I LOVE ENVISION! I switched from my hometown optometrist to Dr. Blue at the suggestion of a friend and am so glad I did. Initially, the staff was incredible welcoming. Since then, they all remember my name and greet me when I walk in, and are just generally extremely friendly. Dr. Blue himself is also super fantastic. My old optometrist wouldn't even consider contacts for me, and Dr. Blue suggested them as a possibility for me and I was shocked. He was so willing to work with me on correct fittings, different brands, etc. When I finally got my glasses, they worked with me right then and there to get them perfectly fit for me and my wonky ears. Dr. Graham is awesome! ! Also, the nice lady that assists with ordering eye glasses is always very helpful with decision making. I have to say some of the girls behind the front desk are not very friendly. When I walk through the door it would be nice to see a smile (even if it's fake), let alone get a "hi, I'll be right with you" instead of letting me stand there a minute without being acknowledged because they are so caught up in whatever they're doing. I've been meaning to leave a review for years, but my recent visit was so wonderful I'm here! I've seen Dr. Blue for years and he is the sweetest doc I see! Personable, funny and kind. He always makes me feel comfortable and well taken care of. Ive also gotta give the gal that took be back for the eye testing props. She was a riot and had my cheeks sore from laughing so much! She was like game-show host meets comedian! Another sweetheart helped me pick my glasses and was very quick to pick up on my style, price point and helped me decide between a crap-ton of frames. Im only giving one star because I have to to write a review. This place is terriable. Ive had plenty of issues with them but this last time really shocked me. My daughter was due for an eye apt. So I called to schedule her one because she had been saying she was getting headaches and she also fell down the stairs and broke her foot. My daughter has really bad vision. They asked me what insurance we have (Medical). Then after telling her all this she says ok we can see her in a MONTH. Unbelievable. I understand that if this wasnt a child who is clearly getting hurt because of her needing a new perscription. They could have squeezed her in if they cared at all. Then I asked to please be put on the call list if anyone cancels. A month went by...no call. Then the other day I called and decided to make an appointment for her again and figured id have my other daughter seen at the same time (back to back) they said id have to wait a month again. They also saod thats how it goes with Medical. Patients. No sorry ive always been able to be seen and we are treated very well at any doc office. This place is garbage and I will NEVER go there again. We're local and none of my family will ever give this place business again. Learn how to treat people. read more

Poor scheduling: Every time I've gone in for an appt (5 times), the wait was ridiculously long, 30-45 minutes. Once is an anomaly, but several times a horrible pattern. Makes you feel like they do not value your time. Financial integrity questionable: They charge THREE TIMES the amount for the SAME contacts that are at Costco. So for one year's supply, i would be charged $150 at costco vs. $400 at Envision!! How does that even make any sense? High Employee turnaround: In the past two years, I've seen the front desk person change twice and the tech person change twice. High turnaround means bad wirk environment. I went to this place because of a recommendation from my ex boss about a year ago. I walked in and luckily no one had appointments that day so I had the exam right away. The exam took about 30 to an hour because of their amazing thorough process. I spoke with Dr. Blue and he took care of my eyes really well. He asked me many questions about my everyday life so he can find the best contacts lenses for my eyes. I've had contacts for almost 6 years and Envision Optometry is the best place to get what you need for your eyes in San Luis Obispo. I recently was enrolled with some excellent insurance packages at my job and wanted to take advantage of the benefits. I booked an appointment with Envision to get my eyes checked as I work with computers all day. I requested Dr. Blue as my co-worker suggested him and was happy with him as well. As a first time experience I think it was quite pleasant. The staff was very friendly, helpful and organized and their lobby was very comfortable. Dr. Blue is a delight to visit as he always has a smile and fun, friendly conversation for you. I just got my new reading glasses today and I love them! My iPhone and computer screens have never looked so clear and crisp. It's like having new devices. Plus they look great and feel great too! Thanks Envision! PS. My co-worker injured her eyes while camping (too much campfire) and was in a fair amount of discomfort and pain. My insurance with the California Community Colleges is ok, but my vision insurance is Eye Med which limits the optometrists I can go to. I had tried 2 in the town that I work in and wasn't very happy with either. I decided to check closer to where I live, and found Envision Optometry on my list. Easily made an appointment for my next weekday off, and wanted to report to Yelp on what a pleasant experience it was. First off they are on the corner of Marsh and Broad and have a Parking Lot! Truely an unexpected perk in SLO. The front office staff was welcoming and knowledgeable, and the tech got me started on the testing equipment before I'd even completed the paper work. I got all the tests done because I am getting to the age of macular degeneration and glaucoma. They advised me of additional costs before performing the tests. Dr. Chang performed my eye exam, and he is the nicest doctor I have met in many years. He took the time to explain what he was doing, and went over the pictures of my retinas which was absolutely fascinating! I've been to many optometrists on the central coast over the last 18 years and my experience at Envision Optometry was by far the best, friendly check-in, very short wait. I enjoyed Dr. Chang's efficiency and sense of humor. They had a great selection of frames and offered assistance in fitting the right ones for me. I went to Envision Optometry b/c it was closest to my house and took my insurance. I was fit in fairly quickly and the initial experience with Dr. Graham was pleasant. However, the front office staff is horrendous. They performed a contact lens exam "as part of my exam" without explaining it wouldn't be covered by my insurance and then charging me for it without an explanation. I had to do the research to see what exactly they were billing me for. Then, they billed my insurance for contact lenses that I never received. When I called to ask them why they would charge my insurance for something I didn't receive, they said they assumed I would come in for the contacts once my other ones had run out. It seems like an insurance scheme to me and I will not be going back. Hopefully there is another eye doctor in town who is more honest and straight forward. If you do decide to go there, make sure to ask questions and be very knowledgeable about your insurance benefits. This office is looking to rip off patients in any way possible. Beware! read more

It's really unfortunate that they employ such unprofessional and obnoxious receptionists at this office. I've met blocks of wood with more warmth. My initial appointment with Dr. Blue was pleasant (he's a hugger - be forewarned if you are put off by sudden unexpected physical contact from strangers), but I've now decided to take my business elsewhere after a very unpleasant experience with the receptionist this morning. I was trying to make an emergency appointment because of a foreign object lodged in my only pair of contacts. The receptionist didn't bother to veil the irritation in her voice when she answered the phone (I'm willing to let that sort of thing slide...after all, we all have bad days once in a while), but she then proceeded to cut me off mid-word as I was briefly explaining the reason for my call. After telling her my name, I was met with such a long uncomfortable silence that I was sure that the call had been disconnected. I hesitantly said "hello?" to see if the line was in fact dead, only to be answered with a rude "I'm looking up your file" retort. I apologized, stating that I thought the call had been disconnected, and again was met with silence. After being told that they would not be able to fit me in until next week, even though I explained that I simply need a sample contact to get me through until they can get me in for a full appointment, I decided that I would rather go through the hassle of finding a new eye doctor (one with half-way decent receptionists) than to have another unpleasant experience at Envision Optometry. read more

This office has the nicest receptionist and associates... which is a great first impression. I had crossed paths with Dr. Graham before where I used to work and I thought he was the nicest guy and so I immediately thought of him when I needed to find an eye doctor. He is so great, patient (and sometimes with me... you kinda need to have it)... lol.... but he has been great since being a patient, and Karen who works in the office went above and beyond when I wanted hard to find Rayban frames... even after they sent the wrong ones. This is a fantastic office and everyone is so genuinely nice and they have the most detailed exams of any optometrist offices in this area and ones I have seen my family go through. No matter where I live in California.... this is my office and dr. of choice. It is true.... some people will pay for the customer service experience... even if it costs more... and I am willing to drive to ends of the earth for a continued experience here. read more

It's been a very long time since I've been to an eye doctor. I've always been terrified to see an optometrist because I never wanted glasses or anything to be wrong with my eye sight. Upon my arrival I was put at ease by the lovely office and kind staff. Dr. Chang is very easy to talk with and puts you at ease. It turns out that I indeed needed glasses :/ I chose a lovely pair of glasses and got them around 3 days later. Quick huh! Then I decided I needed to try contacts because glasses got in my way at my job. Dr. Chang did beautifully at handling my disappointment with my first pair of contacts he gave me. He said I got a botched pair of contacts and assured me that the new pair would be better. I trusted him and yes they were better but not perfect. He is doing his utmost to get me to my perfect pair of contacts! Being hesitant to see an optometrist Dr.Chang has helped me over come my fear and my sight clear. This review is long overdue. I had put off getting an eye exam for quite some time but figured it was time for a new prescription. Dr Chang has a very easy going and approachable demeanor that made the whole exam pretty effortless. He nailed the new prescription and helped clear up a minor dry eye issue I had been experiencing. I always enjoy coming here. It is central, there is good parking, and the interior is clean and appealing. Dr. Chang is a pleasant experience every time: personable and knowledgeable. I have not had very much interaction with the front staff except ordering contacts, which has been painless and timely. Our whole family loves Envision Optometry, we have been going there for over five years now! Drs Graham and Blue are amazing, though Dr. Graham recently retired. He is replaced by Dr. Chang, who is fantastic as well! The office is large, modern, classy and clean. The staff are helpful, though some of them can be a little cold at times. But mostly they are very nice and competent! They have a ton of glasses to choose from, in lots of different price ranges and have great lens upgrades available. They are a little more expensive than, say, Costco Optical, but the quality of service is worth it in my opinion! I will continue to go here for as long as possible :) read more

This business worked together with another company in San Luis Obispo. I was in a bad situation.... being Friday and having a broken corner on the end of one temple of my glasses. I was referred to Bryce by a lady who worked at another store, and this became all about helping a customer who needed a difficult temporary repair. This business actually gave me a part to use until Monday when my new frame would arrive! customer service and care is alive and well! on Monday, I returned the borrowed part, paid a small service fee, and returned the pert which may help another customer. Great experience--helpful staff, knowledgeable doctor, nice atmosphere. Scheduling an appointment, because of my personal schedule, can be a bit challenging but I was quite happy with the help I received from the front desk. The optometrist then reviewed my medical history and helped me understand glaucoma and macular degeneration--both conditions that have affected close family members of mine. I had a thorough exam and got to see the pictures of my eyes and what Dr. Chang will be monitoring in the years to come. And my glasses will be made on site by Envision staff--I feel like my vision is in good hands! I tried Envision Optometry sometime last year and was very impressed with Dr. Blue. For this reason I brought my daughter to their office and she was also very happy with Dr. Chang. I convinced my husband to have his glasses made so I accompanied him to the office just this Monday, April 17, 2017. We were assisted by Ally and she quoted as $371 for the price of the lens only as we are using our old frame. We paid $186 and was told to pay the difference upon pick up. The breakdown of this cost was not clear so I decided to call our insurance, VSP to get clarification. VSP gave me a detailed line by line pricing and explained to me how the cost is determined. They told me that I am supposed to be charged a total of $356.20. They advised me to call Envision and compare the line by line the costing. I called Envision on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 and requested to talk to Ally so I can discuss with her the breakdown. Everything matches except the cost of progressive lens which VSP priced at $135.20 while Envision charged $150, which is where the difference lies. She placed me on hold as she said she needed to talk to the insurance coordinator/manager. Ally did not pursue the call and instead I found myself talking to Donna, the office manager. She started by saying that she will not agree to the $135.20 cost and will stick to the $150. She proceeded to tell me that the frame is still in the office and that she will cancel the order and credit me back as I am not happy with the order. The purpose of the call was to get clarification of the pricing and we have never intended to cancel the order. I had past experience of being erroneously billed and I promise to be more proactive moving forward by doing my research with the insurance company. I was taken aback by the way Donna, ironically their office manager handled this situation. Instead of understanding and working with the patient, her outright fix is to cancel the order. This seem very inappropriate considering the fact that the difference we are talking about is only $14+, but she is willing to forego of a $371 sale for no justified reason at all. I was very calm when I was inquiring from Ally but Donna's decision to cancel without even trying to address the inquiry in a reasonable manner was very upsetting and frustrating. At any rate the last conversation we had was to me agreeing to what she said as far as pricing and told her to not cancel the order as she did confirm from VSP that I was informed wrongly. Not a big deal, an additional $14 would not be a problem. I was very surprised that she called and left me a message again today April 19, 2017 and told me that she cancelled the order, and that she will credit back the $186, and that I can pick up the frame. On her message she also said that it is in both parties' interest to not pursue the order. When I called Ally answered and I asked why my order was cancelled and I told her that I had already agreed to the price in talking to Donna yesterday. She said she needed to find out as she has no answer for this.She placed me on hold so I had to call back and this time another front office staff answered, so I asked to talk to Ally. She informed me that she already know what the issue was and that she was instructed to tell me that the order was cancelled and that I need to pick up my frame. I kept insisting that I don't want the order cancelled and I told her I want to speak to Dr. Blue about the situation. She informed me that Dr. Blue is fully aware of the situation and that he was also the one who suggested to cancel the order. If that is the case I am pretty sure they that he was only aware of Donna's side of the story. I also ordered a half month supply of contact lenses for my daughter and ask will they all be cancelling this? They said they can cancel that as well if I want to. This is a very unlikely response for a business that caters to customer service. I know that any business has the right to refuse service but I can't believe that for the main reason of me clarifying and questioning a charge I would be refused the service. And also felt bad that I went out of my way to build a business relationship by convincing my family to go to this office, and was unfortunate to experience this. Donna was very unprofessional and has very poor customer service and does not warrant to be given the responsibility of representing management for decisions that are inappropriate. I feel sorry for the doctors and the other staff that are affected by this bad experience. I reported to the BBB and this is documented on their records as basis for evaluation of the business. This unfortunate experience will definitely be pass along to peers and networking contact so they won't experience what I had been thru. read more
