I went back to the Phoenix nail salon on January 9th and said I had my nails done a week ago and 4 nails broke! I girl said she would fix. After repairing the 4 nails and re gel polishing them she charged me 15$!!! I thought that was ridiculous! I explained that they had only been done maybe a week ago and not just 1 broke but 4 did!! They called the owner of Phoenix nails and she said to me that because it was a week Ago that she couldn't do anything! I said if I was made to pay the 15$ that I wouldn't be back, she said that was fine. She didn't even care. I have been going there since they opened the original Evanston nails and loved the work that was done on my nails, until the new owners took over. I have not been pleased, but hoped that things would get better.... Well I was wrong. After I had those 4 nails repaired I had 2 more break.... I strongly urge people not to go here at all there is no responsibility when they do a bad job, all they care about is your money. Ps I will keep posting...

‼DO NOT GO HERE‼ My…read morefriend and I went here to get our nails done and it was horrible. At first the ladies working on us were nice and we had no problem with them, but when they started we began to question a lot, they put WAY too much glue on our nails and after sticking the extensions on they proceeded to glue the bottom of our natural nails down too which we have never seen before. In these photos you can see that after the nails were removed the natural nail was almost completely torn off because of the amount of glue used. In the photo with the red fingers that is pure FLESH! There is no nail as it was taken off because of the acrylics. On top of this they charge way too much for such an amateur job. I've been to many other nail places before and never have I seen my nails so damaged and so week after a removal process. Please save your money and the damage of your nails and find somewhere where this will not happen to you.

I noticed the other nail techs hovered around her, observing what she was doing. First she clipped my nails without removing the old shellac. Then I had to tell her how to apply the various layers, missed here and there. She started filing down the shellac every so often and applying base coat. After doing this several times over and over, I finally said, it's been over an hour, I have to go. She held onto my hand so tightly I couldn't get my hand out of her grasp. The other customers were all staring at us and the other employees were talking in their language to her. The end result was a sandy-feeling toping and missed areas of paint. It was atrocious. She whispered to me to come back tomorrow to fix it. Would you go back to someone who gives you a bad haircut? I called the next day to complain and the employee I spoke to supported the woman who did an awful job insisting she knew what she was doing and that I was wrong. That was it for me. They just lost 2 customers that used to love going there.

I risked it for a walk in appointment on a weekday around 3pm and it wasn't super busy. There were about 3 other clients there, 2 of whom just wrapped up. They seem to have a few technicians on site though as I didn't have to wait and a tech came out of the back to do my nails. I only did a shellac removal and polish change so I can't comment on a full manicure. It was alright, they used the electric file set to file off the polish which is not my favourite but it was super gentle in comparison to some other places I've been. My few complaints are that instead of wrapping each finger with a cotton pad soaked in acetone and wrapping it in foil, they just make you soak your fingers in a bowl of acetone. This is SO weird and feels so bad for my fingers... the other complaint is that I didn't notice them taking their tools out of newly packaged kits. This might be different since I was just doing a polish change? But could be off putting for those who are more picky about cleanliness. They have an okay selection of polish colours but I found most of them were sparkly/special ones. It was hard to find a good selection of nudes/pinks/neutrals or also plain, non-sparkle dark colours. I had already preshaped my own nails so I didn't expect them to do much in terms of filing snd shaping my nails. Polish application was smooth, no bubbles or missed spots, and they capped the nails well on each layer which some places skip out on. I liked that they have their lamps built into the table - so smart and convenient! I noticed the comment below about the techs talking to each other a lot - this is definitely true but I don't mind. They're not amazing at service (ie. at the end while waiting for the nails to dry, they sort of just leave you at the table and go sit around at the back) but what can I expect for the price I paid! Overall, I paid $21 before tip for a shellac polish removal and polish change. I'll try and update this later to note how long the manicure lasts!

There were 2 ocassions where I they pushed/cleaned my cuticle was too much and it started bleeding. It wasn't too bad and person working on my nails sincerely apologized - so I'm totally fine with it. And to be honest my skin and nails are kind of fragile and thin so I can see it happening if you go too far with the cuticle push/clipping(sorry for the wrong nail jargon as my knowledge with nail stuff is quite limited). I give them 5 stars because I really enjoy going there to get my nails done. Mint's location is far from where I live ( the SE), but I will take time out of my day to drive there because their service is superb. In addition to their awesome service the atmosphere in mint is modern, clean, and friendly. So I definitely recommend Mint for a relaxing nail spa day! :)

Its funny that my TRUTHFUL review has caused such a back lash from these new posts when no one had…read moreever mentioned this place before. I guess by that rationale, my 100 other reviews must be bogus too!!! Wow. I feel that I have to defend my review and articulate it in a manner that will be clear that I am NOT out to ruin their business, only to state the facts of what happened to ME. I am very happy to hear that they are doing a better job at providing people with a better level of service than I received, but it does not change my opinion. Sorry. When I initially went in, Shenny quoted me a price and how many treatments I would require during our meet and greet. I was told I would be done my armpits in about 4 sessions and I would probably require another touch up in the interim. I was told to come in at 4-6 week intervals, which I did and that she would monitor my progress. I don't know how someone can monitor progress when they don't do all the treatments, on 2 of the 4 occasions, Nina did my treatments, again fairly quickly. Also, no test patch was ever done to determine the level of heat my skin can tolerate, these levels are known as Joules. I had mentioned my concern to Shenny about the fact that there was minimal hair reduction on my armpits even though she considered me to be an excellent candidate, fair skin with dark hair. After this exchange, was when she told me to start waxing (see my previous post) and that I will require an additional 3-4 sessions to complete the laser treatments which would have cost me, at that time another $300-400. She also suggested that I do a couple of sessions for my upper lip, since her prices were so "reasonable" I declined, somewhat offended as I am not man hairy, I felt it was not appropriate considering her new treatment strategy. Jenny D's filtered review is accurate, but perhaps she is a liar too?! I also was interrogated about other spa's I went to and how much I paid there. They pushed these "Matis" products on me which were insanely expensive but I refused. Also, if you are a visible minority, you don't get any special treatment, this is from my personal experience and in the few times I attended, I noticed she was extra sweet to her caucasian clientele. My friends, some of whom are Arab and East Indian also bailed on her for the same reasons. East Indians have a very tight nit community and what goes around comes around. Shenny and Nina are nice ladies, I agree! I question their ethics and knowledge of the laser industry. Laser hair removal certification is NOT REGULATED by the province of Alberta, in fact most aestheticians are NOT certified and still work in salons, spas and medi-clinics. Almost anyone can attend seminars and receive certificates as long as they pay! Just some food for thought next time you want to have laser hair removal. Many lower end/used/refurbished machines are available on-line and are often purchased or leased by under qualified technicians who want to make fast, easy money, they take a weekend course that teaches them the basics and they set up shop at a salon who will rent them space or perhaps in their basement. This is why you find so many groupon, dealfind, or teambuy coupons on line for these types of establishments! I hope this puts into perspective what I paid for and what I received. I believe that if these other posts are having good results, than great, carry on going there and tell the world, scream it out from the roof tops! But, there is a but, a BIG ONE...I find it hard to believe that the average customer knows for a fact that "Shenny and Neena always use the strongest disinfectant after each client, making sure that there are no transfer of germs or viruses through the use of equipment and supplies." I'm just saying, thats just something the average client doesn't know. Really, you only need one part bleach to 9 parts water to kill bacteria so I can't truthfully say I would know what the strongest disinfectant would do any differently? Perhaps if I was a nurse I would know this? Seriously.
