The wait to get your order took a minute but when stuff started coming out it was good. The queso was cold ish but decent. The salsa was good. We had birria, tacos, and fajitas. DH and I decided to try this Mexican restaurant in the center of DeLand. The restaurant is all tables with comfortable chairs with nice decorations on the walls. It's a small place but everything is fresh and delicious! We went there for lunch and we're greeted right away. We ordered 2 Coca Colas but unfortunately they only had bottles. That honestly is my only complaint. DH ordered a tostada and a "wet burrito" and I ordered the carne asada fajitas. Everything was SO0O good! The tostada was delicious, crisp and all the flavors worked perfectly together! The burrito was delicious and the quantity was more than enough! The quality of the food is fantastic! My fajitas were extremely delicious and the rice, beans and tortillas were awesome. The server was friendly and helpful with input and answers to our questions. She even let us try a white drink to see if we wanted to have some. DH ordered a watermelon Spanish drink which he loved and said it was refreshing. We took two orders of churros home which were delicious! At one point there was standing room only with people waiting for the people that were eating to finish so they could sit down. During all this time, people came in and out picking up their to go orders! They have specials on Tuesdays (taco Tuesday), Wednesday (wacky Wednesday-street tacos), and Thursday (Torta Thursday). Ordered steak enchiladas and a chicken chimichanga through DoorDash.. The Steak was nothing but salt, I used the rice and beans to diminish the salt level in my mouth. The chicken chimichanga had absolutely no flavor of any kind. This was one of the worst meals I've ever had. Will not get food from here again read more

Arrived for a late lunch with my mom (2pm) and we were seated immediately. You can dine-in or order up front to go. They have indoor & outdoor seating (they are also dog friendly if eating outside). Tasty lunch spot but nothing extremely memorable as far as I am concerned. The prices are definitely spot on though. The mid week specials are hard to beat according to my wallet anyways. The servers are really nice and do a good job getting everyone served in a timely fashion. The restaurant itself is very small (probably 8-10 tables) so quick turnover is likely key as the place definitely seemed busy on a Tuesday afternoon. The food itself really didn't wow me. The free chips and salsa were my favorite part. The rice and beans were mostly bland and the tacos and quesadillas were good. Nothing extraordinary. The toppings were fresh and your typical findings. Cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream. Read: stuff I could easily get from Publix and stuff inside a homemade taco. No fancy slaws or salsas to be found here. All in all, it made for a fairly satisfying lunch. It's not something I would ever envision myself craving or seeking out again. This restaurant is a great family-owned, local place. The interior is clean and staff is always friendly. I've tried a couple different items off of their menu but this time I ordered a chorizo burrito. The portion was adequate for the price you pay, and I appreciated how the "wet" Ingredients like the sour cream, lettuce, and tomato were served on the side from the actual burrito. It made reheating the left overs very convenient. I also ordered a side of chips, queso & guacamole. Everything was delicious. The only thing I can complain about. Is that the tacos weren't crispy and a little soggy. This 1-star, bottom-of-the-toilet-bucket (BTB) rating is not about the taste of food at El Taco Rico Mexican Kitchen. In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to find another taco joint in Deland as tasty as the Ric'. This BTB rating is only about the principle of what is and is not done in the culinary arts when preparing food for other people. Let me explain... I don't mind waiting for food, the everytime-atleast two hours I wait at The Garlic in New Smyrna Beach is a testament to that. But what one cannot and must not do is come to the table where you are patiently, bring you your order late, and finger check your food like some prom dates we knew and say, "Oh, yeah, it's chorizo." When the young waitress took my food back to the kitchen, I got up to watch what they were doing - aka, I was suspicious as to whether they would just throw my food back on the hot griddle. And when the chef threw my food back on the griddle, I vocally interloped: Me: "Hey! You can't do that." Chef: "Well, this is chorizo and you ordered chorizo." Me: "No, no. The waitress stuck her fingers in those tacos and now its back on the grill." Chef: "Oh, I didn't know that." You see, when you own a restaurant you can't cook for people like you cook for your germ-bearing kids at home. There is not only a legal, health inspection standard of care we as customers expect, but there is just the rule of how-would-I-want-a-cheft-at-another-establishment to handle my experience in a series of unfortunate events. So, then, it is on principle that I won't ever go back to this place. That is because they did what they did when they thought no one was watching, and, it is when no one is watching, you still should always act in the Right way. I ordered the wet burrito with marinated pork. This was not wet but very dry. The black beans were very dry and hard. It appears the beans were scraped off the bottom and sides after sitting all day Tonight we are making soup out of the leftovers. My husband had the quesadilla with marinated pork.
