I like to drink decaf chai and it can be difficult to find. I stopped in here to see if they had any. I was promptly greeted and the sales associate was so friendly. I asked her about what I was looking for and she immediately brought me to it (they had two to choose from). She explained the differences to me then left me to decide and explore. I appreciated that she was so helpful but also not pushy or hovering after she answered my question. I explored the rest of the store and even grabbed another tea to try. The store has a lot of teas and spices in various sizes. It was well organized and stocked. They all had various tea and spice related items. When I checked out she told me that if I bring the container back they will refill with any tea and take $3 off the purchase which I thought was great! The shop is so cute with teas and spices lining the walls. I appreciate being able to smell the teas to get a feel of what I'm buying. I have to say a lot of their blends smelled really good but I ended up going with their peach blossom herbal tea. I was able to buy a go cup of the brewed tea and some of the tea leaves. The sales associate was so helpful letting us know which teas are similar. She was bright and friendly and offered to help me create a new mix when I mentioned looking for a dupe of a discontinued brand. I definitely recommend if you're a tea lover. read more

I had 6 days in Portland visiting and caring for my daughter after her surgery in Salem. And because she was intubated, she experienced throat discomfort. I could've gone to the supermarket to get boxed ginger tea bags- but I decided coming here would be the perfect opportunity to get fresh tea leaves. As you gently walk around this shop, you'll hear the softest jazz. The owner, Jazz (yes) has an angelic voice and at that moment, I just wanted to hear her talk tea to me. She located a ginger+turmeric loose leaf tea combo I can brew for my kid then gave me some ingredient and brewing suggestions. Already, I love Tea & Spice E. But I also love that there are size options- because not every store I've been to in the past would let me buy small amounts. Since my daughter didn't have a cold or anything, I just bought a small bag (which really isn't that small) to brew. I also bought a few things to bring home with me. The more I poked around and noticed the labels on teas+spices, the more fascinated I was by "Hibiscus Sugar" or Vietnamese Cinnamon- both with I purchased- not to mention the Black Tea Chocolate. My only regret was not purchasing a bigger Black Tea Chocolate for me (I think she ships?). But the ginger+turmeric loose leaf I bought for my kid, has worked wonders. read more

This is such an incredible shop, I could have spent hours in here! They have everything you could want in the kitchen: fresh spices and unique spice blends, teas and tea blends (both traditional and modern, unique blends I have found nowhere else), incredible sugars (rose, cardamon, butterscotch...), fine salts, gift packages with ingredients and colorful recipe cards with photos, and beautiful, giftable kitchenware. Such a fun and pleasant surprise visiting this store and completely by happenstance. We just so happened to be staying in a nearby hotel, walking around, and found ourselves here at the spice and tea shop. You could get lost in here for hours smelling all the sweet and savory spices and teas. I highly recommend ordering some hot tea while you peruse, really enhances the experience. Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable and are willing to create unique batches for you whatever your tastebuds may be craving. The Spice & Tea Exchange shop was nearby the hotel we were staying at in Portland. Being the big tea drinker that I am I knew I had to stop by before leaving Portland. The shop is small but they offer an abundant of different spices as well as teas. I was focused on getting some teas and checked out the various offerings they had. They had almost every flavor imaginable in black tea, green tea, white tea, oolong tea, herbal tea, pu-erh tea and matcha tea! My favorite purchase was the Gone Bananas! I also bought peach and creme brûlée. It was the Gone Bananas however that I really liked. It has the perfect hint of banana and is so delicious. It's definitely my cup of tea for busy days when I feel like I'm going bananas haha. read more

The owner (?) was nice. The music was good. The window display is fun. But I felt most things were overpriced, and we left without buying anything. A nice find in Portland as we were walking around the city. They have large "smell jars" there so you can check everything out before purchasing the little bags, so there's no guess work. The salesman working there was very friendly and helpful. He even had some recipe ideas which I tried when I got home and they worked great. I bought Tangerine and Strawberry. Those are so fun! I picked up a bag of Bamboo Green Rice, which I cannot wait to try in a meal at home. Based upon the reviews indicating best customer service I drove to Portland with my son to purchase tea. The sales associate greeted every customer besides my son and myself. She asked the other customers if she can provide assistance, she was super friendly and helpful to the other customers. However, my son and I we were never greeted, nor asked if we needed assistance. After the other customers left tea shop, the sales associate went and sat behind a back counter, never said a word to me or asking if I needed assistance. As I completed selecting my tea, i had to ask the associate where do I paid for my tea and she pointed to front counter. The sales associate never said thank you, she just checked out up and that was the end of that conversation. I pray that her customer service was not a representation of how Portland treats minorities.. I was disappointed that I even continued to purchase the tea. However, I pray my pleasant demeanor positions her to be reflective. read more

I bought two green tea blends and one white tea blend, all smelled and looked great.. then I bought a guacamole blend that smelled awesome too, it had traditional spice smells mixed with something else unique, so I have to try it also. This is a lovely little shop tucked away in the middle of Broadway. It's all dark woods and glass jars and the smell of spices. I came here strictly for tea, and purchased several blends. I do wish there were more caffeine-free teas that were not floral or fruity. I came away with some chamomile citrus, ginger twist and coconut oolong teas, and would love to come back to check out the spice selection. read more

Then I found something very unusual - coconut powder (good for baking or curries I am sure!) Lastly, I picked up some Mountain Jasmine tea. The tea selection was rather small, but the spices were abundant. This is a nice store located in the city center of Portland. Parking is a nightmare, but when driving around the block a few times you may find one. They have a good selection of tea and spices - be prepared it won't be cheap. Very supportive staff! We were looking for a special sugar type and luckily they had it in their portfolio! I love tea what can I say and I'm not talking about the mass produced stuff you can buy in the grocery store. I happened to find The Spice & Tea exchange by walking by the store. While they do offer spices and salts as others have mentioned, I really wasn't in the market for that. The loose leaf teas section is in the back of the store and they offer some interesting mixes including some seasonal mixes. They did have a chocolate candy cane and a eggnog. One of the nice things is that they have glass jars with the teas so that you could smell the tea. If your like me, you could probably spend too much time deciding what to buy and then too much money buying all of the different varieties. Luckily they sell the teas in 1 oz bags so you can save some money if you purchase 3 and you can try multiple kinds without breaking the bank. I am looking forward to enjoying my Marrakesh Mint and especially the coconut oolong tea which smells heavenly. read more
