I sampled a couple of their flavors to decide which flavor(s) I wanted to purchase. I selected the Ricotta Lemon Zest gelato. I had the options to have it in a cup or cone. I decided a cup because I full from the pizza. The cones are house made and smelled good! I selected the perfect flavor! The lemon zest was vibrant and refreshing. It had a good balance of tartness without being sour. The ricotta added a nice creaminess. It wasn't heavy. The citrus kept the cream light. The staff was friendly. There wasn't much interaction other than asking for samples, placing my order, and then paying. However, it was all pleasant. It is a small ice cream shop. There are two wooden benches against the wall to sit and eat your ice cream if you choose to do so. I would recommend trying this ice cream parlor and I would return again!

After finishing dinner, we walked just a few steps onto the sidewalk when we noticed a line forming outside a business. We craned our necks to see what had drawn everyone's attention. It was Lush Gelato. It would have been foolish to simply keep walking, so naturally, we joined the line. Thankfully, it moved rather quickly, and before we knew it, we were standing at the counter trying to decide which flavors to choose. I'm of the opinion that when it comes to gelato, I choose whatever sounds good to me in the moment and typically don't ask for samples, as it slows the line down substantially. It's a little gamble, but it's hardly the end of the world if the flavor doesn't suit your palate. There's always another day and another flavor to try. I chose the Brown Butter & Chocolate Honeycomb. The gentleman helping me must have been operating on "auto" mode because he handed me a sample, apparently thinking I had asked for one. I tasted it, even though I already knew I wanted that flavor. Good choice, I thought to myself. It was absolutely delicious. The quality really shines through, and I especially appreciate how Lush creates its artisanal gelato using many ingredients sourced from local businesses. There's a wonderful sense of craftsmanship in every bite. One might wonder how Argentine owner Federico Murtagh manages to create gelato with such an exceptionally smooth, luscious texture and depth of flavor. Perhaps one need only look to Argentina for the answer. Buenos Aires has a strong Italian influence, and gelato has long been a beloved staple of the city's food culture. Murtagh has brought that Argentine-style gelato tradition to us, right here in beautiful Northern California. We'll definitely be returning to explore more of the flavors, especially the seasonal offerings. My only wish? That Lush stayed open into the wee hours of the night, just as gelato shops do in Argentina. Because really, is there ever a bad time for gelato?
