    I rented originally from the Dulles airport, with a brand new Hyundai Kona with 500 miles on it. I…read moredrove the to the Westin in DC for an overnight stay. The next morning, I went into the garage and the car was completely dead. I had not left the lights on and sometimes this happens with new cars that have been sitting for too long. I thought I was in luck when I realized this Hertz location was located in the Westin. The staff came into the garage and tried to start the car -- completely dead. The following is a recap of 17 different issues that transpired over the next 15 hours: Issue 1: They had to uncover the lock to try the physical key and open the door -- they didn't use a proper screwdriver and used the physical key instead to pry off the cap, keying the door in the process! Issue 2: They thought the battery was dead, but didn't have a battery jumper onsite, so said I would have to call Roadside Assistance. Issue 3: I had to leave for several meetings and I asked if I could swap the car with another one that they had on site. They said they could not accept a Hyundai or Kia because they get broken in all the time. Instead, I had to call Roadside Assistance. Issue 4: I called Roadside Assistance and after a 15 minute hold, they said they could send someone onsite, but it could take up to 1.5 hours. I had to leave for my meeting, so I asked if the roadside visit could be scheduled for 4 pm when I was back onsite. They said that would not be possible and I would have to call back. Issue 5: I ended up having to take 3 Ubers throughout the day since I didn't have a working rental car -- $103.44 later. Issue 6: That evening I called Roadside Assistance and after a 20 minute hold, they said they could send someone with a battery starter. Issue 7: Roadside Assistance texted that it would be upwards of 90 minutes to come onsite. Issue 8: Roadside Assistance arrived and tried multiple times to jumpstart the car with a battery starter. Car would not start after multiple attempts. Issue 9: I had to call Roadside Assistance again. After a 20 minute hold, the system transferred me to a live person and I was disconnected. Issue 10: I had to call Roadside Assistance again. After a 20 minute hold, they scheduled a 2nd tow truck to come. I told them that the garage clearance was 6'5". I asked if I could head to Reagan Airport to get a replacement car first, or if I had to wait for the tow. Roadside Assistance said they did not know -- it depends on the staff at Reagan. Issue 11: I received a text from the tow company that it would take 2 hours. Issue 12: I realized that 2 hours would put me past the 11 pm closure at Hertz Reagan Airport, so I wouldn't have the car for my next morning's meetings. I called Hertz Reagan Airport directly to see if I could pick up a car before the tow arrived. No one picked up. Issue 13: I called Roadside Assistance again and after a 20 minute hold, I asked them if I could pick up a car before the tow arrived. They did not know and tried calling Hertz Reagan Airport directly -- no one picked up. They said to just go and take my chances. Issue 14: I had to take an Uber to Hertz Reagan since my rental car didn't work: $45.37. Issue 15: Successful rental car pickup at Hertz Reagan and arrived back at the Westin hotel, *before* the 2nd tow truck arrived. Issue 16: 2nd tow truck arrived, taller than 6'5" in height. They could not enter, but would try a battery jumper instead. Issue 17: Despite me telling Roadside Assistance exactly where the car was located in the garage (P2, Yellow Section, near the Hotel elevator), and telling the tow company the same information, I spent 15 minutes wandering the garage trying to find the tow truck driver with the battery jumper. Final Resolution: Driver was able to jump start the car and I drove it to the surface, where he towed it away. Total resolution time - 9 am discovery; 6 pm re-engaging Roadside Assistance, 12 am successful tow. Most of this could have been avoided if this Westin Hertz location looked out for the customer and swapped cars to begin with.

    This place is not great but fine. They did not have the car I reserved, or any gas cars when I…read morearrived. They only had electrics, ugh. Fine, I took the electric. They did not try to pressure me for additional coverage, though I already declined all of them during the reservation. When you leave the garage, you check out with someone in a hertz booth, which is normal. But at Union Station, you have to get a parking voucher from this person to exit the garage. This person did not automatically give this voucher to me, I had to request it. Makes me wonder how I would have gotten out otherwise. When you get to the gate to leave the garage, you put the voucher in the kiosk, but nothing actually happens. You have to press the help button, someone in the Union Station booth buzzes the gate open, and then on your way out, that person comes out to take the voucher. Seems really inefficient and an additional and unnecessary task for the Union Station attendant. The car wasn't completely clean, but it wasn't disgustingly dirty either. I get this is a train station and not an airport, where they have better cleaning equipment. Charging the vehicle is a pain, but that comes with the territory with electric vehicles. The Hertz rep told me I had to download the EVGo app to do this. Fine. My problem is, when I took possession of the vehicle, the Hertz staff said it was charged to 60%, so I can just bring it back at 60%. I guess it's my fault that I did not read receipt before leaving the garage, because the receipt said it was 100% charged. This means, to avoid a surcharge of bringing the car back less than what was listed, I had to bring the car back at 100%, 40% more than I got it, which probably cost an extra $20. Before returning the vehicle, I charged it at the Union Station garage location. The charging booth was so hard to find. There is no signage directly you in the garage, but the second floor location is towards the SIXT return side. Note: if you pay with a credit card directly with the charging booth, as opposed to using the app, the charging station there puts a $100 hold on your credit card, and remains on there for a week. I returned the key to the Hertz booth at 9:43am, but they processed the return at 9:55am, which resulted me in incurring an extra hour charge. Later I was charged $41 for a toll pass. I did not take any toll roads. I requested Hertz to show me what tolls I supposedly went through, they did not respond. I inquired about the rental being clocked out later than when it was returned, they did not respond. In what should have been a rental that cost less than $40 (rental price was $35, and I only drove 55 miles), it ended up being $120 ($35 for the initial rental cost, $12 for a erroneous extra hour, $31 bucks for charging when it should be like $5, and $41 for tolls I did not use). In conclusion, I had a crappy experience and do not recommend using Hertz at this location. Tips for the future: -Reserve your car at least a week in advance. This doesn't guarantee you'll get a car, but most rental companies at Union Station do not take same day reservations. -Have multiple, cancelable rental reservations with other rental companies in case they don't have your vehicle. Make sure once you get a car, cancel the other reservations before any fees are charged. This means you'll probably have to stagger your reservation times. -Take videos of the car when you pick it up and when you return it. -Take a picture of the gas level and mileage during pick up and return. -Inspect your receipt before leaving with the car to ensure the fuel/charge matches so you are not responsible for fueling up the car more than you have to. -When you return the car, get a physical receipt so they have to process the return right away and not later, causing you to pay more for an extended time. -Get there early to familiarize yourself with the garage so you're not confused (where the return drop off is, the key drop off if returning after hours, where the charging station is) or late when returning the car.

    Horrible experience at the Hertz in Union station. The mini van I rented was not ready when the…read morerental contract began and I had to wait for the car to be cleaned. The Hertz staff also did not check the road worthiness of the van and one of the tires was 12 lbs low on air. While both of these issues were eventually solved at the pickup, it was frustrating and the staff really did not seem to give a crap about customer service/experience. The most disturbing issue is they have bilked me for $199.73 for a bogus fuel charge. The van was only driven 36 miles and returned full because the gas gauge did not move. There was no need to fuel it. Hertz charged me for 17 gallons of gas at $11.63 per gallon for an overnight rental that was driven exactly 36 miles. Do not rent from this location and tell your friends not to either. Hertz refuses to refund the money because I do not have a fuel receipt for a van that did not need fuel. This is a scam and needs to be looked at. It is clear that Hertz is using this to pad their profits by up charging customers for fuel on return and then refusing to refund their money unless we can prove the vehicle was fueled. This is an unfair business practice. No reasonable person would charge someone for 17 gallons of gas when their own records show only about a gallon could have possibly been used. On top of all of this even if you desire to speak to someone to resolve the issue, you cannot as the automated call options for the local office refuse to connect you to a live person. If you call the home office, you can only speak to an AI generated help robot that also cannot solve any issues. I will not rent from Hertz again.

It would not come close to fitting in my normal size parking spaces at work and home (I live and work in a Washington DC which parking space is always limited). I looked at the customer service agent in disbelief. He was not kidding. I had to wait over an hour for him to bring a car from another location...and he was not happy to have to do it. He was one of those "used car salesmen" types...sickeningly friendly - so insincere. 2. The car I was given seemed ok but neither he nor i noticed what had to have been a hairline crack in the back windshield because when, a couple of days later, I shut the door and stepped on the brake to start the car (I had not yet touched the button to start the car, I had only stepped on the brake), the slight motion shattered the entirety of the back windshield. It was shocking to say the least. I returned the car and he refused to even speak to me about it, saying it was my fault. My insurance was charged WAY TOO MUCH for the windshield - over $700 - and I had to pay a $250 deductible. They actually made money on it!

Because of that, this experience was especially surprising and deeply disappointing. I am very familiar with how Enterprise typically operates and this location fell far below that standard. The only difference this time was that the rental was through insurance, and I was treated accordingly. I rented a vehicle from this location on Friday through my insurance company. I called ahead to let them know I would be arriving later than originally planned and was given a confirmed pickup time of 1:30 PM. I arrived at 1:19 PM, within that window, and was told my reserved vehicle had already been given to someone else. I was then told I had been called about this, which was untrue. No call was made. Rather than being offered a comparable replacement to my insured vehicle--a 2018 Chevy Equinox I was only offered two options: an electric vehicle or a Honda Civic. Neither is equivalent to the SUV my insurance was paying for. This was despite there being other comparable vehicles visibly available on the lot. The electric vehicle I was handed smelled strongly of smoke and was poorly cleaned. I was told it had only 30 miles of charge and would require eight hours to recharge, yet no instructions were provided. Once driving, it became immediately clear that the remaining charge equated to about 27 minutes of drive time, which was not enough to reach my mechanic and return home. The vehicle would have stalled somewhere on the road, leaving me stranded with no knowledge of how to recharge it. This created a serious safety issue, as I am responsible for transporting my son, sister, and mother. Being sent off in an undercharged electric vehicle with no guidance was not just inconvenient it was dangerous. When I returned the vehicle immediately upon realizing this, I was then offered a Honda Civic, again not equivalent. No apology was offered for the misinformation, the lack of preparation, or the fact that I watched an equivalent vehicle being rented to someone else during this interaction. No solutions were provided. I canceled the insurance rental at this location. However, the branch failed to properly close out the rental. Had I not personally contacted my insurance adjuster twice to create a documented timestamp, it would have appeared as though I had rented a vehicle when I did not. As a long-time Enterprise customer who rents frequently for business, this experience was shocking. I will never return to this location, and I strongly recommend that anyone renting under insurance avoid this branch entirely.

    My experience at the Enterprise location at 2301 Bladensburg Road, NE this morning was extremely…read moredisappointing. I reserved a compact vehicle the night before and informed the representative that I would arrive at 7:30 a.m. when the branch opened. At the time of the reservation, there was no indication that this would present any issues. Upon arrival, however, I was informed by the Enterprise representative, Mr. Danny Calder, that no compact cars were available and that only a Jeep remained on the lot. Although I was told I could take the Jeep at the same rate, I expressed concern regarding the comfort and practicality of driving a much larger vehicle. I also explained that if I was not comfortable with the Jeep, I would return to exchange it for the compact car I originally reserved. Throughout the interaction, Mr. Calder was noticeably nonchalant, impatient, and unprofessional. When I inquired about the 15% discount for rentals over three days--something I was instructed to request when making the reservation--he stated that he would need to cancel and rebook my reservation because it was "booked online." I clarified that I had spoken directly with a representative the night before and had not booked anything online. When he requested my ID and insurance, he handled the documents in a manner that appeared hesitant and uncomfortable, which further contributed to the unprofessional tone. I also asked about the federal government discount that I have consistently received in the past. He initially stated that they "don't do that," which is incorrect, and only applied a 5% discount after I presented my federal government ID badge.Despite having a reservation for an early pickup, I still had to wait for the Jeep to be cleaned, causing additional delays. This undermines the purpose of reserving a vehicle in advance to ensure a timely and efficient pickup. Overall, I am extremely dissatisfied with the lack of professionalism, the failure to honor my reservation, the inadequate discount, and the overall customer service I received. Additionally, Mr. Calder did not assist with adjusting the seat or demonstrating basic vehicle functions--assistance that the Pentagon Police ultimately provided when I arrived at work. These are tasks that should have been addressed at the time of pickup but were not. This experience could have been handled far more effectively, and this location has significant room for improvement.
