The almond horn and espresso tarts are old favorites. My husband was excited to try the sausage rolls and has enjoyed them. The ambiance is cozy and classy. The large windows allow for a great deal of natural light. There is ample seating inside as well as a couple of tables outside when the weather permits. If you get your food to go, they have offered to heat the necessary food or given instructions on heating if needed for a later time. The owners are extremely friendly and kind.

That is a good and a bad thing. It's good for their bottom line and a bad thing for my waistline and weight. At least when I walk there, I am burning some of the calories I will consume. During the week, I enjoy stopping by and grabbing a pastry or two. It's hard to only buy one, when they have so many to choose from. I then continue on my way and enjoy a Blueberry Scone or Raspberry Lemon Cannoli at my leisure later in the day. When it's the weekend, that is when I dine in and enjoy the full experience of LuciAnna's. I either take a patio table which is pet friendly, or a relaxing table inside the charming dining room. I order at the counter and get my table marker, so they know where I am seated. It brunch time, so that also means it is Bloody Mary time. I always have mine with a cup of black coffee chaser. The two balance each other out. My two favorite entrees are; Waffles or anyone of their Benedicts. Seriously, you cannot go wrong with either of them. Plus, you gotta get an order of the, Million Dollar Bacon. Service is always top notch and attentive. You'll enjoy the tea room atmosphere.

That mission is being fulfilled here in Alton. There's nothing fancy about Good News, it's a simple process. You order at a counter, get a buzzer and go find yourself a table. There's seating in the Post Commons side of the building, outside picnic tables, or sit at the counter and watch them make your pizza in the wood-burning oven. I've opted and done all three and they're all satisfying. The patio is dog friendly, so bring your fur-baby with you. My recent visit, I enjoyed the special pizza. It was a Cheeseburger with, Read Sauce, Mozzarella, Cheddar, Beef, Bacon, Onion and Topped with Pickles. The associate asked if I would like to hold the pickles off and I said, yes. I have nothing against pickles, I just thought it would be better without them. Once my pizza was done and brought to me, (they were slow and didn't give me a buzzer) it was delicious. The blending of hamburger, bacon and onion made it taste like a true cheeseburger. I like how the crust around the edges gets a little charred, for me it adds flavor. Also, I don't always eat all the edging crust, I take it home and use it as a dog treat. My dogs give Good News crust, two paws up. Good News has Growlers and Gift Cards available, so I know what several of my cousins will be getting for their birthday. We may even, Gather, Eat and Drink at Good News to celebrate their aging. Staff is cool, they make eating pizza and drinking craft beer a fun and rewarding experience.

The other day I meet up with some of my cousins for Happy Hour. I cannot go wrong with one of the HH pizzas. Three of the six cousins, ordered pizza with different toppings. I went with the HH Taco's. I enjoyed Two Shrimp Taco's for only $7. The HH pizzas are $10. Three cousins went with the regular menu and enjoyed salads, chicken wings and chicken strips/tenders. Everyone was pleased with their food. The only thing keeping B&H from getting 5 Stars is the service. It's never consistent. One time it's over the top and the next time it's the bare minimum. It really depends on who you get as a server. The seasoned ones who have been for a long time, know how to work a table. The newer and younger ones, just don't get it. They don't hustle and as their station fills up, they get overwhelmed and everything goes downhill. When: January 7, 2026 Why: Happy Hour with the cousins

So when I go, I know my experience will be top notch. It was Taco Tuesday and I was actually craving a taco. Normally when dining at Riviera and wanting tacos, I order their shrimp. This Tuesday, I changed things up and ordered, shredded chicken. It was simply made in a soft tortilla shell with only shredded lettuce and cheese. The chicken was tender, juicy and seasoned well. I topped the tacos with some of the salsa that was served with the complimentary chips. They really hit the spot on this Taco Tuesday. The tacos are served 3 to an order with a side of Mexican Rice. I added a side of Refried Beans to my order. I don't eat my beans and rice separately, I mix the two together creating a totally different texture and taste. I even mix in some salsa to give it an extra kick. I learned the trick of mixing the two from another diner at another Mexican restaurant. I saw her doing it and once I tried it myself, I've never stopped. You can't have tacos without a Margarita and the Top Shelf Mags here are very refreshing. I don't do salt on my rim, but you can if you want. Their glasses are thick glassed, so they are heavy. Lifting them is like a gym workout, so you're burning calories as you're drinking them. Service is always friendly and attentive. Even as a lone diner, they always check back with me to make sure everything is okay.
