I was having problems with my voice for the last 3 months and I felt uncomfortable swallowing at times. I scheduled an appointment for 9/23. 2 days later a person on her office staff called me and told me she would do a Telemedicine call only and if she saw fit, She would have me come in. GREAT! Docs are now charging patients their full copay, mine is $30 for a telephone consult an then charge another $30 to come into the office to be checked. $60.....come on! So, I call my other ENT in Phoenix. They told me by all means, come in, we even have an opening tomorrow. So I went in and had a full exam. He even scoped my throat by putting a endoscope in my nose and down my throat and had me make certain sounds. The Dr. found some problems that I will not go into her but he told me to discontinue an inhaler that I was using that was prescribed by another Dr. He also said some of my problem may be due to acid reflux and I may have to change from OTC meds to something more suited for my condition. So tell me, how could that diagnosis been made via the phone? It wold have cost me $60 instead of $30. This Telemdicine this is a racket, a licence for doctors to increase their bottom line.They can charge you your deductible and code whatever they want to the insurance company. I have already dismissed 3 of my long term docs for bad practices like this. I dismissed my PCP last November after 15 years. I was in a car accident and went to the hospital emergency. The Hospital told me to see my PCP and follow up in 3 weeks with my PCP. My normal copay is $20 to my PCP and he wanted $150, what a rip for a follow up. I told them I am a patient for 15 years, they told me that they asked the Dr. and he said that is the rate.I tried to get the Dr. to change it but no go, so I quit his practice also. I met with Sean Kane, ANP of the Arizona Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic on Thunderbird in Sun City, last year and he was exccedingly gracious in his understanding and appreciative of the experience of having two to four canker sores at one time. He was quick to offer a solution that diminished the pain considerably and sped up the heeling within days as opposed to 3-4 weeks as had been my experience. She stepped out for 5 minutes and returned to inform me "the doctor" insisted I need an MRI. I've been dealing with severe hearing loss for 15 years and don't present symptoms which warrant an MRI. Particularly from a doctor who never even spoke to me. It felt like a checklist visit and they refused to take any action unless I had an MRI. It's sad we must advocate so aggressively for quality care.

Was advised that failure to get hearing aids can cause the nerve connected to the brain to weaken, leaving hearing loss that can't be fixed, which also leads to demensia.
