    Long lines still. They need more staff and a Hertz Fast Lane for Gold and President Circle members. This would shorten lines for members that can grab their keys can go and the staff can focus on non-members

    An unabashedly wretched spot. Excels at nothing. I am a President's Circle member (through a credit card) and got a great AAA discount -- $25/day for a long weekend. That's basically where the pros end. Upon arrival, I was told that the virtual card number I had used to book the car wasn't workable, even when I tried to use the actual card and showed proof of the virtual number. The employee kindly cancelled my old reservation and rebooked under the card I had with me, but the process was unnerving (I was first told to call corporate, and was on hold for 10 mins before she came upon this solution). Even though I A) am a President's Circle member, and B) had proof of identity through my ID and the full card number used, Hertz didn't really care. Whatever! The car was a bummer. It was a Buick SUV with 50k+ miles on it, a 30% full tank, and an overwhelming cigarette smell. When I got into it, I genuinely thought it was a mistake, like maybe it was an employee's car. No! This is the rental car. I've never encountered a rental car this old and dirty before. I was befuddled by having it at 30% full; she told me to return it at that level, which seems so counterintuitive. When will they ever fill it up?! The other reviews are right, and uniformly point to inadequate service and similar issues (cigarette smell, low gas). They were overstaffed on a Saturday (5 people) yet could not do much. I will continue going here if I need to because it's cheap and I get good rewards, but I'm totally not happy about it. I've never had such a subpar rental car experience before. (I had previously gone here in May 2023 and had a nice car and a slow service experience.)

    I returned a car on 1/1/2024, which was the return date. I gave the keys to a hertz representative and was told they'd email a receipt. 6 days later, they are still charging for an unreturned rental. over $600 on our card. I've called hertz customer service 6 times. They say the same thing - "they'll call the office". Obviously they haven't or are lying. The phone number for the Union station office is disconnected so we can't get in touch with them. This is the worst rental experience I've ever had. This is a picture of the rental car at the hertz counter at the time of return. AVOID THIS COMPANY.

    Poor management, very difficult to locate, unwarranted and impossible to remove fees. Would recommend avoiding renting with this business.

    I rented originally from the Dulles airport, with a brand new Hyundai Kona with 500 miles on it. I…read moredrove the to the Westin in DC for an overnight stay. The next morning, I went into the garage and the car was completely dead. I had not left the lights on and sometimes this happens with new cars that have been sitting for too long. I thought I was in luck when I realized this Hertz location was located in the Westin. The staff came into the garage and tried to start the car -- completely dead. The following is a recap of 17 different issues that transpired over the next 15 hours: Issue 1: They had to uncover the lock to try the physical key and open the door -- they didn't use a proper screwdriver and used the physical key instead to pry off the cap, keying the door in the process! Issue 2: They thought the battery was dead, but didn't have a battery jumper onsite, so said I would have to call Roadside Assistance. Issue 3: I had to leave for several meetings and I asked if I could swap the car with another one that they had on site. They said they could not accept a Hyundai or Kia because they get broken in all the time. Instead, I had to call Roadside Assistance. Issue 4: I called Roadside Assistance and after a 15 minute hold, they said they could send someone onsite, but it could take up to 1.5 hours. I had to leave for my meeting, so I asked if the roadside visit could be scheduled for 4 pm when I was back onsite. They said that would not be possible and I would have to call back. Issue 5: I ended up having to take 3 Ubers throughout the day since I didn't have a working rental car -- $103.44 later. Issue 6: That evening I called Roadside Assistance and after a 20 minute hold, they said they could send someone with a battery starter. Issue 7: Roadside Assistance texted that it would be upwards of 90 minutes to come onsite. Issue 8: Roadside Assistance arrived and tried multiple times to jumpstart the car with a battery starter. Car would not start after multiple attempts. Issue 9: I had to call Roadside Assistance again. After a 20 minute hold, the system transferred me to a live person and I was disconnected. Issue 10: I had to call Roadside Assistance again. After a 20 minute hold, they scheduled a 2nd tow truck to come. I told them that the garage clearance was 6'5". I asked if I could head to Reagan Airport to get a replacement car first, or if I had to wait for the tow. Roadside Assistance said they did not know -- it depends on the staff at Reagan. Issue 11: I received a text from the tow company that it would take 2 hours. Issue 12: I realized that 2 hours would put me past the 11 pm closure at Hertz Reagan Airport, so I wouldn't have the car for my next morning's meetings. I called Hertz Reagan Airport directly to see if I could pick up a car before the tow arrived. No one picked up. Issue 13: I called Roadside Assistance again and after a 20 minute hold, I asked them if I could pick up a car before the tow arrived. They did not know and tried calling Hertz Reagan Airport directly -- no one picked up. They said to just go and take my chances. Issue 14: I had to take an Uber to Hertz Reagan since my rental car didn't work: $45.37. Issue 15: Successful rental car pickup at Hertz Reagan and arrived back at the Westin hotel, *before* the 2nd tow truck arrived. Issue 16: 2nd tow truck arrived, taller than 6'5" in height. They could not enter, but would try a battery jumper instead. Issue 17: Despite me telling Roadside Assistance exactly where the car was located in the garage (P2, Yellow Section, near the Hotel elevator), and telling the tow company the same information, I spent 15 minutes wandering the garage trying to find the tow truck driver with the battery jumper. Final Resolution: Driver was able to jump start the car and I drove it to the surface, where he towed it away. Total resolution time - 9 am discovery; 6 pm re-engaging Roadside Assistance, 12 am successful tow. Most of this could have been avoided if this Westin Hertz location looked out for the customer and swapped cars to begin with.

    The service here is terrible. In the last two months, I've rented two cars from this Hertz…read morelocation. Never again!! The first time I had to wait for a long time because there was only one person working the desk, but I got a decent car. The second time, there was a huge delay because they had promised too many rentals. I waited for an hour to get my car (still that one unfriendly lady at the counter); there was a super long line; and there were probably 5-6 other groups waiting for their cars. When I finally got the car, it smelled like smoke and a faint hint of marijuana. By then, I was late to my appointment and desperate so I took it. Overall, a terrible experience. Do not rent from this Hertz (or from Hertz at all). Note: somehow none of the other rental car agencies had large groups of people waiting around and desperate for a car. They did not have extra cars to rent, but managed not to overbook in such a massive way.

I looked at the customer service agent in disbelief. He was not kidding. I had to wait over an hour for him to bring a car from another location...and he was not happy to have to do it. He was one of those "used car salesmen" types...sickeningly friendly - so insincere. 2. The car I was given seemed ok but neither he nor i noticed what had to have been a hairline crack in the back windshield because when, a couple of days later, I shut the door and stepped on the brake to start the car (I had not yet touched the button to start the car, I had only stepped on the brake), the slight motion shattered the entirety of the back windshield. It was shocking to say the least. I returned the car and he refused to even speak to me about it, saying it was my fault. My insurance was charged WAY TOO MUCH for the windshield - over $700 - and I had to pay a $250 deductible. They actually made money on it!

    I have rented vehicles from Enterprise for years, regularly and consistently, for business travel…read moreacross the country. Because of that, this experience was especially surprising and deeply disappointing. I am very familiar with how Enterprise typically operates and this location fell far below that standard. The only difference this time was that the rental was through insurance, and I was treated accordingly. I rented a vehicle from this location on Friday through my insurance company. I called ahead to let them know I would be arriving later than originally planned and was given a confirmed pickup time of 1:30 PM. I arrived at 1:19 PM, within that window, and was told my reserved vehicle had already been given to someone else. I was then told I had been called about this, which was untrue. No call was made. Rather than being offered a comparable replacement to my insured vehicle--a 2018 Chevy Equinox I was only offered two options: an electric vehicle or a Honda Civic. Neither is equivalent to the SUV my insurance was paying for. This was despite there being other comparable vehicles visibly available on the lot. The electric vehicle I was handed smelled strongly of smoke and was poorly cleaned. I was told it had only 30 miles of charge and would require eight hours to recharge, yet no instructions were provided. Once driving, it became immediately clear that the remaining charge equated to about 27 minutes of drive time, which was not enough to reach my mechanic and return home. The vehicle would have stalled somewhere on the road, leaving me stranded with no knowledge of how to recharge it. This created a serious safety issue, as I am responsible for transporting my son, sister, and mother. Being sent off in an undercharged electric vehicle with no guidance was not just inconvenient it was dangerous. When I returned the vehicle immediately upon realizing this, I was then offered a Honda Civic, again not equivalent. No apology was offered for the misinformation, the lack of preparation, or the fact that I watched an equivalent vehicle being rented to someone else during this interaction. No solutions were provided. I canceled the insurance rental at this location. However, the branch failed to properly close out the rental. Had I not personally contacted my insurance adjuster twice to create a documented timestamp, it would have appeared as though I had rented a vehicle when I did not. As a long-time Enterprise customer who rents frequently for business, this experience was shocking. I will never return to this location, and I strongly recommend that anyone renting under insurance avoid this branch entirely.

I reserved a compact vehicle the night before and informed the representative that I would arrive at 7:30 a.m. when the branch opened. At the time of the reservation, there was no indication that this would present any issues. Upon arrival, however, I was informed by the Enterprise representative, Mr. Danny Calder, that no compact cars were available and that only a Jeep remained on the lot. Although I was told I could take the Jeep at the same rate, I expressed concern regarding the comfort and practicality of driving a much larger vehicle. I also explained that if I was not comfortable with the Jeep, I would return to exchange it for the compact car I originally reserved. Throughout the interaction, Mr. Calder was noticeably nonchalant, impatient, and unprofessional. When I inquired about the 15% discount for rentals over three days--something I was instructed to request when making the reservation--he stated that he would need to cancel and rebook my reservation because it was "booked online." I clarified that I had spoken directly with a representative the night before and had not booked anything online. When he requested my ID and insurance, he handled the documents in a manner that appeared hesitant and uncomfortable, which further contributed to the unprofessional tone. I also asked about the federal government discount that I have consistently received in the past. He initially stated that they "don't do that," which is incorrect, and only applied a 5% discount after I presented my federal government ID badge.Despite having a reservation for an early pickup, I still had to wait for the Jeep to be cleaned, causing additional delays. This undermines the purpose of reserving a vehicle in advance to ensure a timely and efficient pickup. Overall, I am extremely dissatisfied with the lack of professionalism, the failure to honor my reservation, the inadequate discount, and the overall customer service I received. Additionally, Mr. Calder did not assist with adjusting the seat or demonstrating basic vehicle functions--assistance that the Pentagon Police ultimately provided when I arrived at work. These are tasks that should have been addressed at the time of pickup but were not. This experience could have been handled far more effectively, and this location has significant room for improvement.
