Our insurance covered $30.00 per day, up to a total of $750.00. The base rental was $24.99 and we opted up a size for an additional $10.00 per day. A pending amount of $50.00 was to be put on our car for incidentals etc. 2 charges came through. One for $50.00 and a second for $5.00. Car was picked up on a Tuesday - mid morning. We got a call on the following Monday that our car was ready. We were unable to pick it up until Thursday, so we made arrangements to pay the rental on our own for Tuesday through Thursday - 2 additional days. $55.00 hold was released at this time. When we got the receipt for the rental the total charges for the rental was $382.62. If my insurance covered $30 per day for 8 days ($240) my charges should have been $142.62. We were charged over $200.00!!!! Wait for it - it gets even better. When we called and challenged the charges, they told us our insurance company only paid thru Friday (3 days and 3 days before our car was even ready for pick-up). If I use their math, we would have been responsible for $292.62. They then called back stating they got our rental time "extended" and our insurance company was covering until Tuesday. Back to the original numbers - right? Oh no. They billed our card 2 additional times, once for just over $170.00 and a second time for $.18 - using billing codes that allowed our card to go in the RED more than $170.00. This card is a Social Security card and has now been flagged for fraud. We can't get into the account online, check for potential refunds made to the card, and all future payments will be "held" until the fraud flag is removed. Calls to the rental company last Friday and again today have fallen on deaf ears. No one has bothered to return our calls. We also have alerted our insurance company because at this point we have no reason to believe they will be billed the correct amount either.
