Got icecream after ramen. Decided on strawberry pretzel salad and coffee &love nuts flavor in a single split scoop. The workers were nice in letting people sample. The strawberry pretzel salad did have good strawberry flavor and crunch from the pretzels but it was melting fast for some reason. The coffee&love nuts ice cream had a creamy coffee flavor and the nuts gave the icecream texture.
Salt & Straw always plays with unconventional flavor combinations. While I think some can be hit-or-miss, I really appreciate their adventurous approach to exploring uncharted flavors. I dropped by recently because they released a chef's choice series with two Asian-inspired flavors that really intrigued me: the Hong Kong Milk Tea and the Yuzu Cheesecake. Both were incredibly rich and decadent! Aside from their seasonal rotations, my absolute go-to classics here are the Arbequina Olive Oil and the Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper. If you love a unique savory-sweet balance, those are must-tries.
I know Salt & Straw is known for having some interesting and unconventional flavors, so I tried a lot of the flavors before settling; they rotate seasonally. Mom's mango pie: It mostly tastes like the pie part Parker House rolls with salted buttercream: It does taste kind of like cinnamon rolls, or something rich like biscuits Pumpkin pie tiramisu: The flavor mostly felt coffee-forward to me. Arbequina olive oil: It was pretty good, I liked how savory it is. Cinnamon snickerdoodle: Tastes like the cookie Salted, malted chocolate chip cookie dough: It is indeed salty and reminded me of a chocolate malt ball Jack o lantern pumpkin bread: Definitely quite pumpkin-y Turkey stuffing and cranberry: It might've actually have turkey in it I ultimately went for a single of parker house rolls and olive oil in a cup. Price was moderate compared to most ice cream I've seen nowadays.
Every time I pass by this corner, I could smell the ice cream. This time, my daughter went in and grabbed a chocolate gooey brownie scoop in a cup. No line upon arrival with quick service. Few high tops to sit by the window or sit on a bench outside.
Great ice cream, literally incredible flavors both classic and monthly rotation. Walked in on a Sunday night and line was long but not crazy, service was fine. I had the seasonal chocolate zucchini bread and I was thrilled, it was so dang good and I got some veggies snuck into my diet. I got a single on a waffle cone and it was $10 with tax and tip. The single scoop felt a little small for that price in my opinion, no real space to sit inside or outside so we joined the crowd awkwardly on the side walk blocking traffic to eat our food. Space around the shop was pretty dirty but I guess that's SF for you
If you're anywhere near Fillmore, run , don't walk to Salt & Straw - 2201 Fillmore St The salted malted chocolate chips, cookie dough, and hazelnut cream combo is absolutely unreal. The chocolate is rich and perfectly salted (that sweet-salty balance? chef's kiss), the cookie dough is soft and indulgent, and the hazelnut cream ties everything together with this smooth, nutty depth that makes every bite better than the last. It's creamy, decadent, and somehow still perfectly balanced , not overly sweet, just pure flavor. You can actually taste the quality in every spoonful. Hands down an excellent choice and an amazing taste experience. Definitely coming back for this one again
Everything on the street is so darling, and this small, but mighty location churns out lots of ice cream and happy customers. I finally (after multiple rounds of sold-out online pre-orders) had a chance to try the Taco Bell collab return of the Chocotaco, the Tacolate ($7.95). Delicious! Half the size of the original, with elevated ingredients and execution, this ice cream, novelty packs a nostalgic punch in an updated way. It comes with two Taco Bell sauce packets, berry and mango jalapeño, both fun but unnecessary. The limited edition aspect makes me miss the original ice cream truck version even more, but thanks for the throwback!
The Tacolate is back and here to stay!!! We had to come in the day it was finally rereleased, and enjoy this delicacy. The Tacolate is a collab with Taco Bell and Salt & Straw. While the taco is on the smaller size, it packs a punch! The ice cream is well flavored, cinnamon and ancho chili, covered in a crispy shell with puffed quinoa. The shell is super crunchy!! I also got to try out the two sauces, the mango jalapeño and wild berry. The mango one was my favorite, and had a little kick! Because we ordered early, it was quite literally a grab and go. The staff was very quick and helpful. We also enjoyed our tacos sitting in the shop, in front of the windows... do not recommend if you don't want onlookers to lust over your messy eating!
Let's break doen their new flavors: Wishing strawberry and pretzels (I ended up buying this just because I enjoyed their strawberry but I disliked their pretzels so I just picked them out) Banana bread and strawberry jam: meh flavor and we didn't taste the strawberry jam Huckleberry cornbread: weird mushy texture and couldn't taste the Huckleberry. They try really hard with their flavors, this month is a miss.

Between how justifiably beloved their ice cream is and the hype around them finally expanding into the Bay Area, it wasn't at all surprising that the lines to come here were so long. Yet, what is even more impressive is that after all of these years, they continue to draw a crowd! Although, with their consistently creative lineup of flavors that always taste so good, it also makes perfect sense! In pretty much every way, this Salt & Straw looks just like every other location I've been to (though, it's notably larger than the one I visited in Sacramento). However, more significantly, their offerings looked even more interesting than usual. For those that aren't familiar, the menu has two parts - a big portion that's devoted to their classic staples that they'll consistently have available and a featured set of limited edition flavors. Sometimes, they're related to the season (chocolatier flavors for Valentine's Day, holiday related, etc.), other times they're based on a certain theme (farmers market, pies, cereals, etc.). Plus, they always have multiple vegan options as well! -- FRECKLED MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP I don't usually go for vegan ice creams, but this one is definitely one of the best I've had, as it has a nice balance of mint and chocolate. I just wish there was also a non-vegan version available, as it'd be nice if this had a milky creaminess to it. -- CHOCOLATE CHIP ZUCCHINI BREAD Of all of the flavors in their Famers Market series, I was most excited to try this one and IT WAS FANTASTIC. The chunks of zucchini bread were fantastic and, with the chocolate chip ice cream, genuinely carried the flavor throughout the ice cream. -- COFFEE & LOVE NUTS Honestly, I must be an idiot for not trying this one before because it is SO GOOD! The taste of the coffee isn't overpowering, but it's strong enough and well balanced with the chunks of chocolate coated pecans, which were delicious! Beyond the ice cream, the other thing that I really like about this Salt & Straw is the location itself. Not only is the neighborhood really nice to walk around and/or mingle at while you're enjoying your cold treat, but parking is relatively easy to find after dinner (a little harder during the day). Given that, as well as how there aren't many similar alternatives in the area, this is a perfect spot for a something sweet to cap your night Can't wait to try the next monthly series, but I hope to see the Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread circle back again one day! FOUR AND A HALF STARS rounded up!
I normally go to the hayes valley location but it was randomly closed on a thursday evening so we came here instead - luckily it was only 10 minutes away! We were really surprised how empty it was as the hayes location is always so packed, so we were able to try samples and order immediately. We ordered a double scoop of the holiday flavors (pineapple upside down cake and almond brittle with salted ganache) in a cup. The almond brittle was great but the pineapple was a bit too tart for my preference and tasted kinda artificial, but my husband really liked it! There was unfortunately nowhere to sit inside as there's very limited seating which were all taken by other customers, but there was still enough standing room for us to finish our ice cream before heading back out in the rain!
I don't know how many reviews I've written about Salt & Straw, but I never run out of good things to say. June was probably my favorite monthly menu series ever - pies! I had to try a sample of the Gruyère and Tomato Custard Tart, and honestly it wasn't bad. The cheesy taste was way stronger than the tomato. It was hard to choose a flavor but I ended up getting a split-scoop of the Rhubarb Crumble with Toasted Anise and the Wildflower Honey and Lemon Chess Pie. Both were phenomenal! I loved the pieces of pie crust/crumble mixed in. My friend said the Wild-Foraged Berry Slab Pie was also amazing. Overall, Salt & Straw never misses for me! Will happily return for more.
Good ice cream, simple shop, it is more of a "buy and walk" kind of place, with very limited sitting. They have about 3~4 sits, that's it! So don't expect to be able to sit.
This heatwave is heating up and it's getting sunny in August. There are a few things you can enjoy to get some relief from the sun. On taco Tuesday more hot sauce isn't going to work to feel refresh. There is place where the tacos are frozen. This place also has many different flavors of ice cream such as pear& blue cheese and sea salt with caramel ribbons like some on my social feed. They also have pies like Wildflower Honey & Lemon Chess Pie and Cherry Coconut pie like some on my social media feed. It's a place for people who like it sweet and salty in SF. It's called Salt & Straw. On a Summer stroll on a sunny day in August I landed inside Salt & Straw in Pacific Heights on Fillmore street. I got the Tacolate a collaboration between Taco Bell and Salt & Straw. The ice cream taco was not too sweet and the sauces like the Wild Berry were tasty and the Mango Jalapeño was a bit savory. The waffle cone for the tortilla was crunchy. Overall it was refreshing and a place for the sweet and salty on a hot day in SF. When the sun is shinning and you need feel refreshed you can to a "shopping mall "or do a "pub crawl" and get something cold and "tall" or grab something sweet and salty like some in SF at "Salt & Straw" Get saucy with packets of "Taco Bell" sweet sauce and waffle taco "shell" and all the flavors tend to "gel" like ice cream with ribbons with sea salt with "caramel" read more

When unsure where to go for dessert, Salt & Straw is an excellent default. I've tried it in both NorCal and SoCal with a date or group of friends, and it's consistently a crowd pleaser. On my most recent visit to the Pac Heights location after dinner with some friends, I was delighted to see the seasonal coconut cherry pie w/almond crust vegan option. Real cherries and ice cream are a match made in heaven imo. I was quick to order a scoop of this flavor without even sampling it first, but I wasn't disappointed at all. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. It was slightly sweet, a lil tangy, and nicely textured. Would get again in a heartbeat! Only a couple of minor issues here are the staff members, who aren't super attentive, and the lack of a clearly structured queue. While the line moved pretty fast, it was not super obvious who was available to take our orders. I guess it's a free for all once inside but would appreciate a bit more initiative from the scoopers to signal availability. Still, the ice cream is so good, it's hardly a deterrent. read more

Such a classic, I'm so glad I live in walking distance to a Salt n Straw. From college memories to early adulthood, Salt n Straw has been a consistent staple. I love the samples, the staff's always friendly, and this location is centrally located right off the 22 and 1 bus stops. Inside is small so there's often a line (especially later at night and after dinner times) but it moves fast. There's a little bench on the outside of this one too if you need a little stretch break, and very close to Alta Plaza park if you want to munch on your ice cream with a view. I come way too often, but my favorite months are usually March (for the lucky charms flavor), summer July (berries flavors - I'm loving the strawberry pretzel salad and goat cheese habanero ones currently), and Thanksgiving in November. My all year favorites are coffee and love nuts (horrible name, great taste, strawberry pepper balsamic, salted caramel, and olive oil (controversial I know but it's soo smooth), Also this one of the few businesses open past 9pm in Pac Heights and I'm so here for it. read more

They are so generous with their "Make it a Double" days, where all you have to do is order a single scoop, say "make it a double", and receive two scoops for the price of one. I highly recommend following their social media accounts and/or subscribing to their emails to learn about pop-up deals like this. read more

Happy summer! Great location and efficient staff. Delicious ice cream and texture as usual 5/5 Berry Slab Pie: tasty with a very fruity flavor. Not too sweet and definitely creamy. 5/5 Honey Lavender: a classic and has floral and creamy balance. Went very well with the berry pie. Samples: Rhubarb Anise: light flavor mostly was vanilla ice cream and not sweet jam Gruyère Tomato: interesting and savory for sure. cheese flavor is present plus the pepper ice cream makes it taste a little spicy Thanks for the first day of summer BOGO scoop! A just walking by is delightful because of the waffle cone fragrance. So yummy. This time around I sampled a few and decided on the peanut chocolate brittle vegan scoop. He had his regular sea salt caramel ribbons on a cone. This is exceptional ice cream. read more
Had a lovely experience at the new location. It was clean and the server was friendly and allowed as many samples as needed to make a choice. The ice cream options for the season were all delicious and festive. We would definitely stop by this location again if in the area. read more

I been to the Burlingame location and it was good. In the area in SF and decided to try. So delicious. They have some new flavors, one being Turkey Stuffing & Cranberry Sauce. Will try next time. I stuck with coffee nut & a scoop of pumpkin. Parking is hard to find but once you do, the ice cream shop is located in the heart of the Fillmore on Fillmore St & Sacramento. Trendy divish atmosphere with quaint shops and restaurants. read more
On a Friday night, my friend and I stopped by this specific Salt & Straw after dinner. There were several people in line, which moved swiftly. Not too different from the setting of other Salt & Straws, there was limited seating indoor and outdoors. My friend and I got a double scoop, ordering the Chocolate Malted Potato Chip Cupcake and the Cookie Dough flavor. We were able to sample these flavors before buying our ice cream, and the potato chip flavor is a seasonal one. We both enjoyed both of the flavors, and I would say that their current seasonal flavors are a hit. I needed a sugar boost, so I thought this would be the perfect time to finally try the famous Salt & Straw. As expected, the place was packed, with a long line stretching out the door. The energy inside was lively, and the staff was friendly, offering samples like any good ice cream shop. I appreciate that you can taste the flavors before committing, but I wanted to put their basics to the test, so I went in blind and ordered the Double Folded Vanilla--a flavor they proudly advertise as using "twice as many vanilla beans in their extract to pack an incredible punch." Unfortunately, that "punch" never landed. From the first bite, I knew I had made a mistake. The ice cream had a strangely muted, almost bland taste, lacking the deep, rich vanilla flavor I was expecting. Instead of the warm, aromatic notes that great vanilla ice cream should have, it tasted more like a generic frozen dessert--something you'd get from a big-box grocery store under a store-brand label. It didn't have the complexity or depth of real vanilla bean ice cream, and after a few spoonfuls, I found myself just going through the motions, trying to finish it rather than enjoy it. Then, halfway through my scoop, something unexpected happened. I took a bite and suddenly tasted something delicious--a bright, sweet-tart strawberry flavor that was nothing like the bland vanilla I had been eating. Turns out, the scoop they used for my order must have still had some strawberry ice cream residue on it, and that tiny accidental taste was the best part of my entire experience. It was fresh, fruity, and full of flavor, making me instantly regret my choice even more. The only real saving grace of the visit was the freshly made waffle cone. It was perfectly crisp, lightly sweet, and had that delicate, golden-brown crunch that elevated the entire experience. It was easily one of the best waffle cones I've had--if only the ice cream inside had lived up to it. Next time, I'll definitely be ordering something else. The strawberry coconut flavor has my attention now, but one thing is certain: vanilla is just not their thing. read more

This was my first experience at Salt & Straw and it did not disappoint! Michael was very friendly and open to new suggestions that I should try. They had their limited edition Apple series line and I tried a couple flavors but I'm a chocolate chip mint gal. The apple series were delicious though! I originally wanted a second flavor and I picked cinnamon snickerdoodle but I tried the honey lavender and I went with that. It paired nicely with my freckled mint chocolate chip. i'm a huge fan of all salt and straws so this is a review for the great service at this specific location. the employees are always so patient with customers who want to try different flavors, and they're super efficient. perfect spot to get dessert after grabbing dinner in the area. there's minimal space to sit or stand inside but people come and go quickly. read more
Came here once during a girls trip to SF. Had never been here before but I'm glad I tried it. The ice cream is pretty good and they have a decent sized menu with some unique options. They also have dairy free options which was nice to see and they let us sample various flavors. It was super packed inside and unfortunately no where to really sit. We were able to get our order relatively quick and even though it was busy staff were still friendly. read more

This was my first time trying the iconic Salt & Straw. This location is in a very cute neighborhood with lots of restaurants and shops. I went on a Saturday night and the line was almost out the door. Their menu is super diverse with so many options to choose from. I love that they also have seasonal items and an almost gone menu. They even had a mac n cheese flavored ice cream and it was definitely as described. I ended up getting the cinnamon snickerdoodle and it was perfect! Super creamy and flavorful. My boyfriend got the limited edition apple pie vs pumpkin pie flavor, and it was actually very salty. We were expecting it to be sweet and fruity but we didn't really taste that. Overall, it was super cool to see what they have to offer and I'm very curious about their other flavors! read more

Si, I am not a vegan or lactose-intolerant. But the specialty ice creams are delicious. I really couldn't tell the difference.
