We have cats and they do not fly and neither does the cat serving drinks at this little slice of Portlandia. I should have known when I asked if they had a "cold brew" and the guy said they "could make that work". Cold brew is not a concept that you "make work" my man. Instead of a delicious cold brew coffee I was served a very weak tasting and very water iced coffee. You and some of the assembled regulars insisted your drink was just about the same as cold brew. Well like, cat, "take a moment" and process the difference: Cold brew is a popular coffee beverage requiring a long "cold" brewing process to extract all the coffee goodness. It's so dense in flavour that when ice and the slightest introduction of heavy cream is added it tastes like an espresso with a little crème but, you know, cold. Cold brew is a brew of intense coffee that takes a day or two to make rather than the morning drip coffee you poured over ice and with a Cheshire smile served me as a substitute. Not cold brew, kitty, iced coffee! What's crazy is when I brought it back to explain that you served me an iced coffee and that you did not "make it work" in any way you kind of engaged in gaslighting me into thinking I was at fault because you took my order for a cold brew and was served a very flavorless iced coffee. You don't actually have cold brew coffee at the Flying Cat Coffee. Just say that when people order it. Or if you put it on the menu then there is a whole section at Safeway ( yeah, I know what you are thinking cat, who goes to Safeway) with like twenty versions of cold brew and even a Stumptown concentrate cold brew in a glass bottle (again, I know, Safeway?). So in conclusion, be honest and just say you don't serve cold brew, you can't possibly make an iced drip coffee "work" as cold brew no matter how enchanted (or is it enchanting) that little cute black cat sculpture in the corner might be. read more

Cute little cafe we visited while visiting Portland! It was dainty, cute aesthetic for pictures of the cafe & good food! We got the purr-ito & bagel and it was good and kept us full until dinner! You also can walk around on division street and visit other shops or walk a short distance to Hawthorne Blvd where all the other great shops and places to eat are at! It's like stepping into a storybook. in the whole street it stands out in the best way. The building is quaint and quirky, with fun outdoor seating, comfortable indoor seating, and the cat themed decor is hours of enjoyment (fun side quest, check the drawer of the little table near the couch). The cardamon maple latte is absolutely stellar. I can't stop dreaming about it each time I walk away, and can't wait to come back again. I really love all their vegan/dairy free options too. This coffeeshop felt very Portland-like, aka a bit weird. The pumpkin spice latte had very real spices but needed a little more sweetness and coffee taste for me. There were lots of cool and seasonal drinks on the menu! Lots of cat decor, a couple of sofas, and a few outdoor spots to sit at. I had the soyrizo, potatoes, eggs, and green chile wrapped in a griddle toasted wheat tortilla. Very filling and tasty. First impression of the interior was that the decor is rather quirky, but I was actually quite impressed at how many flying cats I spotted in the shop while waiting for my drink. No inside seating available due to the COVID-19 pandemic. DRINKS: + Suphalak smoothie (cold brew coffee, banana, cinnamon, almond butter, peanut butter, chia seeds): all of the combos on the smoothie menu sounded pretty interesting, and I had a hard time choosing. I ended up picking this one for the coffee. First impression was that it was certainly interesting - I wasn't quite sure I liked it; but after a few more sips, it grew on me. Strong coffee flavor. Not overly sweet which I appreciated. And it felt healthy while also indulgent. + Iced matcha latte: this was creamy and had a strong matcha flavor. Perfect for a hot summer afternoon. Such a cute coffee shop! They have board games and comfortable seating in a small space. I was there for about 45 minutes, about half a dozen people came and went. The food is vegan, mainly wraps and sandwiches. It was decent, nothing to note. The coffee on the other hands, was amazing, I got a delicious vanilla latte! read more

This place is so cute! There's lots of cat themed vintage items and lots of really fun and comfy furniture to sit in. It's a pretty good place to study too - the music is ambient enough to tune out and lots of other folks are working/studying. There are lots of food items you can get and lots of flavored coffee. Super cute and quirky coffee shop with AMAZING food and coffee! All of the cat decorations were adorable. The sofas & pillows added a cozy feel and soothing classical music was playing. The back of the cafe has tons of board games like scrabble, catan, twister, etc! There was just one guy here this morning making everything from scratch and he was killing it. I came specifically for the pumpkin spice latte and my craving was satisfied. I could really taste the real pumpkin and I liked that it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet like some are (Starbucks). The food menu looked so good that I also got the ocelot purr-ito with egg and no cheese. It was MASSIVE and packed full of delicious ingredients! The soyrizo was so tender and flavorful, the hash browns melted in my mouth, everything was cooked to perfection and the avocado was a perfect addition. If you have to wake up at 4 A.M. for any reason, you're most likely in some trouble. You probably have to get to work, a class, a workout, or just something else generally important and stressful. In my case, my 4 A.M. story was a flight to Portland. You know how it is. You plan to sleep at something like 9 P.M. the night before because you'll get a somewhat normal 7 hours, but then you royally mess up by packing last second or watching dog videos or something and then don't hit the hay until midnight. By the time you're setting the alarm in your phone, a notification pops up saying, "Your alarm is set for 3 hours and 52 minutes from now." You cry inside, because that is nowhere near the healthy amount that you read scientists recommend for your age group. Actually, it isn't anywhere near the recommended amount for any age group. In comes coffee, and for me, enter Flying Cat Coffee. Dragging my feet into this quaint shop with plentiful seating (at tables and sofas), the flying cats around the shop seemed pretty normal to me because I was sure I was in a really weird dream in a really weird and cloudy city. In my daze, I decided to order a regular $2.50 cup of joe along with a day-old $1 apple pastry I grabbed off the counter. The prices are cheap in my slumber, I thought. I served my own coffee and threw in some cream and sugar. Suddenly, the light turned on. Everything around me started to sing out in harmony. The cats rushed past me and disappeared into the distance. I woke up, and I looked down. In my hands were the coffee and pastry from my dream, somehow having made it to reality. I took a bite. So soft on the inside and perfectly crunchy on the outside. sip. So hot and deep and flavorful. My nightmare of a 4 A.M. wakeup had turned into a beautiful dream come true. read more

Seriously - BEST LOGO EVER! I saw this coffee shop right after they closed for the evening and had to go back. The logo perfectly captures my cat Dobson -- and I was delighted to see all the mugs, tshirts, entry rug, even a papier mache version of the flying black cat with a red fluttering cape and coffee cup in his outstretched paw! The coffee was delicious, the ambiance casual and friendly. A cute gal sitting on a nearby sofa joined in the conversation that my mom & I were having with the guy who worked there and we all shared cute cat photos. Flying Cat Coffee is a really cute local coffee shop. The staff is really friendly and the breakfast sandwiches are great. The last time I visited, I had the egg, cheese and veggie sausage on a English muffin and it was excellent. I also like their soy lattes. Yum! One thing that I thought was really cute about this place is that they seem to like "The Oatmeal," an internet cartoonist. They had the book "How to Tell if Your Cat is Plotting to Kill You" available for people to read and also the poster on one of their walls. Very funny stuff. Another thing that I like about this place is that the owner knew some of the people who came in by name. BEST MATCHA EVERRRR!!! Stopped in spontaneously and I'm sure glad I did! Gotta say that the matcha was easily one of the best I've ever had. It was well balanced and even got a nice refill while sitting on one of the many couches available in the shop. Super cute little coffee shop. Very nice ambiance. One of my most favorite coffee shops in Portland! I love their cat themed cafe which probably attracts a lot of cat lovers like myself to it. The ambiance of the whole place is pretty spacious, cozy, there are couches and plenty of seats. The servers, and I think Jan ( the owner), there were two ladies who were so nice and made us feel welcomed. Their menu is pretty wide and affordable. Largest cup of coffee is around 3-4$ as well as the food items which are fairly cheap and delicious. They have a mini selection of pastries, merchandise, etc. Day old muffins are sold only for a dollar and they still taste pretty great. I think if you get coffee for in-store they give you a ceramic mug and you can pour in the coffee yourself.(can't keep the mug of course) And if you get to-go they give it to you in a regular disposable coffee cup. (correct me if I'm wrong) For food, I got the chorizo breakfast sammie which was so good which is 4$ and quite filling for some reason. They have giant breakfast burritos filled with lots of hashbrowns, egg, and what ever you decide to put in it like chorizo, sausage, etc. Sadly, I don't live in Portland but if I do, this place would become a second home to me. I don't think I've ever actually returned food or asked for it to be remade but the meowcaroni was bland and disappointing. It all kind of tasted like soggy mush with steamed cauliflower on the side that had no seasoning. My friend wasn't able to eat it and neither was I. We informed the person working And they said they liked it and seemed shocked and just stood in silence until my friend awkwardly had to let them know they wouldn't be able to eat it and asked if they could get a drink instead.
