Spice & Tea Exchange (with other items in between) has a simple name and the verdict is just as straightforward- but with a lot of pizzazz. I had 6 days in Portland visiting and caring for my daughter after her surgery in Salem. And because she was intubated, she experienced throat discomfort. I could've gone to the supermarket to get boxed ginger tea bags- but I decided coming here would be the perfect opportunity to get fresh tea leaves. As you gently walk around this shop, you'll hear the softest jazz. The owner, Jazz (yes) has an angelic voice and at that moment, I just wanted to hear her talk tea to me. She located a ginger+turmeric loose leaf tea combo I can brew for my kid then gave me some ingredient and brewing suggestions. Already, I love Tea & Spice E. But I also love that there are size options- because not every store I've been to in the past would let me buy small amounts. Since my daughter didn't have a cold or anything, I just bought a small bag (which really isn't that small) to brew. I also bought a few things to bring home with me. The more I poked around and noticed the labels on teas+spices, the more fascinated I was by "Hibiscus Sugar" or Vietnamese Cinnamon- both with I purchased- not to mention the Black Tea Chocolate. My only regret was not purchasing a bigger Black Tea Chocolate for me (I think she ships?). But the ginger+turmeric loose leaf I bought for my kid, has worked wonders.

Freshly ground and made spices. Smells amazing and a fun little experience.

Be careful. When you go in.... It's a trap. Haha. You start smelling everything and you get stuck. It's an amazing store. We spent about an hour in there and ended up spending a good $100+ each lol. Plus the staff are so helpful and friendly. Got a tip of mixing two of the teas together and -- ummmmm yaaaasss!!!! Thank you My sister and I were on a natural high after our visit there. We will definitely be returning next visit to Portland. A few weeks after update: The teas are amazing! I have a different flavor every morning. Beware, some have sugar which I didn't catch so my husband can't have those. But I can... hehehe ;)~ My husband used one of the spices on short ribs and they were amazing!

Amazing service with great advices. Large variety of teas (herbal and non), sugars, peppers and spices. A pleasure to shop in this lovely store!

Lots of tea options you'd have a hard time finding elsewhere. A little pricier, but you can order a tea of pretty much anything in the store to see if you'd really like it. They've got some interesting spice and sugar blends as well.

Cute little store to check out for different types of tea and spices! I couldn't help myself smelling very type of tea and explores the different flavors. They have some very special types, such as bourbon and chocolate cake, and the seasonal flavors such as tropical fruits. The staff was extremely warm and helpful as well. They can make the tea if you want to try it out.

    Black, green and oolong teas!!!

This place had a great selection, and surprisingly lots of things other than spices and teas, like ceramic mugs, candles, and other gift ideas. You can open the jars and smell everything. The owner (?) was nice. The music was good. The window display is fun. But I felt most things were overpriced, and we left without buying anything. If you have money to burn, or are looking for a fun gift, you'll find something great here. Also I couldn't help wondering what happens to the tea in the jars everyone's stuck their nose in.

Cherry cordials, pear cordials, apple cordials in chocolates. Caramel chocolates, chocolate caramels. Thing is it's hard for not to love the store because it has three of my favorite things: 1. chocolate: shelves and shelves of unique artisan chocolates made with skill and care from all over the world. 2. And salt -- am a VERY big fan of picking up local salts whenever one is traveling -- including actual blocks and blocks of Himalayan salt stacked. Not imitation but the real stuff. They even have fresh popcorn for you to taste the truffle salt with. 3. Lastly they have fresh cut flowers. It's like a florist and you can create your own bouquets. Beautiful specimens with structure and freshness. I have to say they also have bottles and bottles of bitters -- crafted bitters. King Floyd chief among them. The staff person was super helpful. She was kind and educational about many things.

The woman behind the counter was quite friendly. There was even popcorn to try with truffle salt on it. While there was nothing here that I ended up buying, it's a neat place to look around, especially if you're in the market for a salt lamp or some unique bitters as I think they had at least 50 if not a hundred different kinds.
