I was visiting San Luis Obispo and the screw for my frames fell out. I stopped by Michael's and they were gracious enough to spend the time finding the exact replacement needed to fix my glasses. Christmas 2024. My son, daughter-in-law and infant grandson came visit from out of town. On the night of their arrival, she discovered that she had forgotten to pack her contact lens kit. Without the lens, she could not see. This became a crisis and threatened to ruin the visit completely. The next day was a rainy Christmas Eve. Many optical outlets were closed for the holidays. Desperate, we went to the few that opened (but would close early), in hope of obtaining emergency contact lens that would fit her prescription. Our hope dimmed after several unsuccessful attempts. Fortunately, Michael's Optics in San Luis Obispo was open, and welcoming. Even though they did not have the lens on hand, the staff went out of their way to call nearby optics outlets to inquire on our behalf. It was not looking good. But, incredibly, an outlet that they called actually responded with a 'yes', and we were able to promply pick up the much needed lens, with the correct prescription. This was*indeed a Christmas miracle. I can't thank enough the staff at Michael's Optical San Luis Obispo. They gave us valuable assistance even though they were only hours from closing for Christmas. They made no revenue from us, but they certainly saved Christmas for us. This review is written as a heart-felt thank you to the wonderful staff on duty that day. Michaels staff is wonderful. I have been with them for 7 years. They are always helpful if you have any issues with your glasses. Today I took my daughters glasses in because a screw fell out. They fixed me up in a jiffy. The screw was a bit long si they cut it to fit. I'm not sure my wife understood when I informed her the ladies down at michaels gave me a needed screw and we cut it off when all parties were satisfied. I may not be allowed back unchaperoned. :-( read more

What an excellent staff. I am blind without my glasses. I would not be able to recognize a face two feet away without them. With that said, I'm also a college student that cannot afford $400+ (after insurance) for quality brands that I've come to love like my Ray-Bans that I've had for four years and sadly shattered a few weeks ago. I ordered a pair of Warby Parker's last week and although affordable, squeezed my head to high heavens. I called Urban Optics and a variety of other shops hoping to get my frames adjusted and they all wanted a $15+ service charge through a scripted policy statement in their phone calls. I later called Michael's Optical and was warmly greeted and offered a frame adjustment for the cost of nothing more than a smile and a handshake. I arrived within half an hour and Steve was ever so helpful. We had light conversation as he adjusted my frames and left my face beaming in happiness and relieved of pain. I will definitely be returning here for my next pair of quality glasses because of the kind staff. 5/5 read more

Amazing customer service. Back in June I visited a different local optical shop for an eye exam and new glasses (insurance reasons). The short story is that the other shop make progressive lenses for an existing pair of frames. When the new lenses did not focus properly, the OTHER shop gave me attitude, refused to help and asked me to find a shop that could work with my Mykita frames. Fortunately, I went to Michael's Optical. Both the optician and the optometrist went out of their way to help me. They worked with the glasses and were able to adjust the fit and position to give me good vision. So let's get this right, I AM NOT EVEN ONE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AND THEY WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO HELP ME.. truly amazing.. get that again, they went out of their way to help someone who was not their customer. But guess what?? I am their customer now. They truly know customer service and go well above and beyond. THANK YOU!!! I was in SLO for the weekend with my family. Stopped in to repair my prescription sunglasses, losing a screw. The gal at the front desk was very nice immediately taking my glasses to replace the missing screw. While fixing my glasses she noticed that I was missing one of my "socks" on the glasses. After replacing the screw, she checked to see if she had a match to replace the sock. She was unable to find a match but a gentleman came from the back to help and found a pair that fit. He installed the new pair and adjusted the glasses to fit properly. They did all of this free of charge. I was very thankful and would refer them to anyone in the area. read more

I was in urgent need to fix my glasses because I sat on them. Not my proudest moment! I walked into Michael's Optical and received the best customer service with the biggest smiles. They approached me and asked what I needed and I asked if it was possible to get a repair. They began to work on it right away and fixed it and cleaned my lenses within no time. I got my glasses at Michaels bout 6 months ago with very lightweight lenses and frames. Unlike the big box stores, Michael's was one of the only places that could work with my current frames and provide the light weight lenses I wanted. Recently, I bent the frame, took them into the store, and I was fixed up in about 5 minutes at no cost. They had the tools and expertise to make the Silhouette frames like new. Ordered a very nice pair of glasses there. At the moment they told me I'd receive my glasses within a week. Nope! Not only I did not get my glasses that week nor did they inform me about the delay. I called 2 weeks after, a staff told me they should arrive in 2 days. Nope! And they didn't call me again about the false information they gave me. Finally the glasses arrived 3 weeks later. They apologized and told me there was a miscommunication in the whole process. They were being nice about it and gave me some little gifts. I mean I like the glasses. While on vacation my glasses broke into pieces. I walked into Michael's in hopes they could put them back together. Unfortunately that was not the case. But thanks to Joyce and Chelsea I walked out able to see! They went to work to find an old frame that would hold my lenses long enough for me to get home and get new glasses and they did just that! I highly recommend Michael's Optical. They were more than helpful & patient when I was picking out my frames. A few months after I purchased my glasses they were having difficulty with my insurance going through. When they called, they reassured me that they were taking care of it but had just wanted to make me aware of the situation in case I had gotten anything in the mail from my insurance regarding it. I was so surprised. Most experiences I've had like that usually send me on a wild goose chase to fix it myself. Bought a Prada frame which after several attempts to install lens are still not fitting right. At the time I brought the Prada frames I had them change the tint on my Armani Sunglass flames... THEY BROKE THEM!.. and replaced the ear pieces with a generic ilfitting part.... I asked for them to replace the frames or at the least replace them at cost!... They refused.... I popped into Michael's Optical looking for my first pair of glasses. I wasn't looking for a fancy designer pair, just something cheap that I won't have to worry about. I wasn't expecting to buy there, but they informed me that they have a promo for a few of their cheaper lines of frames. My glasses ended up being cheaper than they would have been at Costco and I have returned several times since to tweak the fit. They are happy to see me every time and eager to help. from the very first call to michael's i was impressed. the process began mid last month. everyone is so helpful and patient. what a wonderful experience. i asked andrea scads of questions regarding their covid health measures which were my first priority. next up was getting a possible eye appt before the end of the year, and while that was not possible through them, she suggested primary eye care. andrea and i chatted about my budget and various prescriptions i would need- yes plural- ching ching. insurance would cover one pair of basic. (this may all sound odd but it will come full circle and make sense in the end.) the staff at primary eye care (pec) was amazing. i got in on the 14th of dec. got my 3 prescriptions (i dislike tri-focals and such) and chose my one pair of reading glasses while at pec to be done through insurance. now for the other two. to explore options i went to 2 different on-line sites. a 3 hour gilligan's island trip from hell. (no coconut pies from maryanne, etc.) both sites had difficulty accepting my prescription numbers and kept asking me if i was sure. one site came up with NO frames that would suit all the specs i put in. the next came up with a few that were in no way anything that would remotely look good on me EVER. bounced my numbers again- are you sure... and the estimates were still quite high even if i could have gotten anything to work. sigh. i had done my homework and i was drained. it was 15 minutes until 5 this past tuesday. i called and asked for andrea. she was in. remembered me and said- what's going on sydney. i briefly told her what had happened. she was so wonderful. she "brought it on down with me", we discussed why those places are not always well-suited (so true) and gave me her schedule for the next few days. i went down this afternoon with all my info, was again greeted with cheer and loveliness by everyone working and waited briefly for andrea to finish with her current client. she was so through and patient in regard to making sure we went over my overall plan as well as what i could do within my budget and how to get me what i needed. My experience with Michael's Optical was fantastic! I am VERY picky when choosing glasses because I tend to keep them a long time. I had to get glasses unexpectedly as my glasses broke. Well, first, the very skilled gentleman at the Paso Robles location worked magic on my broken glasses to get me through until my new glasses were ready. Second, I had chosen glasses from all three locations and the SLO and Atascadero locations very nicely sent them to the location that was convenient for my husband to help me decide because he works late. Then, third, I was able to pick up both new glasses that I love and had a great experience with the fitting with Pat in SLO. She was so patient and gave me good advice! I went into the San Luis Obispo store today with my husband. He was looking for new frames. We were approached by the owner's brother, Steve Nutt. At first he said something about it was good that we were shopping together because I could cast a critical eye on my husband's frame choices. Ok - I get it - we share our opinions with each other. Then came a moment that shocked us both completely. Nutt said something about we came in together, so he assumed we were together - that I wasn't someone my husband paid for. Yes -- that socially inept, crude horse's ass said that. For the record, Nutt, we've been together for over twenty years. I'm not a hooker. I was dressed in jeans, flat sandals and a tailored, collared shirt -- with simple jewelry. Nothing about how I dressed should have made you think I was a prostitute, you crude simpleton. Perhaps it's time your brother stopped letting you ride his coat tails --- stay behind the scenes and don't deal with the public --- you're hurting his business (and so will us telling this story to friends, family, colleagues and other community members). Steve Nutt from Michael's Optical. It's a name we will not soon forget. ..................... Here was the companies response and my reply back. It will give a clear picture about how Michael's Optical treats customers. "Michael's Optical strives for excellent customer service, I am sorry that we have fallen short of that goal. Just want to thank Steve at Michael's Optical in San Luis Obispo. Somehow the internal workings of the temple spring on my prescription reading glasses broke, and the spring could not be repaired. So what does Steve do? Only found a temple that would fit and made it work, then didn't even charge me. Now, that's a way to win new business from a new guy in town. Why would I go anywhere else? And everyone in my family wears glasses and/or contact lenses. Don't need to look any further for an optical shop. Steve's also more than a great optician; he's a stand-up guy who I enjoyed sharing a conversation with. And Joyce is pretty nice, too! read more

I spent over 350.00 on a pair glasses for my wife, I later found I could get the same Chinese made frames on the internet for 1/10th of the price. But that is my fault. The glasses I bought had a magnetic snap-on sunglass attachment. this attachment lost a lens screw after about 2 weeks. I came back and asked if they could replace the screw. I was told by the man behind the big desk that I would have to pay a shipping charge for USPS Priority Mail for them to send for a tiny screw. I honestly could not believe this. I thought about it for a second then I was so angry I left.. These people in my opinion are the slowest sloth-like salespeople. They move and talk so slow, it takes them so long to do a simple task -it really was strange to me. They have the gall to charge me for a tiny screw and the shipping charge for it. after buying such overpriced glasses. I will never go back. read more
