for another round of frescas and to try some of their soups next time. Cozy little spot worth a visit!

Wow. I can't believe a whole year to get over here and we live right across the street…read more Let's start out with the chips and sauce of the chips are amazing thick hot and fresh salsa is flavorful and just the right amount of hot spice. I got the fish tacos that came out hot and delicious. Scott got the fajitas with chicken steak and shrimp out of all the fajitas I've never seen one come with a big piece of cooked cactus on top. It was so good! We went here on a Saturday evening and it was not busy at all which is not a good thing It did have live music and we enjoyed listening to and play all sorts of unique music on his acoustic guitar. I think this is my new favorite Mexican restaurant I definitely will be back!

We have been meaning to dine in at Alebrije for a while now and finally decided tonight (Saturday…read morenight) would be the night. It's been a long crazy week going back and forth to concerts and Bike Week, we just wanted to eat out somewhere close to home then come home to rest. We arrived around 7:15pm and were promptly greeted and seated. The restaurant is full of vibrant colors and overall is very beautiful inside. They have a really nice bar in the middle of the restaurant and a small stage for live music. Fortunately for us, tonight was Saturday and they have live music on Saturdays. The musician that was playing tonight was Alejandro de la Fuente. He was an amazing guitarist and kept us entertained the duration of our meal. Our server, Semardis, was friendly and attentive; she took great care of us during our visit. I like that she brought over a carafe of water for us so we could keep our drinks topped off as needed. We decided on the Fajita Ranchera ($23) and the Baja Fish Taco's ($18) for dinner. Our meals were out fast, literally at 7:34pm, which is crazy fast. Our food was very fresh and hot. I loved that the Fajitas come with sausage and cactus, I usually only see cactus served with the Molcajete but I'm glad it came with our fajitas because it was freshly grilled, juicy, and delicious. Nancy really enjoyed her Fish Tacos too; they were freshly fried and crispy. Even with the coleslaw and dressing mixed in, the taco was not cold, which is great. Note that they have put a note on the door stating that they will be charging for refills on chips and salsa. We asked for a refill on the salsa only but were not charged extra for it. Maybe the statement is for customers that are not buying meals, who knows, but times are tough and don't mind paying as long as it's not exorbitant. I really wish business was busier for this restaurant. There were only two other couples in the restaurant when we arrived and when we were leaving there was two four tops, which has got to hit-hard on a Saturday evening when this place should be slammed. They did a great job with the service, food, and entertainment, I would like to see business pick up. Staff does a great job keeping tables and the dining room clean however the restrooms could use a good deep cleaning and there was a slight sewer smell near the restrooms, which could be off-putting for most. Pricing is comparable to other Mexican restaurants in the area and they offer great appetizer discounts on Wednesdays, so keep that in mind if you want to save. All-in-all, we had a wonderful dinner here and experience tonight. Good job Alebrije Mexican Grill & Tequila Bar, we will be back!

Once you step inside you are greeted with artwork on all the walls and just a well decorated space. In no manner does it make you question if this is a Mexican restaurant. Menu wise they have everything you would expect plus some you wouldn't including burgers and some kid options that are in no way Mexican food. It is great to include these for those picky eaters to not be left out but I recommend even those people should give something more authentic a try. Drink wise they have all the non-alcoholic options plus cocktails and beers too. My wife snagged a Pina Colada and I got a jalapeño margarita. Pina Colada was fantastic and the margarita was solid with many jalapeños cut up in the drink but didn't have as much of a spicy kick that I expected. Food wise I got their Enchiladas Mi Bandera (basically three different meats and three different sauces) and my wife got the Chimichangas Norteñas (large). Service wise was definitely the lacking aspect of our visit. Minimal check ins from our server with an extremely long wait for food especially compared to similar restaurants. Also my wife asked about the size of their chimichangas and was told roughly half the actual size so went with two. I did enjoy her leftovers though but was crazy how off they were on the size. Portions are definitely large for many of their dishes including the giant burrito another family member got, absolutely massive. Food was good, (have had better) with lacking service in an awesome designed restaurant. Overall middle of the road and would check other spots nearby before returning.
