Me and my friend did the 1.5 hour Tea Journey and it was amazing!!! We got multiple brews of two aged teas from the 1980s, and in my opinion considering the age and quality of the tea $45 was a really good price. We had our session with the owner, who was very approachable and knowledgeable. He told us that all of the teas there are meticulously hand crafted, and he actually travels abroad directly to the source to interact with and forge relationships with the farmers. He says that none of his teas get bitter, and this was certainly our experience with the teas we tried. I also think he was a master brewer! Every pour was rich as well as smooth. One was a rare oolong from 1980 that was absolutely delicious with many subtle and tantalizing notes. The other was a 1980s shou puerh that was commensurately excellent! He also has sheng that old, but I wanted to try the shou because I have less experience with those. So the Tea Journey is certainly worth the price, and I bet the Private Tea Session is an equal steal at $25. The house is very nicely decorated and the garden where tea is also served was also very nice. I would highly recommend anything Enthea has to offer based on my experience. read more

If you're looking for hipster, this is it lol. The experience is unique for sure, and I like the adventure of it all. The tea itself was good, and the decor made me want to stop and stare. I was struggling to feel comfortable though. I felt dirty. The way the hot water is poured from a canister. I felt like the shoes that they make you wear kinda stunk (maybe that was my own feet, but still, I would've preferred to keep my shoes on anyways lol). And I tried not too look at the dust on the fireplace because I could clearly see it. There's some kind of hipster smell in that space. I like the Chinese inspiration and can appreciate others that find the appeal in it. Service was clunky and not calming, in my eyes. Also it was expensive!! For tea!!! This place was different, and I enjoyed the traditional teahouse experience. There are no outside shoes allowed inside of the teahouse, and there are slippers provided for you to use. I thought this was such a unique touch. I enjoyed the tea blend that I got, but I forgot the name of it! The ambiance is absolutely lovely. When we arrived we were the only people there which I preferred, I could see this place getting busy during certain times. The areas are a bit on the smaller size so if there were a lot of people it would make it a challenge to get around but on this visit, we didn't have that concern. The tea selection is great. We tried a few together. It was different from other tea houses we visited because they give you everything for your tea and you pour and drink at your leisure. I was so happy to finally come to Enthea after finding them years ago at Tea Fest. It was a small bag of their Tulsi tea that's now run out that brought me back here (HIGHLY recommend). We sat down to share a pot of peach oolong & just enjoy the relaxing space. Really cool things to look at & a purposeful collection of tea, pots & cups, trays, etc from all over. The tea is great, and so was the person working who was really friendly and helpful..told us a lot of cool facts about teas. My husband's never been exposed to tea so he's not really a "tea guy" and this was his first time trying. He loved it! He really enjoyed having a few cups of tea with Griswold the friendly stuffed cat. We will be back very soon to enjoy more teas, small bites, and their great events they put together. I made sure to stock up on a couple teas so I can have my favorites at home too. read more

This is a tea house in an old house in the tradition of the teahouse in the Chinese Garden. There is no milk tea with tapioca balls. There are two rooms on the main floor and a very quiet upstairs room. On entering, there is a shelf for your street shoes. To the right is the front parlor, and behind that is the tea counter where you can study the options. It is a business in an old house, shoes off, so set your expectations, and enter the experience. After deciding, have a seat upstairs or down and they will bring your pot of tea. They have some unique and beautiful tea strainers made locally from imported bodhi leaves. I have always wondered at the veins of leaves, and here, the Tao chapter 11 on voids as useful, describes it. A pot can easily serve two and with multiple steepings you will not perish of thirst. The furniture is Chinese and American antiques. The shop is filled with teaware, much of it hand crafted, and for sale. They do have a few minor food snacks. There is a large selection of small batch teas that the owner collects traveling to farms in Asia. Hey - I want that travel job! He has been doing that for several years under the Rabbit's Moon Tea Arts name. To provide a space for talks and music without alcohol, the basement becomes the SpeakTeasy Underground some weekend nights. Those have their own Facebook schedule. You can buy ounces of tea for home from one of Portland's mostly thoughtfully curated selections of teas. This is an ideal sexy date spot with your yoga love or a meetup with non-allopathic health care practitioner friends. It's beautiful and organic! read more

Coming here doesn't just mean that you will be served with hand picked, old growth tea leaves from China, but also many of the highest quality teas you can get -probably in the whole US - but definitely on the west coast, only available here because Steve still travels to China personally to collect these tea leaves from local farmers who he built friendly connection with. These local farmers and small family owned businesses are still following the traditional and clean way to make tea leaves ready to be poured into our cups. It feels like a real treat to come here. The moment I walked in, I was uncomfortable. First of all everyone is invited to come in, shuck their shoes and use slippers that are provided for the public. Ewww! I was not about to put some used slippers on my feet that I don't who has worn them or what kind of diseases strangers have planted in such slippers. Secondly, the place was cramped, so we either had a choice of squatting down and trying to sit at something that is only about two feet high. I thought that setting was worse than an airplane seat, so we went to the next room. We sat at the end of the table near the window because the person in charge didn't want the bathroom blocked. That setting was also claustrophobic. I am NOT a tea expert, but it appears one needs to have some kind of degree in tea appreciation. Call me ignorant, but I just didn't understand it. We were served a $20 pot of tea with three dollars added. We weren't allowed to sweeten it (ohhhhh nooooo) because we were told it just wasn't done. It needed sweetening because it was bitter and unpleasant. Therefore, I sat there looking at a thermos with a spout that was crusted with some kind of guck. In other words, it hadn't been cleaned for a long time. It made me wonder what the health department would think. Finally, ugh, finally the service was horrible in a way that made one feel the customer was not really good enough to grace the establishment. The person in charge admonished someone for ringing the bell too long. She brought out an order that we told her we didn't want. Her attitude was hard to define, but I would place it on the spectrum of snobby and haughty. read more

I've been to all the tea houses in the greater Portland area as I love tea. I really enjoyed the ambience of this tea house and the quality of the tea was excellent, but I found it very overpriced compared to other tea houses: $15 for a tiny pot of tea for two. We didn't know in advance that if we only ordered one pot, then we would be charged $3 more for the second cup (I presume we also got a bit more tea leaves in our tiny pot, but I do not actually know). They did give us plenty of water to refill the pot, but of course the leaves degrade after a few steeps. I don't plan to return as there are several others in town that have the same quality of tea at a better price in a pleasant environment. read more
