Best macaroons i've ever had in my life and I tried a good handful. Not too sweet. Filling is way more creamy than sweet (which I love because most macarons are too sweet). Tea was refreshing. In fact, after I did light shopping, I came back and got seconds because I didn't save any for my son or husband. Only deterrent: no parking lot, all street parking. Portal Tea was an amazing little find during our most recent vacation to Portland. It's in an old house up the stairs and it was very, very quaint and peaceful. They have tons of tea to choose from that you can get iced or hot or with Boba. The menu is pretty extensive I like herbal teas and they had a really great hibiscus one. They had a few pastries and some macaron as well. The hot chocolate spiced macaron was super good. I loved it a lot and I got a second one. Everybody was nice there and it was just a really chill spot to have a warm cup of tea on a snowy day. Next time I'm in Portland I will definitely be going to portal tea! read more

Trendy Hangout, But the Tea Falls Flat Stopped by this tea shop recently--definitely a trendy spot with a cool, modern vibe. It's a great place to hang out with friends or even get some work done. The atmosphere is inviting, and it seems like the kind of place you'd want to spend some time in. Unfortunately, the tea itself was a letdown. It was so watered down I could barely taste any actual tea. It honestly tasted like it had been brewed in bulk earlier, refrigerated, and then quickly mixed with sweetener to serve. Not exactly the kind of care or quality you expect from a place that's supposed to specialize in tea. I didn't try the boba myself, but watching others chew on it was enough--it looked and sounded far from fresh. Overall, this spot might serve the aesthetic, but if you're looking for top-tier tea, this isn't it. If you really want to experience what quality tea should taste like, check out Formosa in the 626 area. That's the real deal. read more

This is definitely not the same as a Taiwanese boba shop. Its more equivalent to a David's Tea or Teavana (rip). They have a bunch of tea and milk tea "flavors" and different flavored boba including tapioca. Unfortunately they ran out of tapioca pearls when I visited. I accidentally got the green milk tea (thought it was the same as jasmine tea) and a black milk tea. Both tasted very artificial to me. Great Customer Service! We purchase loose leaf tea in 4 & 9 oz. quantities. Portal Tea's bulk loose leaf bags are nicely marked, durable, resealable and reusable. Thanks to Laura we were able to reuse these bags and reduce our plastic consumption. We ordered online to get our points in their loyalty program. Since we live locally, Laura arranged for us to pick up our tea at one of their cafes and their "baristas" cheerfully put our new order into our old bags. This was definitely was more hassle for their company, but Laura did not hesitate to help us out. We recommend their quality teas and their cafes for their friendly ambience. THANK YOU! read more

I was very pleasantly surprised on how cute and big this place was! We went on a Thursday night so it was not that busy and we had the back room all to ourselves. They sell tea in either 20 oz or 32 oz pot. We got the barista's recommendation of strawberry tea with some kind of mint and it was quite enjoyable. I definitely will be returning! read more

Some seats are cozy but others felt as comfy as barely-stitched-together mass-produced brands. but the vibe is so chill and one of the last few places where you can get cozy and study for a while, if you're able-bodied enough to get up the stairs. my wish for xmas 2025 (besides global healing & peace ofc)? for this cute tea shop to either build-in accessibility for all bodies, or find another building with accessible features already installed. read more

This little tea shop has been here for like, forever. Back when I was a student in the early 2000's, I used to come here often with friends as it was one of a few tea/coffee shops around back then. Fast forward to 2023, here I am checking it out again for the first time in a long time. Initially, I was going to order the hojicha tea, but they were sold out. So I opted for a jasmine bubble tea with tapioca balls (half ice and half sugar) instead, plus a cheese bagel because the staff recommended it. The bubble tea was decent, it didn't taste too sugary nor filled with ice, just as I ordered. The bagel took a long time to come, but when it arrived I enjoyed it very much. Nowadays there are so many bubble tea and coffee places, it's hard to choose a favorite. This shop on 23rd in North-West Portland is filled with memories, so it'll always have a special place in my heart. However, the prices are a bit too high and the service is a bit too slow. Also they no longer take cash, which was a surprise. If you are near 23rd and are looking for an intimate place to enjoy a moment of peace and quiet, this place is for you! read more

Each cup was made with care and the counter people took care to explain the different choices to every customer. The space was crowded on a rainy afternoon but we found a comfortable place to wait for our cups. My friends and I got a chai, a traditional green and a flavored herbal tea. They were all lovely. I want to start by saying the tea was fantastic as a tea lover. The old train car is a fun touch and it has a cozy warm atmosphere where you can really hang out and relax with your friends. They way you can smell the teas and look at the leaves was another fun and interesting touch and really enhanced the tea experience. Why I gave it only 4 stars is because my friend was asking a ton of questions to me and the barista because my friend had never really sat down and enjoyed a tea. The barista kept swaying away from my recommendations and talked to me as if I was dumb. Just overall very condescending and she even admitted she knew nothing about tea until she started working there. Kept pushing teas we weren't interested in. This is a perfect cozy, small, quaint tea shop with cute little couches, tables for working, and a nice outdoor balcony for chilling outside. In my mind, you can't go wrong with a huge selection of different types of chai tea - my personal favorite. If you're used to tainting your tea with espresso, don't come here, they don't have an espresso machine. But, they do have various types of chai with different levels of caffeine. You can also grab some pastries and other types of teas. I can't wait to be back in town to try more and get some quiet work done in their cozy space. read more

We had to walk up the stairs to get to the place and once you walk in, it feels like a totally different area. My wife got her Thai Tea and my friend got his milk tea with lychee. TL:DR - Great place to study, work, or just read. They have plenty of outlets, tables, and couches/loungers for more casual reading. Extensive tea selection and you can get a pot of tea. My only gripe was that the tea pot didn't include leaves in it, and the tea itself was a bit weak with no way to make it a little more potent. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Built inside what feels like an old mansion or very large old home, Tea Chai Te takes up most of the buildings 2nd floor. Not sure if there's a handicap accessible way of getting up. But besides this, this place is a perfect place to study with tons of outlets and great little nooks and rooms to stowaway to study and work. There are tables if you like tables and couches if you want something a little more relaxed. Loose leaf tea selection is great and expansive, which is great cause I hate coffee, so this is a great place to study for me. I like that you can get a pot of tea as well. If you do get a pot though, make sure you ask for a warmer if they don't give you one. They work great. But as for as the actual tea goes, my pot of tea didn't seem to come with loose tea in it, which makes me think they may brew it in the back and then put the liquid into the pot for you. This is fine but the tea was a bit weak, which makes me think they either didn't brew it long enough or they didn't add more leaves to account for the size of the pot, or they resteep tea leaves? Either way slightly disappointed. Outside of that, the staff was pretty friendly and the other patrons weren't super loud. All in all, I do really love this place as a study spot or a place to get some reading done. I do wish the tea was a bit better. read more

I love this location! I always get the same thing, turmeric chai with oat milk. They have a nice little outdoor balcony to sit on when the weather is appropriate. Such a cute, unique spot of NW 23rd. It was perfect to grab a nice tea in the PDX rain. I must admit that I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to tea so this was a completely unique and new experience for me. The inside decor is amazing!! Outfitted with plants, couches, nice lighting, it is an incredibly inviting spot that is hard to leave. There are options to sit outside and inside. The menu gives you plenty to choose from.
