This is my first time here so it's going to be long winded. With that being said, I definitely like the location. It's right by the HEB and is only 5 minutes from my apartment. When I walked in I was a little confused at first because I immediately saw spa chairs and people working on customers. I was pointed in the right direction as their check in/out desk is in the middle of the salon because they have 2 entrances on opposite ends. Both ends had pedicure spa chairs, plenty of them, and in the center was the desk, waiting area, and manicure stations. It was clean and had pleasant decor. Layout wise I think it could use some adjusting. It's nice to have a lot of spa chairs, but the manicure area was limited which brings me to why I took away a star. I was told to sign in and I did. There was only one other person in front of me, and she was getting a pedicure. I was asked what I needed, and for the first time ever I was going to try a shellac manicure. I typically get a set because when my nails get to the length I want, 1 or more always break and I have to wait for them to grow back out. I was told 10 minutes. Cool. So I sat and waited. The lady before me gets up and is escorted to her chair. Another woman comes in, she speaks with a tech and needs for one of her nails to be fixed. She sits next to me, and I continue to wait. At least 20 minutes have gone by at this point. I stayed patient because again, their manicure area is limited compared to what they have for pedicures. Then finally a lady comes to grab me except she's trying to escort me to get a pedicure. I tell her that I wanted a manicure. She politely apologizes and was very nice about it, but it was about to be almost 45 minutes since I got in (I got there a few minutes before 6, and they close at 7). When I go back to sit down, I notice that the lady who needed to get a nail fixed had been taken. I get that what she needed may not take long, but if I sign in and arrive before you, it should be first come first serve, or at least the tech could have asked me if I was ok with her going before me. My tech finally comes over. I was looking down at my phone and she slowly walked up to me waiting for me to notice her instead of just saying something. Broken English isn't hard for me, I grew up with a Thai grandmother and I've learned that sometimes things come off harsh or rude when dealing with other Asian cultures who speak broken English. But since I was already a little annoyed, the tech asking me what I wanted just rubbed me wrong. I felt like, I wrote down what I wanted when I "checked in" which from what I could see not too many people actually looked at the list. I saw that she did, so I didn't understand why she had asked. I told her I wanted the shellac manicure. She asked me what color. I didn't know or took the time to look because most people that I saw getting gel/shellac picked when they were seated so I asked if I could do that while I was seated. I could sense a little annoyance, but I was just as irritated. I didn't tell her that it was my first time either. So I sat down with the choices, I pick out my color and wait. After waiting just to be seen, I could say I sat there for what felt like another 15 minutes but it wasn't. Maybe 5-6. She came back to ask what color, she grabbed it, and we got started. I did have a snag on one of my nails that I was hoping she could save when she asked me about cutting them. She said she could so I told her no cutting just to file. I should have asked her to make them even in length, but that was on me. The file job was all right, but she never asked me a shape. Most of my nails are naturally square so she did a rounded square shape. When she was done, she never asked if I liked it or if I wanted her to do more. Cuticle work was excellent, and as I watched her, she kept checking everything she did which I liked. Even if she moved on if she noticed something she would go back until it was right. She never fixed the snagged nail, but with the layers that had to be done for the shellac, I don't think I'll have to worry too much about that nail breaking I'll just have to be cautious. She always directed me when I needed to stick my hand under the light. She wasn't chatty at all which is ok, but it's a bonus when someone engages with you. As expected she did speak with other techs in her native language. The paint job was perfect. She regularly checked it and made sure there was no polish on my cuticles or anything. When my right hand was done, she then asked me if I liked it. Which I genuinely did, and I can't lie I had this goofy grin on my face. She did a short massage which she wasn't consistent with. Really I got a massage on my left hand and just lotion on my right so I do wish that she would have done the same to both. Overall I would come back. Like other reviewers state, the wait times aren't accurate so I might call ahead next time. I tipped well because she really did do a great job. read more
